The Man Behind the Threat

Scarlett – POV The man sitting at the corner café table wasn’t a stranger. He was a mistake. Derek Voss. The ex who left scars too deep for time to erase. The man who gaslighted her into silence, humiliated her in front of her own friends, and walked away with a smirk when her world shattered. And now… He sat sipping black coffee like he hadn’t sent her that vile message the night before. Scarlett’s hand clenched the edge of the table. “You’ve got nerve showing up,” she said coldly. Derek leaned back, smug. “Figured it was time to congratulate you. I mean… you’ve upgraded. Married a billionaire. Pregnant. All that domestic glory.” Her fingers twitched. He smirked. “I always knew you were good at playing victim.” “You’re not going to get to me,” she said, her voice low, tight. “Not anymore.” “Oh, but I already did. You called this meeting, didn’t you?” “I wanted to know how low you’ve sunk.” Derek leaned in, eyes flashing. “Don’t pretend you’re untouchable now just because some cold-hearted corporate wolf knocked you up.” Before she could react— A shadow fell over the table. Tall. Dangerous. Familiar. Dominic. --- Dominic – POV He hadn’t followed her. He’d tracked her. Because he knew her well enough to sense when she was hiding something. And the second she left without explanation, something primal kicked in. So he tailed her silently. And when he saw her sitting across from that bastard—with fear in her eyes and venom in the man’s voice—he didn’t hesitate. He stepped beside her, dark and deadly calm. “Scarlett,” he said evenly, “you didn’t tell me we had company.” Her eyes widened slightly. She hadn’t expected him. Derek, for the first time, looked nervous. Dominic smiled. The kind of smile wolves give before they bite. “I’m Dominic Blackthorn,” he said, voice steel. “And if you ever send my wife another message again, I will rip your existence from every database and bury your reputation so deep, not even your shadow will recognize you.” Derek opened his mouth. Dominic leaned forward. “Go ahead. Try me.” Silence. Then Derek stood abruptly, muttered something unintelligible, and walked away. Dominic watched him go. Then turned to Scarlett. And saw the tears she wasn’t letting fall. --- Scarlett – POV She didn’t want him to see her like this. Not after all her bravado. Not after standing up to Derek. But Dominic was already pulling her into his arms. And her body didn’t resist. She melted into his warmth, her fists clenching his shirt. “He doesn’t matter,” Dominic whispered. “I hate that I still shake.” He held her tighter. “You’re not weak.” She didn’t reply. He kissed the top of her head, then guided her toward the car. And said nothing the entire ride back. But his silence screamed war. --- Dominic – POV He should’ve torn Derek’s throat out right there on the street. But no. That would’ve been too merciful. Now, Dominic was going to destroy him in a different way. Silently. Legally. Irreversibly. But first, there was Scarlett. And the way she curled into the corner of the passenger seat, arms crossed over her chest, gaze out the window, lips tight. He pulled into the private garage under his penthouse. Killed the engine. She didn’t move. “Come here.” She didn’t look at him. “I said—come here.” She turned, eyes narrowed. “You don’t order me around—” But she didn’t finish the sentence. Because he was already out of the car, walking around, opening her door, and lifting her out like she weighed nothing. She gasped. “Dominic—what the hell—” He slammed the car door shut with his elbow and walked toward the elevator with her in his arms. “You don’t get to face things alone anymore,” he said. --- Scarlett – POV The moment they stepped into the penthouse, something shifted. She was still burning from Derek’s words. Still fighting tears. Still ashamed that a part of her past could unravel her so quickly. Dominic didn’t speak. He set her down in the middle of the living room. And stared at her. His eyes were dark. Unreadable. Possessive. “I’m not fragile,” she snapped. “You think this is about fragility?” He took a slow step forward. “You didn’t call me.” “I didn’t need saving.” “You needed someone to remind him who you are now.” “And what am I?” Another step. He was close now. Towering over her. Hands clenched at his sides. “You’re mine.” --- Dominic – POV His mouth crashed onto hers before she could answer. He kissed her with every ounce of fury he hadn’t unleashed on Derek. With every wave of protectiveness he hadn’t been able to voice. With every part of him that couldn’t lose her. Scarlett gasped against his lips, but she didn’t pull away. She kissed him back. Harder. Faster. Desperate. And when he pinned her to the hallway wall, she whimpered into his mouth. “Dominic—ah—wait—” “No more waiting.” He lifted her. Her legs wrapped around his waist instantly. Her dress bunched up around her hips. He slid inside her in one slow, claiming thrust. She cried out. “Say it,” he growled. “Hah—yours—Dominic, I’m yours—” --- Scarlett – POV She couldn’t think. Couldn’t speak. His body pinned her to the wall, powerful and relentless. His thrusts deep, hard, possessive. She wrapped her arms around his neck, burying her moans into his shoulder. Every movement, every kiss, every growl told her what he didn’t say. He was angry. Not at her. For her. He kissed her collarbone, biting gently until she gasped again. “Never hide from me again,” he breathed. She nodded, trembling. “You feel that?” he whispered. “Yes—God—Dominic—” “That’s what safety feels like.” She came undone in his arms. And as he followed, burying his face in her neck, she swore she felt something different in the way he held her. Not just lust. Not just power. But love— Unspoken. But there. --- Later That Night She lay on the bed, tangled in his arms. Dominic brushed her hair from her face, silent. She finally whispered, “You’re not just protecting me, are you?” He didn’t answer. But he kissed her forehead with more gentleness than she’d ever known him capable of. And she smiled. Because he didn’t need to say it. She already knew.
