NICHOLAS POV
Immediately Kim picked up the call, and the person at the other end of her phone said something to her. She rushed to the passenger side of my car.
I was confused by her sudden hurry, and forgot to unlock my car door, making her knock on the window impatiently.
I opened the door and she hurriedly got in.
She quickly strapped on her seat belt, relaxed her back on the car seat, and waited as though I knew where she wanted to go.
But she seemed uneasy, which made me know that something was wrong.
“Where to?” I asked her, and when she turned to me, realizing that she didn't tell me where she wanted to go.
When she turned, I was captivated by her intense amber eyes. That was what attracted me to her from the onset.
“Please, I need a favor. Some people just called and said they had my brother in custody. They will kill him if I don’t show up,” Kim said with trepidation and I tensed up.
It was more serious than I thought.
“Let’s call the police then,” I said and picked up my phone to call the police, but she held my hand to bid to stop me.
When her skin and mine came in contact with her trying to stop me, it was electrifying in a good way. Enough to make my c**k hard.
I knew she felt the same electrifying feeling as I did because she immediately retracted her hand.
She cleared her throat and became flustered. I watched as his cheek became crimson red.
No way!! My mystery girl who was giving off a hard-to-get vibe blushed.
It took all the willpower in me not to smile, but I did it. I suppressed my smile.
Moreover, this wasn’t a situation to smile.
“Don’t call the police. They made it clear. I just want my brother to be safe. All you have to do is drop me there, and then you can leave afterward. Please,” She pleaded and I saw desperation in her eyes.
She was desperate to save her brother, but I was afraid that her desperation might lead her to rush there without plans.
But I wasn’t going to argue with her over it, because we didn’t have time.
“The address?” I asked her, and she typed it on my car's dashboard touchscreen.
Using the directions Google Maps gave to me, I drove off.
Throughout our ride to the place, Kim was silent and occasionally fidgeted with her fingers before looking out the car window.
Even a blind person would have been able to sense her fear and anxiety.
I would be lying if I said I didn’t feel a surge of anxiety seeing her this way too.
Her red hair was packed in a ponytail, giving me a good view of her face, and damn this girl was effortlessly beautiful.
Her porcelain skin glittered whenever a car, with its headlights on, passed us and the lights reflected on her skin.
Her kissable lips were now in a thin line due to worry and her beautiful face scrunched up to form a frown.
I decided not to say anything, and just let her be. Because I knew my words wouldn’t help matters.
Also, I believed in one important principle of mine, which was to talk less and do more.
Action they say speaks louder words.
“I think this is the place,” I said to her when we arrived at an uncompleted building.
The place looked spooky and there was no way I was going to let Kim walk in there alone.
“Alright, thanks a lot for the ride, and here is your ring,” She handed me the ring and her hand trembled while she did so.
She quickly dropped the ring on my palm that was outstretched towards her and hid her trembling hand.
I accepted the ring because I didn’t want us to waste time and didn't comment about her trembling hands.
But after we left here safely, I planned on talking her into agreeing to sign a contract with me and seal our fake marriage deal.
She unbuckled her seat belt and got out of my car.
I watched as she sighed and began to walk to my side of the car.
I knew she wanted to go in, so I got out of my car and followed behind her.
“What are you doing?” She stopped and whispered when she saw that I was going in with her.
“You’ll need me,” Was all I said with a straight face, and she rolled her eyes, but began walking again.
Seems like she knew she was never going to make me change my mind, or maybe she was scared and wanted someone around.
We walked into the building and the instant we did, I saw a young boy who looked to be 17 or 18 years old, kneeling with his hands tied behind his back.
I was surprised because I didn’t expect to see someone so young.
“Who is he? I thought we told you to come alone?” A rough voice said and that was when I saw armed men walk into the lighted area room we were in.
“I’m his elder brother and she is my sister. What did my brother do wrong,” I asked, unfazed by the fact that the men were armed.
Just by looking at the man who spoke, I knew he was a drug lord.
Now the question was, what was Kim’s brother doing in a drug den?
I watched as Kim’s brother looked at me with creased brows when I said I was his elder brother and so did Kim.
But they didn't say anything.
“He used the drugs that were given to him to sell, and now he owes us 10 grand (means 10 thousand dollars),” The drug lord said, making Kim gasp and her eyes widen.
