A mess

Erina followed the butler swiftly as they passed through the welcoming area of the mansion. That part alone was enough to amaze her. Her surprise heightened the moment she set her eyes on the grand living room. The furniture was modern with a touch of royalty. She could tell from the look of the walls that they spent a fortune to make it look like that elegant. And not to mention the marbled floors. She wished that instinct that she could take off her shoes just to be able to feel the floor. The butler came to a halt, and so did she the moment they got to a private lounge that was also on the ground floor. This part was decorated differently. The color white was the main theme, with a touch of grey. It was beautiful. "Take a seat, Erina." Khuraan said, his voice made her whole body tense. She didn't see him walk in. She would have minimised the staring. Her gaze shifted to the man who was now wearing a pair of sweat pants and a shirt. Though he looked amazing in the grey suit from earlier, the comfortable clothes made him look totally hot. Tempting! Erina sank in the white leather seats. Her eyes were not leaving Khuraan. He also took a seat. The butler bowed and then left. "I'm surprised." Khuraan chuckled. He couldn't hide his amusement. "You've decided this fast." He added. Erina felt a lump in her throat. A part of her had forgotten that he offered her a marriage deal in order to pay for the damages. "I'm not here to get married to you." She immediately cleared. "Oh really?" He raised a brow, leaning into the sofa. "That is the only payment I'm willing to accept." He smirked. The thought of getting married to a complete stranger sent a shiver down her spine. Maybe calling him was a bad idea. Then the thought of the hurricane her life was in at the moment hit her. This isn't some nightmare that'll go away in the morning. It was real life. Tomorrow, she's going to wake up without a job, shelter, and a boyfriend. "What is the deal?" She asked. "The deal?" Khuraan casually repeated those words with a sigh. He was certainly teasing her, making Erina realise she had nowhere else to go. "Yes, Mr Kiltanro, we both know this isn't love. So there has to be some agreement and stuff." He was impressed by Erina’s wits. Sure enough, she had Googled him, and that was how she knew his surname. "Okay, first of all, drop the formality. Don't add any Mr. before my name, and most certainly, do not call me by my surname." He stated. Erina had to comply because it was his house. "Okay. Noted, Khuraan." She immediately accepted, even though the woman was still hesitant. As expected, she was giving in by recalling her current helpless state. "Erina, I need a wife, while you owe me big money. Not to mention you have nowhere to stay." He sat up so he could hold eye contact with her. "We'll get married. You would live here, eat here, and do practically everything to make this marriage normal." His face showed how serious he was when he spoke. "My wife won't have to cook or do anything that she doesn't feel like. As you can see, we have workers for practically every chore." Khuraan added as he slumped back on the sofa. "So, what exactly is my duty?" Erina inquired. If there was nothing she was supposed to do, then why did Khuraan need her? Something was not right. There had to be some catch. "Be my wife." Khuraan spoke in a serious tone. While Erina thought he was completely joking. "That's all?" She questioned him once again, assuming that she may have misheard. There was nothing else? "Yes, Erina, take my surname, and all your debts are paid off. You'll, of course, get benefits for being Mrs Khuraan Kilantro." "So wait, practically, I get paid for paying my debt?" At this point, she was trying her best to hide her excitement. "Yes." He said. Khuraan was amazed at how effortlessly she could play sly and dumb cute whenever needed. He was practically swayed and smitten by her. A woman for the first time ever! "Hell yes. I don't have a problem with taking your surname." All that felt too good to be true. That was when it hit her. There would certainly be a catch. "But…" She spoke upon recalling something. "I wouldn't be sharing a bed with you." Khuraan had a straight face at first, which frightened Erina. Then he chuckled lightly."You are funny. You were the one who proposed that method of payback. Remember?" He grinned. "Don't chicken out." "No, Uhmm, I…" Erina tried to generate some excuse as fast as she could. Her cheeks became red in shame upon recalling how carelessly she had suggested that method. "It's fine Erina, you don't have to warm my bed." Khuraan could see that she was not ready, and he was willing to give her all the needed time. After all, he wasn’t letting her go anywhere. "Thank you." She sighed