A Dark Paranormal RomanceA triangle has three sides. A trapezium has four — and not one of them is equal. The world believes vampires are extinct. Three centuries ago, an alliance of witches, werewolves, warlocks, and seelies wiped the species out for good — or so every record, every history lesson, every quiet certainty in the city of Nocthaven insists. Nobody is looking for a monster that isn’t supposed to exist anymore. That’s exactly how he’s stayed hidden for three hundred years.Sera Duskryn was never supposed to be whole. Born with a witch’s blood dominant over a seelie bloodline buried so deep even she doesn’t know it’s there, she’s spent her life being called powerful and unstable in the same breath — until the impossible happens, and she becomes the first White Witch in recorded history, a rank witnessed only in the visions of long-dead elders and dismissed as myth. Ronin Ashworth is the soul she’s been bonded to since childhood — not by blood, but by something older, stranger, and, they will learn, far more dangerous than either of them understood. He is climbing power at a rate his own pack elders can’t explain, and the reason has everything to do with her. They call each other brother and sister. They have for over a decade. It has never once felt like a lie — until it does, and by then, it’s already too late to take back what they’ve done about it.As Alaric Fenmoor, the pack’s most overlooked warlock, rises into a strength that will one day make him Eldest, and Nyxara Voss fights to hold her demon and vampire natures in the same body without either one consuming her, an ancient evil begins closing in — the last full-blooded vampire alive, patient beyond comprehension, rebuilding his bloodline in silence and waiting for exactly this kind of entanglement to ripen. When two human investigators get close enough to the truth to become targets themselves, the four of them stop being the only ones with something to lose.Four sides. Four hearts. A love the law forbids, a secret that should have stayed buried, and a trap three hundred years in the making.Nobody escapes a shape with no equal sides.Want me to update the story bible file with this version in place of the original blurb, or keep both on record?

PROLOGUE
Four sides. Four hearts. One trap nobody can escape. The rain over Nocthaven didn’t fall so much as hesitate — like even the sky knew better than to come down on what was happening on the rooftop of the old cathedral spire, and did it anyway. Sera was on her knees in it. Not from weakness. From the sheer weight of what she’d just felt come loose inside her chest, a thread she hadn’t known was load-bearing until it snapped. Brother. She’d called him that for eleven years. Whispered it in the dark when the nightmares came. Screamed it once, when she thought he was dying. It had never once felt like a lie until an hour ago, when it became one retroactively — every memory she owned re-writing itself in real time, the way a photograph left too long in the sun doesn’t fade so much as confess what it was hiding underneath. Ronin stood over her, soaked to the bone, hands shaking — not from the cold. His claws hadn’t retracted. They wouldn’t, not while his blood was running this hot, not while the wolf in him was howling the same word her chest was screaming: wrong, wrong, this was never supposed to be wrong. “Say something,” he said. His voice had gone rough in a way that had nothing to do with the moon. “What is there to say?” Sera didn’t look up. “We slept in the same bed until we were seventeen, Ronin. I know the sound you make when you’re barely awake. I know what your hands look like when they’re gentle. I know—” her voice cracked clean down the middle “—I know all of you. And apparently I was never supposed to.” Behind them, half in shadow, Nyx hadn’t moved from the stairwell doorway in almost a full minute — which for her was an eternity, her body a live current at the best of times, worse now with the ache under her ribs that never fully went away, the hunger she refused to feed. She wasn’t looking at Sera. She was looking at Ronin, and there was something in her expression that wasn’t jealousy, exactly. Closer to recognition. Closer to of course. “You knew,” Ronin said, without turning. “I suspected.” Nyx’s voice was flat, careful, the way she got when she was holding something down. “Mana doesn’t lie, even when people do. Yours and hers have been tangled since before I met either of you. I thought it was the sibling bond. I didn’t think—” she stopped herself. “Say it,” Sera said quietly. “I didn’t think the bond was the disguise.” Alaric arrived last, breath ragged from four flights of stairs he’d taken two at a time, and he didn’t say anything at all. He didn’t need to. He’d read this exact configuration in every one of their faces the moment he stepped through the door — the particular geometry of four people standing at four unequal distances from a truth none of them had asked for. He’d spent a year learning to read minds before he learned it was crueler, sometimes, to read a room instead and say nothing. Because here was the truth none of the four of them wanted to hold yet, standing there in the rain on a rooftop that legally didn’t exist on any Institute blueprint: The bond between Sera and Ronin hadn’t broken. That was the horror of it. It had simply revealed what it had been feeding on the entire time — a hunger dressed as devotion, love wearing the one disguise that let it hide in plain sight for over a decade, safe, untouchable, sanctioned, right up until it wasn’t. And somewhere beneath all of Nocthaven, in a court that had waited longer than any of them had been alive, an old and patient thing was already smiling — because a bond that fractures from the inside is so much easier to bend than one that never had a c***k in it at all. Sera finally looked up. Rain in her lashes. Something in her eyes that hadn’t been there an hour ago — not quite grief, not quite want, some third thing with no name yet. “We can’t,” she said. To him. To herself. To all four of them, maybe. Ronin knelt in front of her, slow, deliberate, close enough that neither of them was pretending anymore. “I know,” he said. Neither of them moved away.