“10 thousand what??!! We don’t have such an amount of money!!!” Kim exclaimed in shock.
Her brother lowered his head in shame after seeing Kim's reaction.
I was taken aback by what I heard. Not the money part, because money wasn’t a problem for me.
What surprised me was that Kim’s brother, who I was very sure wasn’t up to 18 years old, was already a drug user and seller.
When I turned to look at Kim, I saw her looking at me and looked away immediately feeling embarrassed.
“Then we have no option but to keep him hostage until you pay or, better still, Kil …” The drug lord wanted to continue talking, but I cut him mid-sentence.
“I’ll pay. Will you accept the money to be transferred into your bank account? ” I said, making everyone turn their heads to look at me, including Kim’s brother who was looking downwards just a few minutes ago.
“What are you doing?” Kim shifted close to me and said through gritted teeth.
“Helping you,” I said and looked at the drug lord who was looking at me as if trying to see if I could afford the money or if I was just playing him.
“Give him our account number,” The drug lord said with his thick Italian accent.
One of his men walked to me and gave me a card.
I made the transfer to the account immediately.
All the while I was doing so, Kim kept tugging at my arm for me to stop, but I knew better than to listen to her in this situation.
Why could this girl never accept that she needed help? I thought to myself.
I heard the drug lord’s phone beep after I sent the money, and he confirmed that he had received the money.
They released Kim’s brother after that and made us sign an agreement not to voice out anything that happened here, or else they would find us and kill us.
Afterward, we walked out of the building and got into my car.
The moment Kim's brother caught sight of both the exterior and the interior of my car, his jaw dropped with awe, but Kim tugged at his shoulders, making him compose himself again.
I chuckled seeing them behave that way, and now we were sitting in my car.
“Why did you pay them? I would have paid them. I …” Kim wanted to continue but was interrupted by her brother.
“She is lying. We don’t have that kind of money. We can’t even afford a three-square meal. She works different part-time jobs before she pays my tuition fee in …” Kim's brother wanted to complete his statement, but was interrupted by his angry and flustered sister.
“Shut up, big mouth. You know what? That's it, get out of this car,” Kim scolded her brother, who just rolled his eyes, and remained where he was seated in the back seat.
I knew that Kim wasn’t from a wealthy family, judging by how I couldn't find anything when I tried to do a background check on her.
But what I didn’t expect was to hear that they couldn’t afford three square meals. It was so sad hearing that, and it made me more angry at Dave.
He could have frolicked with rich girls like he normally did, but why did he choose a naive poor girl who was trying her best to make a living?
That was so callous of him.
I asked to drop them off at home and Kim declined immediately, but her brother told me their address.
I was grateful that he was with us at that moment.
Aside from his drug-addict situation, I liked him, because he was outspoken, just like me.
As expected, they lived in the downtown of the city where the poor lived.
I zoomed off heading to their house, and it took me only 30 minutes to get there.
Thirty minutes of absolute silence in the car.
Getting there, I stopped in front of a condo that was very old and rickety. It made me pity them the most.
I then made up my mind to donate a huge amount of money to the poor when I become the CEO of my family's company.
We all got down from my car, and they were surprised that I got down as well. But Kim wasn’t embarrassed by her neighborhood.
She held her chin high and just pretended like I wasn’t there.
“What's your name, big guy?’ I asked Kim’s brother because the silence was becoming awkward, and he smiled.
“Drayton,” He answered.
“Call me Nick. I’m Kim’s fiancé,” I said to him and his eyes widened in disbelief, while Kim glared at me, making me smile.
I enjoyed this.
I thought this might be a good way to make my offer irrefutable for Kim. I didn’t want another girl for my marriage deal any longer.
I wanted her, my mystery girl, and I always got what I wanted.
She looked so cute, glaring at me that I was thinking of always riling her up just to get this look from her.
All the passersby kept looking at us as they passed by.
I needed no soothsayer to tell me that it was my car that was drawing this much attention to us.
I made a mental note to go in a less expensive car the next time I come into this neighborhood.
“Dray go inside. I need to have a private talk with Nick,” Kim said to Drayton, who nodded and wanted to leave, but I stopped him.
What I said made them both astounded.
