ALINA Rex pulled out a chair for me and sat down next to me on the other side of the kitchen island. He was being so nice to me and I was letting my guard down. I had to be careful of that. I get the feeling he knows who I really am, but he hasn’t said anything about it. “Are you hungry?” He asked. My stomach growled in response. “Starving.” “Great. We’re making pancakes!” Rachel went back to the stovetop with Andy. “So, what did you want to do today?” I asked Rex. I turned to look at him and caught him staring, again. “Eliza and Rachel are going to come with us to the mall to help you pick out some new clothes and I’ll get you a cellphone. We can just take it easy today. Is that okay?” Rex set his hand on my knee and gave me a small smile. “Sounds perfect.” I placed my own hand on top of his and gave it a squeeze. “Order up!” Rachel and Andy turned and slid a plate of a towering stack of pancakes across the counter. “That is a lot of pancakes.” My eyes were bigger than my stomach. Rex snickered next to me. “Don’t worry, whatever you don’t eat I will.” “Perfect because this is a lot.” My stomach still growled. I stabbed into the pancakes with my fork and shoved my mouth full of breakfast. “How is it?” Eliza asked. She had a bottled smoothie in her hands. “Mmm mmm mmm.” No one understand anything I said. I don’t think I did. Everyone laughed, which brought a smile to my face. REX “I think that means it’s delicious.” I translated. After breakfast, I led Alina and the girls out to the front driveway where a black Chevy Tahoe was waiting. “I call driving!” Rachel snatched the keys from my hands and raced to the driver’s seat. Alina reached for my hand and squeezed it tight. Sparks shot up my arm like electricity. Our bond was strengthening. “I haven’t been in a car in a very long time. I used to walk to work.” “I’ll sit right next to you.” I whispered in her ear. She shivered at my near touch and she leaned into my body as I opened the back door for her. She climbed into the middle seat and I took the window. “Do you want me to buckle you in?” I joked. “Very funny. I can do it myself.” She rolled her eyes at me as heat rushed to her cheeks. Alina pulled the seatbelt across her chest and buckled herself in. “It’s a long ride into town, Alina. Get comfortable.” Rachel snickered as she put the truck into drive. ALINA Rex and I sat in the back as Rachel started to drive out of the territory. I couldn’t help but notice how unbelievably close I am to Rex. I knew he loved being this close to me and frankly, I was starting to enjoy it as well. I was still afraid how he would react once he found out who I really was. Would he still want to be with me? Would he still choose to protect me? I put his pack in danger by coming here. Will they even accept me? They’ll have to. Kiiya said. Ugh, she’s right. My parents used to say that a good Alpha would accept anybody for who they are and would always do what’s best for their pack. I just hope that I’m what’s right for his pack. I was beginning to get drowsy and soon found myself dozing on Rex’s shoulder.
