Runaway Bride-to-be (Part two)

As we reached home Kripal came running

"Madam, Mrs. Grewal just called, I told her everyone was at the Gurudwra so she said to make a call once everyone comes back home"

Mom hurried inside and dialed their number.

I went upstairs immediately because I didn't want to hear the conversation...

It would have just made me more nervous and guilty...

I checked the clock and it was just 8:38, I called up Raj but it kept disconnecting maybe network problem so I texted him

"Hey, message me once you reach!? I have called for the taxi and I’ll leave by 12, love you! See you soon"

After sending the message I threw my phone on the bed and went towards the balcony. I saw dad giving instructions to Kripal and Sammy sniffing around in the garden.

I never knew I would have to leave so soon, but mom-dad, had left me with no other choice...I sighed and turned on my music player and listened to it...

After a while I heard mom's call

"Roop! Have dinner, come down!" after switching off the music player I went down, while having dinner mom spoke up...

"Mrs. Grewal has invited us for dinner tomorrow at their place" dad's face lit up

"That's very nice of her, even Roop will get a chance to know Kawal better this way" dad smiled at me but at the moment I just wanted to stop hearing things which were making my going away much harder..

After the dinner as Kripal picked up the plates, I went towards mom and hugged her tightly "Roopy" she said surprisingly but I didn't care as I wanted to take her warmth and love with me…

"I love you mom" she kissed me on my forehead, If only I could stay like that in her arms, no marriage...No running away, I then went and hugged dad too.

"We aren’t sending you away so soon beta, so you can relax...” Dad laughed but still I was going away and I didn't want them to get suspicious of what I was about to do

"I just missed you both too much, just one hug isn't enough to fill the gap of love" I smiled as they both laughed at my childishness and then headed upstairs after saying goodnight, I saw my cell blinking so I checked it immediately.

"Hey! I’ll be there in 1hour or so, Can’t wait to see you, be careful while leaving."

I turned and looked at the clock it was already 11:25 I locked the door and started my packing. It didn't take much time and I kept all the important things that I needed then changed into jeans and a loose t-shirt

I knew writing a note wouldn't do any good but still I wanted to write one so I wrote

(Mom-dad, I'm sorry, I tried explaining things but it didn't help...I know you want me to be happy but kawal is not my happiness... Raj is... so I'm leaving with him...When you read this I’ll be long gone...I respect your choice but it’s not what I want please forgive me, it would be a lot easier on me, Love, Your Roop) I folded the paper and kept it above the pillow. Time passed as I kept moving around in my room restlessly then I got a call but it was from an unknown number I picked up and it was the taxi guy.

"Madam, I have reached the place you provided but I can’t find you"

"Oh alright...I haven't left yet...just wait...I'll b there in 10mins." I hung up the phone and picked up my bag...

I slowly opened my door and stepped down the stairs...

I had to be very careful and quiet because Sammy was sleeping in mom-dad's room and if he barked. It was all over for me. .

I slowly and lightly opened the wooden door and stepped out for the main one...

My heartbeat raced with each second as I got close to the main gate...

Beads of sweat covered my forehead in fear of what I was doing...

This wasn't me I felt…

What was I doing...but I kept thinking it will be alright...just few more steps and I’ll be with my love...the main gate squeaked open as I pulled it..I looked back one last time at my house...

It was silent and cold just like the night...

I then took a deep breath and moved towards the main road...the taxi was there standing at the corner...I got in quickly...

The driver immediately looked back when I sat in but I was in a hurry

"Chalo bhaiya! (Let’s go!)" I said in agitation...

He quickly turned back & started the engine...I breathed calmly and rubbed my palms on the jeans as it got sweaty...

I checked my watch it was 12:15...airport was half an hour ride from my house but traffic of Delhi was unpredictable...

It could take less than half an hour or more than 1hr... So I was worried but the former happened & we reached in time...

I paid the taxi guy and he left...I entered the airport and it was too crowded as usual...

I looked around but couldn't find him, where was he..?

Had I reached before him...? I checked my watch it was 12:53...

I panicked and searched frantically for his face in the crowd...

But he was nowhere to be seen where was he?!

Suddenly my vision was blocked by two hands and I felt warm breath near my ear

"I knew you would make it." His warmth breath tingled my skin...

I turned around & hugged him tightly because only Raj could make me weak and strong at the same time

"I know it’s been hard for you, baby but from now on... it’s just going to be me and you...Everything’s going to be alright.. I promise." he kissed my forehead tenderly and I felt I did make the right decision after all

"C'mon. Let’s go" He held my hand tightly as we walked through the terminal towards the security check-in, the inspection went smoothly & then we, together, boarded the plane for New York!