in relief. "So we have a deal now?" Erina became happy, and all her fears were relieved. She finally had a place to live, and her husband-to-be was a big shot. Well, as per the search engine. "Deal. Mrs Khuraan Kilantro." He chuckled while looking at her intensely. In normal circumstances, Erina would have creeped out, but for some reason, his stares made her hot. "Jack." Khuraan called the head butler."Yes Master." Jack walked in. "Call the staff of the house right now. We need witnesses." Khuraan said. Jack stepped out to do as told. "Witnesses, for what?" Erina asked, totally curious. She had no idea what was happening and had no other option, too. "Just wait and watch, beautiful." Khuraan assured her with a sly smile. He reached out to the drawer on the table and brought out a small box. In no time, all the workers assembled themselves in the lounge. If it wasn't for the size of the room,it wouldn't have been able to contain this amount of people. "Good evening Master." They all greeted him with a bow. Khuraan replied heartily, then faced Erina, who seemed a bit anxious at the moment. Standing right in front of her, he went down on one knee and opened the tiny box in his hands, revealing a diamond ring. "It's a bit sudden.” He started, leaving all her servitude in utter shock too. "But, will you be my wife, Erina?" His eyes were fixed on her as he spoke. The servants all admired quietly, while some whispered, "Say yes, say yes, Ma'am." Erina couldn't help but smile at the scene in front of her. "Yes," she managed to say, pulling her finger out to him. He slipped the ring in. Luckily, it was the perfect size. The servants clapped and cheered. Khuraan's mind was, however, on the ring and what he had just done. He got another woman engaged. He didn't think he would be able to do that after how his last engagement went. How he was used then and got dumped. How Angela, who used to be his, turned her back on him, left him without even caring about how he'd cope or what he'd go through. And also, what people would think of him after she left. The thought of it alone made his blood boil. But now that he had Erina, he could save his face in front of society. She was really the remedy he needed this whole time. "You are all dismissed. My wife needs her beauty sleep to make herself feel at home." He ordered, and the workers immediately left the lounge. He moved closer to her, held her hands in his, pulled them closer to his lips, and kissed them softly. It was obvious how hard she was trying to hide her now red tinted face. "Don't worry, Erina. No matter what happens, I'll do everything in my power to keep you safe. Your happiness is my responsibility." With those words, she couldn't hide the blush anymore. Her face was as red as a tomato. This earned her a laugh from Khuraan. "You don't have to worry about Jace and his toxicity. He never deserved you." Her body tensed, she slowly pulled away from him. Erina never planned on telling him about her ex that soon. "How do you know about Jace?" She asked, assuming that whatever Khuraan did was just out of pity. perhaps. He was quiet."Tell me." She insisted and became suspicious. "It's everywhere on social media. You don't expect me to not be aware of the Erina they were talking about." He said in a concerned voice. "Oh, that makes sense." She couldn’t help but reply in a low voice, trying to hide her ashamed face and embarrassment. Even though she wanted to score a rich guy, Erina didn’t want him to mistake her for a gold digger. "Like I said, Erina, you can trust me. You wouldn't regret this decision." Khuraan knew what she might have been thinking, but he wanted to give her some time to think. "Okay, Khuraan." She simply nodded while clenching her fists and avoided staring at him. Meanwhile, Khuraan knew that he had to fix some things before he could clear the misunderstanding. "You should get some sleep. The maids will take you to the room." He said, making his way to the lounge's exit. "Wait!" She called. "What now?" Erina could not help but feel suffocated by the amount of help and protocol she was receiving. He let out a deep sigh. "Come here.” When she got close enough, he cupped her face in his hands, "Now, you'll live here with me. I'll officially announce you as my Fiance soon." The thought of being someone's fiance again kind of comforted her. Khuraan called the maid, who led Erina upstairs."Here ma'am. Have a good night." She said when she opened the door to the room. Erina inhaled deeply. The room smelled so masculine, like sandalwood, like him. She placed her hands on the wall, looking for a light switch. She finally found it and switched it on, then moved forward. Her eyes gazed at every corner of the room. That looked like his bedroom. There