SEREFINA

A bright and sunny Monday morning at Silver High. Serefina stood outside the school gate, her golden eyes shone in the sun and her black hair was hanging off her shoulders. She wore a white shirt with the school's logo embedded on the left breast pocket with a short red flowing skirt. A pair of grey lap socks on her long thin legs and black shoes to match. She adjusted her school bag and walked confidently into the school premises. Serefina stood in front of the main building and looked around at the noisy environment because all other students had also resumed the same day. There was the sports arena to her right and the multipurpose hall to her left. At the back of the main building was a vast area of green plants, where the students have their practicals. It was a magical school in a magical land, Dominic, a land far, far away in another realm. Serefina was a bender, a fire bender and Dominic had just one school for all the four elements: Fire, water, Air and Earth. Serefina stopped when a girl with brown eyes and blonde hair bumped into her, " Can't you watch where you're going?", the blonde girl asked. " You're the one who bumped into me", Serefina defended. " You would have spoilt my school bag", the blonde girl replied rather annoyed, " and you aren't even sorry about it?!" She yelled, Serefina rolled her eyes. Her name was Alinta, she had a small nose with beautiful round eyes and was about the same height as Serefina. Her tall figure was decorated with hair extensions on her head, false lashes on her eyes, overdone makeup on her face and long acrylic nails painted in a flashy shade of pink. The bag she protected was made of high quality materials and had real diamonds stuck on it, her parents were the Royal Advisors to the King and Queen of Dominic. She removed her bag and waved it in front of Serefina, " I don't blame you, you can't identify an expensive item when you see one. So if you would excuse me, your face is clashing with the colour of my lipstick". " Or your bag is clashing with your brain!" Serefina spat back angrily. " How rude! you're just jealous of my school bag!" Alinta replied still holding her school bag. By now students had gathered around them. Serefina got angry and within a few seconds, Alinta's bag was in ashes. She was a fire bender after all! " There, you happy now?!", Serefina asked mockingly. Alinta was in shock Serefina made her way to a nearby bench. She brought out a book from her bag and started reading it. "Hi there" , " crazy what you did back there huh?". Serefina looked up from the book she was reading and her eyes met with the most beautiful set of sapphire blue eyes she has ever seen. " Not as crazy as what I'll do to you if you disturb my peace", she replied. " I'm Aidan", Aidan introduced himself. " Serefina", she said as she continued reading her book. " Mind if I join you?", he asked. He wore a white shirt and a grey vest with red tie and red pants. He had a pair of grey socks and black shoes on. "If you want to", she replied without looking at him. He sat beside her quietly. " So you're a fire bender?", Aidan asked finally breaking the silence. " Yes", she replied curtly and the bell rang. She packed her bag swiftly and made her way to the hall, leaving Aidan behind. Serefina sat down quietly waiting for her name to be called for assessment along with some other students. " Serefina Adamos" a voice called over the speakers. She stood up and walked towards the large double brown doors. There was a small stage at the center of the room behind the doors and opposite the stage was a table. At the table, the Head mistress, Miss Bedelia, her assistant Mr Barnette and the head of the departments of all four elements. Serefina climbed on to the stage and stood a few feet away from a candle. She looked at them one by one, she wasn't afraid. " Serefina, please light the candle", Miss Bedelia said. She looked around her fifties and wore a pair of glasses. She had her brown hair tied to a bun. Serefina clicked her fingers and immediately, the candle was lit with purple flames. Everyone's eyes grew wide in shock but Serefina wasn't moved, she knew the reason they were surprised. Just as she was about to leave, Miss Bedelia asked her to wait after all other students have been assessed. She had waited hours and only a few students were left, as always, she was alone. She got bored and started to play around with her powers. She made a little purple flame on her palm and watched as the fire danced about on her palm. Just then, water splashed on her palm, extinguishing the flame. " Sorry, I didn't mean to", A girl apologised. She had blue hair and striking pair of silver eyes, she wore the same clothes Serefina had on. " It's okay", Serefina replied nonchalantly as she stood up and walked to the side where other fire benders were gathered. " I'm Adriana", the girl said, following her. " Your- your flame is purple", she pointed out. " Your element is water, you won't understand", Serefina said, waving her off. " Still, I'm curious" Adriana replied slightly annoyed by Serefina's ego. " Hey miss blue hair, only fire benders are allowed on this side of the hall!" Alinta pointed out as she noticed Ariana following Serefina. " Mind your business, Alinta!" Adriana clapped back. So that's her name, Serefina thought. " This is my business, Ana" Alinta replied angrily, " so if you don't want to get burnt, better walk away while I'm still nice!", she added. " Burnt?" Serefina asked, looking irritated. " Isn't it obvious? We fire benders are the most powerful of all benders" Alinta bragged, just as the head mistress walked in. " All elements are equal in power and strength", Miss Bedelia said, " as long as you believe in yourselves" She added. " I'm Head mistress Bedelia, the Co founder of this majestic school for benders and it's an honour to welcome you all to Silver High". She introduced herself. " I am also proud to announce to you all, Prince Aidan Hayes, the Prince and heir to the throne of Dominic, he's a student here as well", she continued, as she gestured for Aidan, the Prince to come over to her side. Aidan smiled and waved, " Hi, just call me Aidan" he said and returned to his seat. He looked over to where Serefina was seated, her golden eyes shone in surprise, the first time she let her emotions show. He smiled at her and soon the head mistress was done addressing the students. All other students left except Serefina and the Prince himself.
