Later that evening, just as I was beginning to relax a little, a soft knock sounded at our door. Aidan stood up to answer it, while Nikolai kept his arms wrapped around me, not letting me move from his lap.
When the door swung open, Morgana stepped in, looking tired but composed. Her usual confident air was tinged with something that looked almost like worry.
“Hey, Morgana,” Aidan greeted, stepping aside to let her in. “Everything okay?”
She gave a small nod. “Damon has been contained. He’s in a secure room under strict watch. The principal is dealing with the aftermath, but... that’s not why I’m here.”
Nikolai’s grip on me tightened a little. “What’s going on?”
Morgana looked directly at me. “The king has requested to see you, Ella.”
My heart skipped a beat.
