In May of 1980 I was strolling through the park when a young man stopped and just watched as I passed by him. I was not sure what he was thinking at the time, but it scared me. I began running home, but was unable to keep from checking behind me to see if the young man was following me. As I reached the porch of my home my heart was pounding so hard that I could not breath. My father was sitting on the porch and asked me what was wrong. I explained to him what had happened and he told me that it was probably someone admiring me. He calmed me down enough where I could breath and I saw the young man again. This time he was walking up the steps to my house. When he got to the top of the steps the only thing he spoke was " Sir may I speak with you in private?" that is when my father turned to me and told me to go to my room he would call me out soon.

CHAPTER 1 THE BEGINNING OF IT ALL
Who may I ask that you are? Sir, my name is James Cartwrite. Okay James Cartwrite, why are you following my daughter? Sir, I saw your daughter in the park and I knew that she was the one for me. How would you know that she is the one for you when you do not even know who she is? Sir, that is the reason I am here. I would like to ask your permission to court your daughter. What exactly do you see in my daughter that makes you think I would allow you to do such a thing? Sir, your daughter is the most beautiful woman I have ever seen. I would love to get to know her and learn more about her. If I let you court my daughter, where would you take my daughter on your first date? I would take her out to dinner to her favorite place to eat and then to the movies. Okay, but what if that is not what she wants to do? If that turns out to be the case, then I would make sure to find out what she does want to do and make arrangements to do just that. Mr. Cartwrite I am not sure who you think my daughter is or who she can be to you, but I will allow you to court her. The first time she tells me you have done something that she did not approve of or I see her come in from a date with you and she is unhappy, I will make sure you never get near my daughter again. Am I understood? Yes sir, thank you for the chance to get to know your daughter sir. Jessica you may come out now. Daddy, who is this young man? Jessica, this is James Cartwrite. He has my permission to court you. Daddy, I do not know this man. He has already scared me and now you have given him permission to court me. I do not want to even be around him, much less be courted by him. Jessica, I explained to him that he can court you, but the first time you come home and tell me that he did something you did not like or you come home and I can tell there is something wrong he will no longer be aloud to be near you. Okay daddy, I will try it for a little bit, but I agree the first time he does anything I do not approve of I will let you know and I will not answer him any time he comes to call on me. That is your choice Jessica, but at least give him a chance to show you what kind of man he is. Daddy, what else do you think I will do? Jessica if you are anything like your mother you would only give him untill he messes up the first time. Daddy I just told you the first time he does I am telling you. Yes dear, but there are things that might be a mess up to you, but it might just be something that you were raised differently about. Daddy, I know the difference! I know you do Jessica, but I want to make sure you understand what I mean by something you do not like. I do understand that daddy. Just so long as you know and we are clear on everything. Yes Daddy, we are. So Mr. Cartwrite, what are your intentions for today? Ms. Jessica, for today, how does a walk in the park with good conversation sound? That sounds good to me! What time will you be calling on me? It is almost lunch time now, so I was thinking around 2:30PM. That would be a respectful amount of time to eat and change before I get here. That sounds good to me Mr. Cartwrite. I will see you then. Until then Ms. Jessica. mr. Coldwell, thank you for your permission to court your daughter. I have faith everything will work out sir. Everything had better work out for your sake Mr. Cartwrite. Yes sir! I will be here at @:30 to call on Jessica. I will see you then Mr. Coldwell. Yes you will Mr. Cartwrite. Daddy, how much do you trust that guy? Honestly Jessica, I am not sure if I should trust him. The way all of this has come about makes me think there is something else going on in his mind I just do not know what it is. Daddy i am not sure about him at all. If you think about it I had never seen him before today in the park and he followed me home just to ask if he could court me. Jessica just give him a chance and we will see what happens. He is one of the most elegible bachelors in town and I want you with someone that will give you everything you deserve. Okay daddy, but I am not sure about all of this. There is still a lot that we need to discuss about that man, but for right now I need to go in and start working on getting ready. I know there is something that we do not like about this guy, but I do not want to be late for our date. Okay, go get ready and let me know if there is anything you want to talk about. I will daddy, I love you. When I begin to my room I cannot help but think about what I should wear for today and all of a sudden I black out. It looked as though I was looking at myself until I realize that I am seeing something I have not done as of yet. I was wearing a beautiful yellow Victorian Dress. I was sitting outside of a restaurant that honestly I have never seen or been to. It looks like there are tears in my eyes, but I am not sure why. Soon enough I look up and my face is red. As I look closer, I notice that it looks like I had been hit in the face. When I start thinking I am going to see what allis going on I comeback from it and I am wearing the same Yellow Victorian Dress. I am not sure how I ended up in the dress, because I do not remember how I got to my room. I finished getting ready and just let everything roll off my shoulders so I could do like daddy asked me to do. I continued by doing my make up and hair. When I finished dressing I looked in the mirror only to see the girl in my black out. That scared me a little, but I still decided to continue with the plans. As i walked to my bedroom door I decided to change hand bags so that it would match the outfit. As I began to walk down the stairs I began to think I should change my outfit because of what I seen. About the time I began to turn around I heard my father, Carl Coldwell, calling out to me. When I got to the bottom of the stairs my father and Mr. Cartwrite are sitting in the living room. My father is in his chair facing my direction and Mr. Cartwrite has his back to me. When my father sees me he gives me an approving look just before Mr. Cartwrite turns around. Lisa, my father hollers. Yes Carl! Come see our daughter before she leaves with Mr. Cartwrite. I will be right there. I want to meet this young man anyway. As my mother walks in the room she taps my father and the shoulder. Lisa this is Mr. James Cartwrite. He has asked my permission to court Jessica. He believes that she is the one for him. How did this come about? I will explain everything after they leave. Okay! Good afternoon Mrs. Coldwell. How are you doing today? I am doing very well Mr. Cartwrite. What are your plans for you and my daughter to do today? We are just going for a walk in the park and good conversation. Get to know each other a little bit. Jessica honey is that okay with you? Yes ma'am. Okay, and you look very beautiful. Thank you mom. Later I need to speak with you and daddy about something, but it can wait until I get back. Okay baby just let us know and we can sit down and talk. Okay momma.
