CHAPTER EIGHT

285 Words
As soon as Elliot emerged from Eniola's room, Eniola followed closely behind him. She quickly overtook him and dropped to her knees, blocking his path. "Please, Elliot, don't fire Lillian," Eniola begged, her eyes welling up with tears. "I know she made a mistake, but she's really sorry. Please, just pardon her this one time." Elliot's expression softened slightly as he gazed at Eniola. "Why should I pardon her?" he asked, his voice firm but gentle. Eniola took a deep breath before launching into her explanation. "Seven years ago, my father died. I got pregnant and gave birth to Mimi, but her father denied my pregnancy and left me. Not long after, my mother died. Lillian was the one who took care of me and my daughter after I left her house." Eniola's voice cracked as she continued. "The house I rented was just one room, and beside it, I also rented a shop. One day, I couldn't pay the house rent because I had no money." Eniola's eyes filled with tears as she recalled the painful memory. "He forced me to sleep with him, but I refused. He was angry and sent me and my daughter out." Eniola's voice dropped to a whisper. "I found nobody to help me, so Mimi and I slept under the bridge for days. Lillian helped us, and now I'm begging you, Elliot, please don't fire her. She's the only one who has ever been there for me and my daughter. Have mercy on her, Elliot. She's truly sorry. Please, I'm begging you, don't fire Lillian. She's like a sister to me, and I don't know what I would do without her. I'll do anything, just please forgive Lillian."
