Three barges were tied to the port post, a father and two sons were waiting in the unseen creases of the buildings after restocking their boats with water and food. Practised in the art of hiding, it was with sad amazement that the three humans saw at least thirty children silently dash across the cobbles to the boats. It was exactly midnight, and the guard had completed his look out. In twenty minutes, a new guard would walk by, hopefully seeing three empty spaces where the boats once were.
