CHAPTER FOUR

NICHOLAS POV I finally got to know my mystery girl's name today when she was asked for her name back at dinner. But it seemed like Dave was going to spoil the night for me. I could feel the tension between Kimberly and Dave back at dinner, but I didn’t read much meaning to it. Kimberly was about to say something after she removed her arms which were intertwined with mine, which made me feel empty and craving for her skin on mine again. But seeing Dave and his spoiled b***h Avery walking towards us made Kimberly huff. I knew that Avery and Dave walking towards us right now wasn't going to yield anything good. “So you couldn't have me anymore, and you decided to choose my uncle as your next prey?” Dave asked Kimberly, making Avery let out a laugh of mockery. I didn't know what they were talking about, but they were being disrespectful, and I wasn’t going to just stand and watch them try to ridicule Kim. I was still trying to understand how Mrs. Moore got to find her and convince her to accept to go into a fake marriage with me. The first time I saw Kimberly was when I and Mrs Moore were leaving the company during closing hours, which was 3 pm. That was when I saw Kim passing in front of our company building. Her beauty was Ethereal even though she looked so exhausted, and her curves made it difficult for anyone not to look at her a second time. She was my ideal type of woman. I had Mrs Moore do a background check on her after she secretly took a picture of Kimberly. But we found nothing about Kimberly and that intrigued me the more. I ended up leaving our company at that same time every day just to watch her walk past me. I was a very outspoken person, but when it came to her, I never mustered up enough courage to walk up to her and speak to her. All I did was admire her from a distance. Never did I think I would get to talk to her one day, let alone stand this close to her. “Dave, you would show my fiancée some respect,” I spat coldly and saw fear creep into his face. “You can’t be with her. Kim is a gold digger and…” Dave wanted to continue talking but was cut mid-sentence by Kimberly. “A gold digger?” She paused and scoffed in annoyance before she continued. “Well, yeah!! I’m a gold digger who has been your girlfriend for eight years now. Eight f*****g years Dave. I’m a gold digger who has been faithful to you and has never asked you for a penny. So yeah, call me a gold digger,” Kimberly snapped at Dave, who didn’t expect her sudden outburst dripping with sarcasm. I saw a sudden look of emotion flash on Dave’s face before he masked it away. That was the moment I knew that Kim was innocent of the accusation Dave was posing on her. But I was still astounded to hear that Kimberly and Dave were in a relationship. “You… two are… are dating?” I stuttered due to how shocked I was to hear that Dave and Kim were in a relationship. “Not anymore. I’m….” Avery wanted to continue talking as she continuously glared at Kim, who looked like she was about to break down in tears at any moment. But Avery was interrupted by Dave’s glare. “She asked me to pay for her mom’s surgery and I guess that's why she’s here. To beg me,” Dave drawled when he said the last part. I looked at Kimberly to be sure what I heard was right, and the look on her face made me know she truly dated Dave. “You know what? f**k you, Dave,” She said with pure contempt and began to walk away. I turned to look at Dave and saw a smirk make its way to his face. Dave was a complete definition of an asshole. How on earth could he treat a woman the way he did? It made me despise him even more, because if there was anything my mom taught us as men, it was to respect women. “Uncle Nick, can I advise you?” Dave asked me with a solemn look on his face. “Go on,” I urged him. “Girls like that aren’t good for you. They’ll abscond with your money one day. So I'd advise you to take back your ring and find someone better because Kim isn’t worth it,” Dave said seriously. With the way he was talking seriously, one would think that he was actually being sincere, but I knew better than to believe anything that came out of Dave’s mouth. He was a perpetual Liar. “Now listen to me and listen very well. I don’t know what you did to that innocent girl when you two were together. But from now, I want you to stay clear of her,” I warned him with a cold look on my face. I was disgusted with him and Avery. I turned to see if I could still catch up with Kimberly but then, I remembered that there was one more thing I had to do. So I turned back to look at Dave and Avery, who hadn’t moved one step from where they were standing. “Oh, and you know I don’t warn people about something I’m not dead serious about. So don’t cross me, Dave. You know better than to do that,” I added, with a menacing look on my face. Satisfied with the look of fear and annoyance I saw on both their faces, I turned and walked away. I walked in the direction in which I saw Kimberly leave, but she was nowhere to be found. I then asked a security guard I saw standing there, and he told me she had left the gate not long ago. I cursed and then rushed to my Rolls-Royce. I got into it and zoomed out of our family residence, hoping I’d catch up with her before she got an Uber. But to my surprise, I saw her walking down our street and crying. No, scratch that, she was wailing. I sighed, knowing that she was definitely heartbroken now. When I got to where she was walking, I slowed down and whined my car window down. “Get in, let me drop you off,” Was all I said to her. I was supposed to be kind and gentle to her now that she was in a bad state, but I couldn’t help but be mad at her. Why on earth did she choose to date someone like Dave? Everyone knew that dating Dave was like knowingly walking into the fire. “I’m fine thank you,” She replied with tears streaming down her eyes and still walking. “Kim just get into the damn car. Jesus!!” I snapped, making her flinch and look at me with surprise. Of course, I regretted my sudden outburst, but I couldn’t bring down my pride to apologize to her. “And I said no!!! Jeez!!! You should all just leave me the f**k alone,” She retorted and began walking again. All my life no woman had dared to talk back at me, but here she was doing just that, and I couldn’t reprimand her. I wasn’t even annoyed. What was this girl already doing to me? I continued driving slowly beside her, while she just kept walking without sparing me a glance. She suddenly stopped and turned to me, making me hit the brakes on my car. “Oh, and I was about to give you back your ring before your nephew walked in on us. I’m not the girl you were expecting. I just decided to help you out and spare you embarrassment. You can easily lie to your family that we broke up. After all, that’s what all you rich men do. Lie,” She said, and I could see pains in her eyes when she spoke. She then removed the ring and just when she was about to give it to me, her phone began ringing. I watched as her brows creased when she saw the caller and picked up the call. “Yes this is Kimberly, Dray’s sister,” She answered. I don’t know what the person who called her said to her, but the next thing she did was unexpected.
