ALINA
I don’t know what came over me. The second Hunter started challenging me, Kiiya was snarling inside me. “I’m not a rogue. I’m his mate.” I spat the last word. Rex had wide eyes and they flickered between me and his Beta. “I came here because I need help.”
“Hunter, stand down.” Rex ordered. “Make sure, a guest room is ready in my wing. I need to speak with her alone.” Hunter stepped around the desk and left the office quickly. “I’m sorry about him. He gets a little defensive about the pack.”
“Understandably so.” I gave him a small smile. “Listen, I’m sorry that I kinda just came in here and turned everything upside down for you.”
“You must be feeling the same way. You came here for safety and met me instead.” Rex came around the desk and came within inches of me. “I know we don’t know each other, but I want to know you. Will you let me in?”
I stumbled backwards. “I don’t know if you want to accept me. I’m not what you want or what you need. Your pack will never accept it. I should just leave; it’s safer.”
Don’t be an i***t! Kiiya growled.
I felt Rex grab my wrist and pull me to his body. One hand gripped my waist and the other tilted my chin to look up at his face. “Don’t ever say that. You came here because you knew it wasn’t safe and you found me.” Rex was searching my face for some kind of response. “Please stay. I want to get to know you. I want to protect you and make you feel safe. Please.”
Please stay. Kiiya whined.
I nodded slowly. “I’ll stay, but all of my personal things were at my apartment in the human territory. I can’t go back there so I don’t have any clothes or anything really.”
Rex grew the biggest and brightest smile on his face. “I can fix that. My older sister might have some clothes. I’ll grab some from her. You can stay here as long as you like.” He grabbed my hand and dragged me out of his office to a room further down the hall.
He opened the door to reveal yet another beautiful room. A queen size bed was in the middle with dark colored bed spreads, a wooden trunk at the foot of the bed, and a large TV hung directly on the wall across from it with a cherrywood dresser underneath. An elk skin was used as a rug. A small couch rested underneath another bay window and a glass coffee table sat in front of it. The bathroom door was open and on the other side of the TV was the closet door.
“The space is yours and you can fill the closet and dresser with whatever you like. Should you choose to stay in a room with me, we’ll move everything no problem.” Rex began.
“This is all so much. I haven’t had this much space since-“ I stopped myself before I revealed too much. Rex didn’t recognize my last name and I intend to keep it that way for a bit.
“It’s okay, whenever you’re ready. Tomorrow, I’ll introduce you to some of the high ranking members that live here and we can get you a cellphone as well. In the meantime, there’s a phone on the nightstand you can use to call my room anytime, just dial 501.” Rex had his hand on the doorknob ready to close it as soon as he left. But he stopped. “Alina?”
I turned away from the bed spread and looked at him. “Yeah?”
“Thank you for staying.” He sent me a wink before he left the room and shut the door.
