Bedroom locked
Windows locked
Drapes drawn.
I checked again for the tenth time, before I stepped into the shower to clean myself up, this was a huge mistake and in the morning everyone would know that someone killed him.
The rumors would begin.
I could not sleep all night, when a knock filled my house, I felt like my heart was about to step out of my heart when I glanced at the door, my mind filled with fear as I reached for the door.
“Bella it’s me.” I heard a familiar voice and I wiped the tears that fell against my cheek.
“What are you doing here?”
“Geez Bella I came to check up on you, that’s what good friends do since you can’t check up on me or what I do.” Beth smiled and I rolled my eyes at her as she settled on the couch.
“I am just a bit paranoid.”
“That boss of yours needs to start giving you a lot of breaks Bella, it doesn’t make sense you are working all of the time.” Beth said. “Are you not meant to be at work.”
“I am giving myself a little break, look at me, I need sleep.” I laughed, I badly needed someone to be here and she has not mentioned the dead body, didn’t she see while coming here, or at least see the cops around the place.
I didn’t dare ask.
I watched as she started to blabber about how she hates my work when I looked away from her.
“I came here for a reason and, tomorrow is the engagement party and I don’t want to listen to any excuses, I came to make sure that your dress is good and everything is ready.”
“I promised you I will be there and I intend on keeping that promise.” I smiled. “Is Cole okay with me coming?.”
“He suggested you come.” She said with a smile on her face. “Come on, show me your dress.” She smiled and I nodded as I reached out of the couch and headed into my room.
—
It’s a blue strapless dress that I thought would look good on me, it came with white shoes and a bag that is a bit too much.
I can’t believe I am dressing up to attend my ex- boyfriend wedding with my best friend, I think I am okay with it, she is happy and that’s all that matters.
“I think you should wear your hair up and make sure that you look great. Get rid of all of that eye bags, you are going to be sleeping all day.” She said and I smiled.
I was about to speak when we heard the bell ring.
“I am not expecting anyone.” I breathed out when I reached off the door, a man stood by it, he held a pot of flowers and a card, without saying a word he handed it over to me.
“Do you have a boyfriend and you are not telling me about him.” She asked with a smile on her face. She quickly took the card away.
“Give it back Beth.” I yelled and she rolled her eyes at me.
What if it’s from him or any of them.
“I am coming Isabella.” Beth sang. “It doesn’t say from who or coming to where, oh he is coming to meet you, and he wants you to get ready for him:” she smiled. “You are bringing him to the engagement tomorrow and I don’t want to hear anything about it.” She smiled.
“I will.” I lied, my mind too hazed with the contents of the letter.
What did that mean?
He is coming.
It’s not signed and it’s a man in a suit that delivered it.
Shit.
——
Beth left after an hour of talking about how she wanted to see my secret boyfriend, I would have to find an excuse on to why he is not coming tomorrow.
I headed toward my window and my eyes peered out of it, there are no ambulance or police cars, no one is even standing outside.
I killed him some feet away from the building, how did anyone not see that? Is he still alive?
Is he the one that sent this? Will he come for me?
I didn’t leave my house for the rest of the day. I locked everything yet again and I settled in the living room where I can get some sleep.
Knock
Knock
Knock
I jolted up from my sleep, my mind filled with thoughts when I glanced at the clock, its two in the morning. I slept all through the days and night.
The sound of the knock caused me to look at the door again, I didn’t dare go close to it or even ask who it was.
I don’t have any friends, I don’t speak to my neighbors unless I have to and it’s always been like that, no one can knock on my door by this hour without a reason.
The knock was constant, and it didn’t stop, my breath hitches when I reached out out for a vase, the thought of that man barging into my house filled my mind.
He is not going to let me go this time, he is going to make me pay.
My mind hazed with thoughts when I saw the door knob twisting.
“Don’t.” I yelled and I didn’t get any reply. My throat starting to close up as I was about to yell help.
I had thought I got gotten over my fear yet it seemed like I have not, my body felt warm as I stared at the door and I remained on my chair was if I was glued to it.
This is what fear does to me.
“You need to stand up and run Bella.” I whispered against my breath, my mind filled with thoughts as I glanced at the door and it opened.
Fuck.
