Alena Danendra is a cheerful, stubborn woman who never knows the meaning of giving up. Behind her sweet smile lies a sincere obsession to conquer the heart of Reynard Vance—a cruel, cold, and most feared mafia boss in the capital who is notoriously immune to love. Ever since their first meeting, Alena has chased Reynard wherever he goes. She comes armed with a million sweet-talks, homemade food, and openly declares her undying love for him. However, the response she receives is always the same: a murderous glare, rough dismissal, and flat-out rejection. Reynard considers Alena nothing more than a foolish nuisance threatening the safety of his dark world.Despite being chased away repeatedly, threatened at gunpoint, and having her life nearly flash before her eyes in the middle of enemy crossfire, Alena never backs down. To her, her love has crossed the boundaries of logic; she is ready to die just to prove her sincerity. Alena's steadfast heart slowly begins to shake the wall of ice in Reynard's chest. The mafia boss, accustomed to a life of blood and betrayal, is now faced with the biggest dilemma: upholding the principles of his cruel world, or surrendering to a foolish woman willing to die for love.

The Shadows
The night air in Manhattan felt piercingly cold, carrying a drizzle of autumn rain that began to dampen the slick asphalt around the Meatpacking District. Behind the steering wheel of his sleek black luxury sedan, Reynard Vance leaned his back against the seat with his eyes tightly closed. The scent of dark, bitter coffee and expensive tobacco blended within the silent cabin. To the New York underworld, the name Reynard Vance was a synonym for terror. He was the leader of the most influential mafia syndicate, a cold man who knew neither mercy, compassion, nor love. However, the pseudo-peace inside his car was suddenly interrupted by a series of heavy knocks against the driver’s side window. Reynard opened his eyes, revealing dark gray irises that radiated a murderous aura. He slowly turned his head, and his jaw instantly tightened as he saw the figure standing out there without an umbrella. Alena Miller. The woman stood in the middle of the pouring rain, wearing a wet maroon winter coat. Her long, curly hair clung to the sides of her face, yet she still beamed broadly, waving her hand as if she weren't standing in the restricted zone of a mafia stronghold. In her hands, she held up a paper bag from a famous Brooklyn bakery. Reynard took a deep breath, trying to curb the surge of anger in his chest. This was already the fifteenth consecutive day the woman had followed him. With a swift movement, Reynard rolled down his car window by a few centimeters. The chilly air rushed in immediately, accompanied by the muffled sounds of the rain. "What is it now, Miss Miller?" Reynard’s voice came out low, heavy, and laced with a threat capable of making anyone tremble with fear. "If you aren't gone from my sight within three seconds, I'll have my bodyguard drag you into this car and dump you in the Hudson River." Alena didn't intimidate easily. Instead, she leaned her face closer to the window gap, ignoring the man's sharp glare. "Hello to you too, Mr. Vance! I knew the weather was terrible, so I brought you a warm cinnamon roll and a hazelnut chocolate coffee made by my own hands. You skipped your dinner at the restaurant earlier, and I wouldn't want my favorite mafia boss getting a stomach ulcer." Reynard widened his eyes for a second, feeling his blood boil with annoyance. "Favorite boss? Are you out of your mind? I'm not your boss, I'm not your boyfriend, and I don't want your cheap food! Get out of here right now!" "I'm not going anywhere until you accept this!" Alena insisted, thrusting the paper bag through the glass gap. "You can chase me away a thousand times, Reynard. You can look at me as if you want to murder me. But I know deep down inside, you're just a lonely man hiding his fragile side behind an expensive suit and a gun." Reynard growled under his breath. The veins on his temples throbbed. The patience he had maintained for so long shattered instantly. He pressed the automatic button to lower the entire car window, then grabbed the collar of Alena's coat with one muscular hand, pulling her close until their faces were only centimeters apart. "Listen to me very carefully, you foolish woman," Reynard hissed right in front of Alena's face, his voice trembling with pure anger. "The world I live in is filled with blood, betrayal, and bullets. People like you don't belong here. One more step closer to me, and your life is on the line. Don't you have any fear at all?!" Alena looked straight into Reynard's gray eyes. Her heart beat rapidly—not out of fear, but because of the intense physical proximity between them. Instead of pulling away, Alena's free hand slowly lifted, gently touching Reynard's cheek, which was wet from the remaining rain splashes. The man's skin felt cold, contrasting with his burning gaze. "I'm afraid of dying, Reynard," Alena whispered softly, yet her voice sounded entirely sincere amid the roar of the rain. "But I'm far more afraid of living a life without ever trying to win your heart. Go ahead and threaten me all you want, shoot me if it makes you satisfied. But I will never give up." Reynard froze. That small touch on his cheek delivered a strange jolt he had never felt in his entire life. For years, everyone who approached him either trembled with fear or plotted to stab him in the back. Never once had a human being looked into his eyes with such unwavering warmth. Realizing his guard was slipping, Reynard quickly shoved Alena's hand away roughly. He pushed her back until she nearly slipped on the slick pavement. "You're truly a madwoman," Reynard sneered coldly, trying to rebuild his defensive wall. He rolled up the car window quickly, locked the doors, and turned to his bodyguard in the front passenger seat. "Drive. Leave her here." The luxury car immediately sped off, cutting through the wet New York streets, leaving a splash of water that hit Alena's shoes. Inside the car, Reynard leaned his head back against the seat. His heart was beating much faster than normal. He glanced briefly at the rearview mirror, seeing Alena's figure still standing beneath the streetlamp, clutching her paper bag tightly and waving as if she had just received a romantic farewell kiss. Reynard turned away, grunting softly as he closed his eyes. Yet, beneath his usual blank expression, the corners of his lips twitched into a hidden, subtle smirk. For the first time in his life, the ice fortress of the mafia began to experience a tiny crack created by a stubborn woman named Alena Miller.
