Prologue
Panting heavily, Lyanna ran through the thick dark woods. Branches tore at her clothing as she ran. Her body screamed at her to stop and rest. Her lungs burned as though they were on fire from within her own body. Her legs continued to move by sheer force of will alone. She didn’t have a choice but to push her body past its limits. She had to get away if she wanted a chance to live.
She had taken a weapon from the cabin but in one on one combat she knew he would win. He was too strong for her to overcome. Her only chance at life was to run as fast and far as possible. At any moment, her captor might catch up to her and force her back into that dreadfully tiny attic room.
The timing of her escape was perfect. He should be gone at least overnight, but there was no guarantee when he would return. Lyanna had to push herself harder than ever to reach sanctuary before he could discover that she was missing. Lyanna couldn’t risk wasting even a second of her hard-won freedom. She refused to go back even if it killed her.
