Abdulaziz
I was coming back from China earlier than expected because baba kept calling me to come back as soon as I finished the contract signing. I just walked out from the Nnamdi azikwe airport when I saw Sunday the driver waiting outside for me,I entered the car feeling exhausted and so hungry.
“oga you Don come back” Sunday’s chatty self tries to strike up a conversation with me
“yes Sunday it was a really long and tiring trip” I Reply shortly
“eyya take heart, we don reach house fast fast” he tried to console me
“thank you “

Arriving at home I decided to enter through the back door which was close to the kitchen, I walked in just to see my mom with a smile which seem to melt my stress away
“Welcome back my son” she hugged me close to her
“mama I’m really tired and I miss your food. I got tired of eating Chinese food.” I complained
“you look so skinny, don't tell me you've just been working without resting or eating well?” She scolded me
“no I eat when I get the chance and now that I’m home I have all the time to do so”
As we were conversing ya Maria came in glaring at me.
“what are you doing here? Oh don't tell me your husband got tired of you and decided to send you back home.” I joked sneering
“you wish, for your information he traveled that's the only reason I’m here” she rolled her eyes outing
“your sister is 2 months pregnant that's one of the reason she's here.” Mama exposed her
“mama you promised not to say anything about that to him.” A blush coated her cheeks
“oh my god I can't believe it, you guys have been married for just 5 months and you’re two months pregnant.” I kept teasing her until I was sure she was annoyed, teasing her made my day.
I took a hot bath, prayed and ate. I felt so relaxed and contented. I was about to switch the TV on when those two troublesome girls came in.
“yaya I heard you were back what did you get me??” Yasmin interrogated me
“yeah what of mine ?” Ikram assessed the room trying to find her gift
Yasmin was 19 while ikram was 17, they were a handful.
“I've not unpacked but when I do I promise to give you your gifts”
“ok but baba wants to speak with you?” Ikram interjected
“really? Why didn't you tell me as soon as you came in?” I asked them raising my eyebrow
“our presents duh!” Yasmin whined
I stood up and hurried downstairs with the girls in tow, I forgot to go say my greetings to baba I'm so toast I thought. As i went into the living room I found him sitting on a couch opposite the TV, he was shaking his left leg a habit of his when he got serious. I turned to look at mama and I could tell by her expression that something was up,something I didn't know of. I sat down on the carpet and....
“Good afternoon dad”
“Look at the time young man we’re way past that, how was your trip?” His hard voice cut me short
“It went well, I sorted everything out”
“That’s good, I know you came back earlier than expected because of me but there's a good reason. You know my friend alhaji Mohammed Yusuf right?” He questioned out of the blue
“yes I know him, Abba if it's about me not getting married I have someone I told you that. after this project of mine I'll get married cause I’m sure you’re going to say you want my wedding to be on the same day as theirs but I have to finish work first “
“no that's not it, I've decided that you and his daughter suhaiba are getting married.” He replied short and quick not beating around the bush
“what? But abba I have someone else.” I remind him
“you know for the longest time I didn't approve of that girl, her father is a vicious man. So I will like it if you end things with her as fast as you can. I'll also appreciate it if you don't argue with me on this situation because I've made up my mind.” He says cold and serious
“ok Abba if that's what you want, so be it” I reply shortly
“that's better, don't think we're doing this because we don't want you to be happy. we're actually doing this because we want the best for you that's all. as your parents I think we have the right to make this kind of decision for you.” Mommy comforts me in a way
“yes you’re right, I’m sorry for acting stubborn” I apologized half hearted
“it's okay, just take things easy” my dad pat my shoulder
I stood up and walked straight to my room, I felt so depressed, Ive been dating Hadiza for 5 years and for me to tell her that I’m getting married with someone else is going to be a huge blow to her. ya Maria came into my room, from her face I could tell she heard about what transpired
“Abdulaziz are you OK??” Her soft voice asked me
“I don't know this, is just too sudden. what am I going to tell hadiza?” I turn to get feeling lost
“yeah that's what I was thinking of as well” she bit her lips staring the wall in front of her
“she kept telling me her parents were pestering her to bring a husband candidate forward, I refused convincing her after my project we’ll cross that bridge. I wish I listened.” My heart just just thinking of bringing pain to her,I was really sad I mean what am I going to tell her?
“she won't take it well hearing it from you you, how about I go see her tomorrow and tell her?” Ya Maria suggested
“really you'd do that?”
“yeah don't worry I'll visit her home tomorrow and break the bad news, if she has a message or reply I'll deliver it to you.” She rubs my back in a soothing motion
“thank you ya Maria you have no idea how much this means to me.”
“don't worry I'll always be here for you.” She comforts me with a smile
Ya Maria really saved me this time but I was still feeling depressed, it didn't change the fact that I was marrying someone I've never seen before, God help me!!!

Ya Maria left for hadiza's house 2 hours ago, I wasn't at rest,I couldn't sit still I kept pacing. Then I heard it, ya Maria’s voice...
“so how did it go?” I asked okaying with my fingers
“she didn't take it well but, she asked to see you for the last time.” She offers a smile to me
“OK I'll go see her tonight ASAP”
“by the way we will be going to see your bride tomorrow, something treks me you’re not mentally prepared or that.”
“I’m not going! Not things are falling apart for me” I screamed feeling frustrated
“I’m not saying you have to, you’re not coming in the first place. rest a bit before you go see hadiza.” She advised walking out of my tool and closing the door behind her