was a large king-size bed in the middle. Erina immediately fantasised about how amazing it would feel to sink into it. By the left, there was a thick white leather sofa and a table. On the other side, a mini refrigerator and something that looked like a bookshelf, but instead of books, it had antique small sized statues. Erina paused and looked down when she got to the middle of the room, and her feet sank into something incredibly soft. It was so soft and thick that she could feel it through her shoes. A grey coloured carpet that looks like it'd cost a fortune. She took her shoes off and proceeded to the bed, where she made herself comfortable. I was sinking in just as she had imagined. With that, she drifted to sleep. The next morning, she woke up at the sound of someone's movement. She shot her eyes open. Spotting Khuraan saying about his business, getting dressed, the first thought that hit her was whether or not they spent the night on the same bed. Erina exhaled when she looked at the other side of the bed and realised it was still neatly laid. "Up already?" Khuraan said when he noticed she was awake. "Good morning." She said with a smile. He returned the smile while he tried to put his watch on. Erina stared at him in silence. He was in yet another grey suit. This one was lighter than the one he wore the first time they met. And it did compliment his ebony black hair. "I need to go to the office." He said, moving closer to her. "I'll send the maids up with breakfast. Eat, rest, and don't forget to feel at home." He added, then leaned in and placed a kiss on her forehead. "Bye, wife." Khuraan meaningfully said that and winked at her before leaving. "Bye." She said, putting her hands on her forehead. Still thinking about the kiss earlier, her thoughts were destroyed with a knock on the door. "Come in." She permitted, and two ladies in the maids' uniforms walked in with trays. They served breakfast and left. She stayed in bed all morning. Watching Netflix and doing everything in her power to avoid social media and Jace completely. "Lunch, miss." The maid spoke, walking in with the lunch tray. That was when Erina realised that she had spent her whole day doing nothing. She took a warm shower after lunch and then decided to take a stroll. Khuraan did tell her to feel at home. So why not? Erina started with the floor she was on, checking the hallway by hallway. Room by room. Some rooms were locked while some were just normal bedrooms. Somewhere resting areas, lounge's, music room, a room well stocked with all the music instruments anyone can think of. There was a huge library which she promised to revisit, and an art studio. The best part about all of that is how every inch of the mansion was spotless. She didn't come across even a speck of dirt. The place that piqued her interest the most was the hall downstairs. Furnished with amazing antique cushions and stools, but most importantly, it held portraits. The walls were decorated with pictures of Khuraan and all his adventures. Pictures of him horse riding, car racing, skydiving, skiing, and everything possible. "Sir was a very adventurous person." The maid cleaning the room said. "Was? He isn't anymore?" Erina asked as her hands traveled to his features in one of the pictures. "He doesn't do any of these anymore?" She added. That's when she noticed that he looked younger in all the pictures. "Sadly, he stopped a few years back." The maid informed with a disappointed expression. Perhaps everyone cared for Khuraan genuinely. "But why?" Erina probed. For some reason, she became curious. "That is something I do not know, ma'am." The lady replied, then continued her cleaning. Erina wanted to ask more questions but stopped the moment her eyes caught something in the farthest corner of the room. It looked like a gigantic portrait, but it was covered with a piece of clothing. Curiosity filled her stomach, so she walked towards it and swìftly opened it. "Kilantro Family." Was written at the bottom. "Beautiful." She said, looking at the extended family. Then her gaze traveled to the familiar man standing next to a woman. Her breath hitched, and she felt her body tense. "Jace?" She slapped herself just to make sure she wasn't hallucinating. "Erhm, come here, please." She called the maid. "Yes ma'am?" The maid obeyed as per she was ordered. "Who are they?" She pointed at Jace and his mother. "Oh, that's master Khuraan's sister-in-law, and that is her son, his nephew." The maid replied with a smile. "Is there a problem?" The maid asked, sensing Erina's tensed expressions. "No, no, I was just asking." Erina forced herself to say. Her heart raced at the thought of it all. She just got engaged and was getting married to her ex-boyfriend's uncle soon? s**t!
