Volume 1: Extra Chapter - Several Years Later
To prove the worth of this story, I’ll start with an extra chapter. Take a look. If you like it, keep reading. If not, just skip it.
In a spacious villa, a man wearing a gray sweater stood in front of a floor-to-ceiling window, holding a laptop. His expression was serious as he listened to his subordinates' work reports while keeping an eye on his little wife, who always made him anxious.
Rose sat on the sofa, gently stroking her belly. In front of her was a comic book she had just bought from Japan.
"Hmm, Ye'er is still the best," she thought, appreciating that he knew her interests. Being pregnant meant she was mostly confined to the house, but at least she had these comics to keep her entertained. Feeling the baby move, Rose lovingly patted her belly, her eyes filled with endless expectations for the child.
"Baby, isn’t it beautiful? When you’re born, Mommy will tell you all about these handsome boys' stories."
"No way!"
Rose looked up to see her boss and husband standing in front of her, looking displeased. Feeling wronged, Rose pouted but, accustomed to being bullied, she dared not defy her husband despite her newfound status. She could only pout to show her discontent.
Seeing her pouty red lips, Dante could only sigh helplessly. Since marrying her, his life had become much more surprising. He didn't understand why he had softened his heart for this silly girl despite his initial decision to stay away.
Snatching the comic from Rose’s hands, Dante felt the need to sternly warn her once more.
"When the baby is born, you’re not allowed to show him these comics, let him watch your movies, or take him to gay bars!"
A series of prohibitions crushed Rose's hobbies, prompting her to protest.
"Why not? I’m the mother. I have the right to cultivate his interests."
He was a boy, a precious son. She had worked hard to convince her husband and paid a heavy price to confirm it was a boy. Rose had already planned in her heart that all her unfulfilled BL (boys' love) dreams would be realized through her son. Especially...
Her eyes lingered on her dear husband. With such excellent genes, her son was bound to be a stunningly handsome boy. Paired with her handsome husband, a father-son romance was such a loving idea.
But to be stopped from nurturing her son? That was unacceptable!
Silently curling up on the sofa, Rose’s accusing gaze made Dante’s scalp tingle. Moving his stiff face, he sat beside her.
"My parents have already said they will take care of the child when he’s born."
That meant the US, which was what Dante hoped for, to avoid having a little light bulb around, disrupting his nighttime benefits. Plus, glancing at the comics, he lamented once more that his wife’s interests were not something he could approve of.
Hearing that the baby would be taken to her in-laws, Rose was initially displeased but then broke into a smile, grabbing her husband's sleeve. "Great, great, a grandparent-grandchild relationship is even more loving."
Feeling flustered, Dante’s face turned iron blue, realizing why Rose had emphasized whether he would love their baby boy.
Teeth gritted, he growled, "Rose!"
Realizing she had spoken the truth out loud, Rose looked at her husband’s murderous expression and, fearing for her life, shamelessly used their unborn son as a shield.
"Honey, I’m pregnant."
Dante smiled coldly. "Pregnant, five months, right?"
Holding her belly, she nodded vigorously. No, tears welled up. Rose suddenly understood why her husband mentioned five months. The doctor had said after five months, it was safe to...
Pleading eyes looked at her husband, who seemed eager to act. In a final attempt, she pointed out the lingering subordinates.
"Honey, there are still people here."
Dante glanced back, already achieving his desired effect.
Assistant Hu and others immediately stood up. "President, we’ll leave now. You… handle your family matters."
Within a minute, the house was quiet. Rose reached out helplessly, but no one was there to help. Instead, she was enveloped in a warm embrace.
Soon, the luxurious, warm room echoed with cries of anguish as someone’s heart bled.
Why, oh why, did she end up with such a domineering husband?
Yes, the extra chapter is just to boost clicks, placed at the front. If you want to see more of Rose and her domineering husband's story, keep reading. I guarantee it will make you laugh until your stomach hurts. A very loving and warm story… a fujoshi (BL fan) Rose and a cold, domineering husband. Stay tuned...
