Cantata Sunday was rapidly approaching. Hannu was known to spring extra practices on the choir and heaven help anyone who didn’t show up. The card being circulated was intended for Eleanor Heimlich who was stricken with laryngitis. According to Azinnia, Eleanor was under doctor’s orders to restrict talking and no singing for at least two weeks. The consequence was obvious: plan B would be implemented, and I was on the hook. We all signed the card with the usual get-well-soon platitudes and an occasional smiley face, which was open to interpretation.
