[CHAPTER 2] After what felt like forever, Erina was finally able to hail a cab. The drive back to her hostel was quiet and long, it was a good thing though, she had enough time to gather her thoughts. "We're here." The driver informed, destroying her train of thoughts. "Thank you." She paid for the trip then stepped out. At least she was home now. Staring at the tall building in front of her, her shoulders dropped. Another trip up to her dorm, everyday she has to climb those horrifying stairs. "You can do this girl." She exhaled. By the time she got to the fifth floor, she was already panting. "One more to go." She smiled dryly. And in no time, she was on her floor. She brought out her keys and inserted it into the lock but was surprised to see that she couldn't put it through."The heck?" She wondered. It seemed as though the door was locked from the inside. How was that possible though? She didn't have a roommate for the time being. Cassy was out of town, and no one had access to her room. Still wondering what was going on, she placed her hands on the door and knocked lightly. No answer. She tried again, still there was no reply. On the third attempt, she heard the sound of the door unlocking. It was opened by a dark haired lady with a tag that showed she was one of the officials in charge of the hostel. "What the freak are you doing in there?" Erina barked. "Without my permission! What sort of disrespect is this?" She was furious that the lady had the guts to enter her room and even lock the door from inside. The lady however, didn't say a word to Erina. Not until she made an attempt to enter the room. "Where do you think you're going?" She asked in a serious tone, keeping her professionalism. "My room? This is my room, and I'm trying to get in." Erina replied. "I think the question I should be asking is, what in hell are you doing here?" "Following orders." The lady said. Erina was shocked as to what was happening. "What?" Erina yelled in disbelief. What a bad day to live! She had no idea what worse could happen to her anymore. "Yes, miss Erina, you heard me the first time. I'm following orders. You can't come in." The lady stopped her by raising her hand. Erina had no option but to accept and stop. Erina pinched the bridge of her nose. She was too tired and stressed for the drama the lady was up to."Why?" She asked simply. "Like I said, miss, orders from above. You can't come in, today, tomorrow or ever." The lady informed her with a cold and stern tone. Erina felt as if she was being mocked by her fate. "What is that supposed to mean? You are kicking me out?" She was not able to believe what she was hearing. How could they? Erina felt that the management was being biased now. "Exactly. So you must evacuate the building immediately." The lady said while shooing her away. Erina could not believe that she was being ditched, and thrown out of her own house. "What? That's bullshit." Erina yelled, waving her hands in the air. There was nothing she could do as the hostel manager was on vacation. She had to wait for her to get back in order to settle the matter. "I'm sorry, but you should have thought about the place you live before ruining your reputation. This isn't a place for whores." Erina only believed what the lady was saying, when she started taking out her luggages and flinging them in the hallway. "You guys have to be kidding. Tonight? Where am I expected to go?" And just like that, she was on the brink of tears again. She held back the tears, she was sick of crying, it didn't help her one bit anyway. Erina thought of staying there and begging the lady, but from the looks of things, she knew no mercy. She picked her luggages and started battling her way down stairs. Never in her life have she ever wished for a family badly. Everything sucked at the moment and she wished she had a mother to run to, to hug, to cry on and a father to pat her on the back and tell her she was going to be okay. Bring her hot chocolate and sing to her. But no, that can only be in her delusions. She shut her eyes tightly, hoping to get rid of the thoughts. Instead, she only got reminded of her past even more. The accident, her mother trying her best to push her out of the car. How the fire covered the whole car the moment she jumped out. Their screams, her parents screams. She was just six but till date, she goes to sleep hearing those cries and screams. Wishing she was in there with them, at least she would not be left alone in this bitter world. Ending up desperate for love, getting dumped by the only man who ever seemed to care for her. A drop of water on her face brought her back to reality. There was another drop, it was getting worse. Rain. Her heart raced as she tried to figure out what to do. If she doesn't get a place immediately, she and all her luggage would get drenched in the rain. She hurriedly stopped a cab and jumped in. "Kutley's shelter please." As much as she dreaded the place, it was the only option she had. They soon pulled up at Kutley's shelter, The foster home where she grew up. Most of the memories attached to this place were horrifying, all the bullying and torture, the favouritism from the caretakers. She clearly remembers how she walked out of the place and didn't bother turning back after getting admitted into college. Now here she was, three years later, she was back as the loser she was when she left. She walked straight to the head of the house who was surprised to see her, but still gave her a room. "I think I know that face." Erina heard someone say the moment she walked into the room. She pulled her things in all the while trying to avoid eye contact with any of the girls in the room. There were at least eight of them in the tiny room. Erina kept her things and found a place on the floor that was decent enough for her to spend the night. Erina could hear the young