Volume 1: Chapter 1 - Getting Up in the Middle of the Night
At three in the morning, Rose crawled out of bed, with panda eyes, habitually plugging in and turning on her computer. She rubbed her eyes and logged on. The crackling noise in the old house annoyed Juzi, who slept next door. Grumbling about the poor soundproofing, she rolled over and went back to sleep, not caring what the creature next door was up to.
After a while, when the screen showed that the broadband was connected, Rose opened the 115 webpage. Her mouse stopped at the familiar large characters of the Green Robe Novel Website, squinting, and she saw the Arabic numerals at the top corner of the page.
May 10, 2009, 3:15 AM.
Oh, thirty seconds late, Rose finally realized she had insomnia again. Banging her head on the desk, she got nothing but Juzi’s angry roar from the next room. However, she could still see stars before her eyes.
This was the fifth time Rose had insomnia in a week. Although it was Thursday, she once woke up and went back to sleep in the middle of the night, so the number of times she had insomnia increased. If you ask why Rose had insomnia, it’s a story of blood and tears.
Rose graduated with a degree in Chinese literature. After much effort, she found a job as an editor at a novel website. She was thrilled at first, thinking her job aligned perfectly with her interests: sitting in front of the computer, reading articles, and chatting with authors. Time passed quickly, especially with free internet access. What a great job! Rose didn’t understand why so many people were unemployed when there were opportunities everywhere.
Until the end of the first month, Rose was humiliated by her boss because her authors' articles didn't get enough subscriptions. (Literally, humiliated. In a two-hour meeting, Rose kept her head down, hiding her red ears in her shell, leading to lumbar disc problems later.) She realized that making money wasn't easy.
From then on, Rose worked hard, transforming into a tiger, urging her authors to update their stories. With so many literature websites, life was tough. Thus, Rose passed the second month’s assessment.
Unfortunately, good times didn’t last. Subscription rates had to keep rising. The more she improved, the higher her boss’s expectations. Rose burned her energy to the extreme. Finally, her authors couldn't stand it and called her a tyrant.
Rose reluctantly accepted, comforting herself that only capable people could be tyrants. If she was ever fired, she’d end up a beggar. So, she kept working hard.
Now, halfway through May, Rose had been leisurely enjoying snacks, as she had a few superstar authors under her wing and wasn’t too worried about subscriptions. But suddenly, her golden geese fell ill and took leave. Her computer icons blinked like crazy, and Rose was busy talking and comforting them, advising them to rest well.
Of course, they had to rest well; otherwise, what about her subscriptions? When the word “subscription” flashed in her mind, Rose realized a serious problem.
Volume 1: Chapter 2 - Seeking Help After Insomnia
If her superstar authors were all sick, what would she do? Thinking about the editor-in-chief’s dark face during the monthly summary meeting, the gentle, roasting energy, Rose felt a chill. Then, all the symptoms appeared.
First, she caught colds, had fevers, and runny noses. Then, headaches, fevers, and hoarse throats. Rose was depressed at first, then delighted, and ran to knock on her boss’s door.
The editor-in-chief, Mu Mu, looked at the crumpled note Rose handed over, her face turning green, white, and black, and asked, "What’s this?"
Rose smiled brightly and answered straightforwardly.
"A leave note."
Mu Mu’s face turned black and red, and she asked, "For what reason?"
Rose answered again.
"I’m sick."
Then she made a series of symptoms. Mu Mu watched Rose’s performance, finally losing her temper. Her painted nails snapped as she slammed her hand on the desk.
"I know it’s sick leave, but why are you asking for leave now when it’s for the 30th?"
Rose was an honest child, so she answered very honestly.
"Because that’s when the department summary meeting is."
Cold sweat, time stood still, Rose covered her mouth late. Seeing her boss’s face turning red, veins bulging, she wondered if she should call an ambulance.
Ten seconds later, a series of curses erupted from the editor-in-chief’s office at Green Robe Website.
"You can predict that you’ll have a cold, fever, and runny nose on the 30th?"
Rose panicked, explaining, "No, no."
Seeing her boss still fuming, Rose finally used the workplace maxim.
"Editor-in-chief, I was wrong."
