LIAM’S POV
I long to be near her, but it seems since that night that her fiancée is always by her side. It has made it next to impossible to get near her. Some days though, I will catch him staring out at the forest like he knows that I am watching. I have been incredibly careful not to be seen, and I don’t think he has.
It is tearing out my heart watching him to be near her and holding her. The only person who should have their hands on her is mine. Every time I see him, my wolf is ready to break free and attack. It takes every ounce of me to control my wolf.
As her wedding approaches, I find my chances of bonding with my mate slowly slipping away. I can’t miss this opportunity to be with her and to fully and completely love her with every piece of me.
Every part of me feels my love and need for her, and as I am near her so does the un-controlling want. I need to open her heart to see me as hers as well.
Today will be my chance though. I have a plan.
AVA’S POV
Today is going to be one of those days, I think to myself. The clinic has been busy for most of the day, and I have not had an opportunity to take a moment to myself. We finally have a moment of break before the next patients arrive, so I stop by the front desk and let Nancy know that I am going to take a lunch break and will be back shortly.
Actually, it will be more like a quick coffee break at the coffee house across the street than an actual lunch break. I don’t have too much time today so sit down and enjoy lunch. Too much to get done and plenty of patients to see today.
As I cross the street and head into the coffee house, I feel a warmth fill within me. At that moment, I know that he is here. The stranger. I still can’t explain why he makes my body feel the way it does, but I ignore the feeling as I make my way to the counter.
I am rummaging through my purse to pull out my money as I hear a smooth, clear voice ask me what I would like to order. I look up as I ask for a caramel macchiato and I am startled by the man in front of me. It is startling to see this handsome gentleman before me. When did my stranger begin working here?
Why does this guy have to be here? And more importantly, why does he make me feel this way? So, his name is Liam. My mind begins to feel frazzled as I try to figure everything out. I don’t even notice when he is handing me my coffee.
“Miss, your caramel macchiato,” he says as he reached across the counter to hand me my drink.
As he hands me my drink, my hand unintentionally slides against his, I feel a sudden electrical charge radiate throughout me. My body feels pulled into his and it takes a lot out of me to remove my hand from his.
“Thank you,” I say as I quickly grab and pull my coffee towards me. Of course, just my luck I jerked the coffee too quickly towards myself and spilled it all over me burning myself.
“Oh, let me help you,” I hear him say as he quickly rushes from behind the counter toward me.
I know that it is dangerous for me to be near him, as I fear that I may be tempted toward him. I tell that it is okay about the mess on me as I rush out of the coffee house as quickly as I possibly can leaving behind any opportunity of having a coffee before I head back to the clinic.
“You’re back quickly today,” I hear from Nancy as I walk in through the door before she notices my mess all over me. “Oh dear, what happened to you.”
“Just my lucky day,” I reply indifferently.
As I head back to my office, I hear the front door open and I casually turn around to make sure it’s not a patient. I don’t want anybody to see me looking like through this.
Before I notice him, my body reacts as it seems to always do when I am around him and I know just who it is. My face starts to flush and I feel embarrassed at not only my clumsiness, but my appearance as well at this moment.
I rush back to my office quickly before he has a chance to say anything where I, thankfully, have a change of clothes.
LIAM’S POV
Where is she heading, I think to myself. It’s almost like she has an opposite reaction to my bond. Every time I come in the room, she immediately disappears.
“Ma’am, is Dr. Jameson available?”
“Yes. Do you have an appointment?”
“No, I’m actually not here to see her as a patient. She just stopped in across the street and I was hoping to deliver her a caramel macchiato. She had a bit of a mishap.”
“That is very kind of you. I can bring it back to her if you would like.”
“Oh, it’s really no bother. I would actually like to apologize to her for the spill if you don’t mind.”
“Of course sir, let me go grab her for you.”
So not only is my mate beautiful, but she is a doctor as well. The more I get to know about her, the more I admire her and want to know more about her.
As I turn around, I see her waiting for me at the front desk. Even with her exhaustive demeaner, she still looks strikingly beautiful. Her chestnut brown hair, pulled away from her face and showing her full luscious lips and beautiful blue eyes.
“You really didn’t have to bring me my drink,” she states as she adjusts her position on the counter moving closer to me.
“I felt bad for the spill and I am sorry for moving it towards you too quickly. I was a bit distracted.” Of course I can’t tell her that I was feeling frazzled upon seeing her again.
“It really was my fault, but thank you so much for your generosity. It’s been a really busy day, so I probably did need a little caffeine.”
“If you would like, I wouldn’t mind treating you to some coffee cake with a cup of coffee after work tonight, my treat?” I respond back casually, trying not to show my anxiety in hoping to spend more time with her.
“I probably shouldn’t…” she starts to stutter out. “I…uh…. well I have a fiancé.”
Although, I knew this, the words of hearing of her fiancé still stung and was hard for me to take in.
“It’s not a date, just a drink between friends.”
“I guess, maybe one won’t hurt. I could probably use another drink anyways. Fine….I’ll meet you at the coffee shop. See you then.”
“Fantastic, I’ll see you this evening.”
I feel so ecstatic that she has agreed. It may be a small step, but at least she will be with me.