girls talking and giggling, probably about her, but that was not her problem. She laid down in silence, the gossip from the girls were killing her, and she couldn't fall asleep. So she picked her phone even though that wasn't the best idea owing to all the drama today, and started scrolling. Her jaw dropped as she saw what was trending on her university forum. She felt a wave surge through her, her heart sank, this was too much for one day. A picture of her on the floor helplessly on the floor. The other post was a video of her pulling her luggage into the wretched room. It was captioned "BACK TO THE DUMPSTER AFTER GETTING DUMPED BY THE HOTTEST GUY." Erina looked so terrible. Only in the picture did she notice how messy her hair was. How is she expected to resume school after all the embarrassment? She looked at the girls in front of her, obviously they did this. But what she wondered was how they knew the school she attended and how they had access to the forum. It took her a while to recognize one of them. The one who whispered something the moment she walked in. She attended the same college as Erina. Erina's blood boiled, this little brat took pictures of her and posted it, just to add to her humiliation. Looking around the room, she picked a big plank on the floor and furiously walked towards the girl, hitting her hard. "You b***h what did you do that for?" "Ahhh." The girl screamed. Before the other girls could handle the situation, the door was barged open by one of the shelter's workers. Erina stopped attacking the girl. "Good. I was about to come throw you out. Now I have a greater reason to." The worker said. Erina was about to protest, but thought against it. It clearly wouldn't change anything. She packed her things and moved out of the shelter immediately. Luckily, the rain has stopped, leaving the place wet and cold. Erina spotted the nearest pavement and sat down. Cars passing by occasionally splashing her water. But it was the neatest spot she could find. "Now what Erina? Now what?" She muttered. There was nowhere to go. The only person that was still in her life was Cassy and she was too far at the moment. With the amount of drama in her life, she would be automatically fired from her job in the restaurant, there was no point going there tomorrow. Not knowing what to do next, she checked her bag for her phone. Hoping she'd find someone in her contacts who would be interested in helping her for the night. Her hands feel something along with the phone. A card. It was the card from the man earlier today. Khuraan Kilantro was boldly written on it, along with his contact details. "I have no other options." She convinced herself before dialling his number. It rang for a while with no answer. Just when she felt it was a bad idea and thought of cutting the call, he picked. It was silent on his side. "Urhmm, hi." She said. "Yes?" Was the man's reply. Erina raked through her hair in utter hesitation and nervousness. Why would he even help her when everyone had left her on the street? Of course, why would he risk his repute for her? "I need your help." She finally muttered those words by putting down her dignity. Only if Cassy was here and she did not need to text anybody. Any random hot guy she had just met earlier. "Who is this?" She bit her bottom lips, thinking about how to start explaining. Khuraan did not recognise her voice. Who would? They barely had a proper chat earlier. "It's Erina, the girl from earlier today." Erina bit her lower lip and her antsy grew more. What if he did not realise who she was? What if he had seen those forum footage? "Okay, you need to be more specific." His voice was grim. Her shoulders sank at his words. Was he playing some kind of prank on her now? "We met this evening. And…" Erina paused assuming that he was definitely toying with her emotions. What if he had realised who she was but wanted her to beg? "And?" Khuraan’s voice turned even more grim as if he was portraying that she was wasting his precious time. "I kind of broke your windshield." She finally said. The most obvious clue. "Ahhh, the feisty little miss!" He chuckled. All of a sudden, the unfamiliarity and coldness in his tone disappeared. "Yes, that. I need your help please." Erina went straight to the point after he recognised and talked with familiarity. "What sort of help? Have you decided on how to pay me for the damages?" Khuraan teased her with a chuckle. "Actually sir, I'm a bit stranded and have nowhere to go." Erina blurted everything truthfully in one go. "What?" She could feel all his seriousness return. "Where are you?" He asked. "Send me the address and wait." He added then hung up. She texted him the address of the shelter, and then went to stay at the entrance. About ten minutes later, a car parked in front of her, the light shining brightly on her face. She squinted her eyes hoping she would be able to see who was in the car. Two men stepped out. "Good evening ma'am. Master said we should come get you." Before she could reply, her phone began ringing. It was Khuraan. "Hey, Erina, follow them, they'll bring you to a safe place." He said, then hung up. "Okay, let's go then." She smiled at them. They led her to the back seat and shut the door, then sat in front. They drove to a part of the city she had never seen with her eyes. Those type streets one gets to see only in movies. Tall buildings, duplexes, luxuriously carved. Everyone who lives here is an example of stinking rich. The car pulled up at the entrance of one of the duplexes. Erina was led out of the car, two rows of guards standing neatly waiting for her. "Welcome miss." The head butler bowed. "This way, Master is waiting for you." He said as he led her into the building. She followed suit, her brain trying to grasp what was going on. She had only one question on her mind. "Who the f**k is this Khuraan?"
