ALINA The elevator doors opened and Rex allowed me to step in first before he followed and the doors shut behind us. He hit the button for his floor and we started to move. I heard him take a deep breath through his nose. “Goddess, you smell amazing.” He murmured. I felt the heat rise in my cheeks. “You do too.” I could almost hear his member twitch at my comment. Ugh, is that all he thinks about? Why does that matter? He’s our mate and he’s smokin’ and he’s the only one who can help us. Kiiya purred inside my head. You knew didn’t you? You knew he was our mate and that’s why you wanted to come here. You sneaky little wolf. I grumbled. These few seconds in the elevator were maddening. I had a feeling. The Moon Goddess wants us here. Whatever. The doors opened and I followed Rex onto the fifth floor. The halls were a dark grey with accented trims and beautiful paintings lined the walls in perfect symmetry. “I have the west wing to myself and my future Luna.” My breath hitched in my throat as Rex told me that. “And the east wing belongs to my Beta, the ginger that you met named Hunter, and his future mate.” Rex led me down the hall to a large wooden door with decorated carvings of what looked like the pack’s history. “This is my office.” The door opened revealing a rustic and large office. His desk was in the back in front of a bay window. Bookshelves to the ceiling lined the walls filled with so many books. Two leather cushioned chairs were in front of his desk and he had his own custom leather chair behind it. A large bear skin rug covered most of the wood flooring. “I have never seen an office like this. It’s beautiful.” I commented. I watched as Rex pulled open one of his desk drawers and grabbed a shirt. He slipped it over his head. I suddenly felt like I could focus more. “Thank you. Please, take a seat. I’ll have Hunter bring us some drinks.” Rex gestured to the chairs in front of his desk. REX Even with a worried look on her face, she was adorable. Talk to her! Levi barked. “It occurred to me, that I don’t know your name.” I said quietly. I watched the expression on her face change. She didn’t want to tell me, but why? Finally, she raised her blue eyes to look at my brown. “My name is Alina Heartsbane.” I paused. Why did that sound so familiar? “What’s yours?” “Rex Monroe. Alpha of the Red Woods Pack. Can you tell me why you were in our territory?” The door opened behind us and Hunter came in carrying three bottles of water. He handed one off to Alina and she muttered a quiet thank you. I watched Alina take a sip of the water before closing the bottle. Water dripped down her chin and a low growl rumbled in my throat. She quickly wiped it and avoided eye contact with me. “I was being chased by some rogues and the nearest pack was you. I didn’t have anywhere else to go. I was sleeping on the beach and they caught me by surprise.” “Wait, the beach?!” Hunter asked. He came around to my side of the desk and was watching the interaction between the two of us. “You ran all the way here, from the beach.” “Yes.” Alina nodded. She looked annoyed by Hunter already. “Dude, she’s a rogue. We should just send her on her way. If the pack finds out, they’re going to be pissed that we kept her here.” I squeezed the edge of the desk in anger. He must not know who she is. “We can’t do that.” “Why not? She’s a rogue, not our problem.” Alina stood abruptly. Her eyes flared with rage, nearly turning black. Her wolf was fighting for control. “I’m not a rogue. I’m his mate.”
