The small, cluttered living room of Nicole’s home was alive with tension. Nicole sat on the edge of the couch, her hands clasped tightly together, while Tatsuya leaned against the wall, his arms crossed. Across from them, Nicole’s best friend, Zara, paced back and forth, her neon-green hair catching the light as she shot skeptical glances at Tatsuya.
“So let me get this straight,” Zara said, stopping abruptly and pointing at Tatsuya. “You’re telling us you’re from another *dimension*? Not just another country, or planet, but a whole other *reality*?”
Tatsuya nodded, his expression calm but serious. “Yes. My world… different. Not like here.”
Zara threw her hands up in exasperation. “Nicole, you can’t seriously believe this. I mean, come on! He could be some kind of… I don’t know, escaped experiment or something. Or worse, a con artist!”
Nicole shot Zara a sharp look. “Zara, I know it sounds crazy, but I’ve seen things—things I can’t explain. The pod, the symbols, the way he… I don’t know, *glows* sometimes. It’s not normal. And he’s not lying. I can feel it.”
Zara raised an eyebrow. “You can *feel* it? Since when are you psychic?”
“I’m not psychic,” Nicole snapped, her voice rising. “But there’s something about him, okay? Something real. And if you’re not going to help, then just… stay out of it.”
Zara sighed, running a hand through her hair. “Look, I’m just saying we need to be careful. If he’s telling the truth—and that’s a big *if*—then this is way bigger than any of us can handle. We need to think this through.”
Nicole opened her mouth to argue, but Tatsuya interrupted, his voice calm but firm. “Zara… right. Be careful. My world… dangerous. But Nicole… important. We… connected.”
Zara frowned, crossing her arms. “Connected how? What does that even mean?”
Tatsuya hesitated, then pointed to Nicole and then to himself. “Same… energy. Same… destiny. My world, her world… collide. Must fix.”
Zara’s eyes narrowed. “Collide? What do you mean, *collide*? Like, our worlds are going to… crash into each other?”
Tatsuya nodded, his expression grim. “Yes. Time… running out.”
The room fell silent as the weight of his words sank in. Nicole looked at Zara, her eyes pleading. “See? This is why we can’t just ignore this. If he’s right, then we’re all in danger. We have to do something.”
Zara groaned, flopping down onto the couch. “Okay, fine. Let’s say I believe you. What exactly are we supposed to do? Build a spaceship? Call the government? Because I’m pretty sure they’d lock him up and throw away the key.”
Nicole shook her head. “No, we can’t involve anyone else. Not yet. We need to figure this out ourselves. Tatsuya says there’s a way to merge the realities safely, but we need to find the right tools. And we need help.”
Zara raised an eyebrow. “Help from who? The local handyman?”
“Actually,” Nicole said, a small smile tugging at her lips, “I was thinking of Dex.”

Later That Evening: Dex’s Workshop
Dex Alvarez’s workshop was a chaotic mess of wires, tools, and half-finished inventions. The stocky young man was hunched over a workbench, his hands moving quickly as he soldered a piece of circuitry. He didn’t even look up when Nicole, Zara, and Tatsuya walked in.
“Dex, we need your help,” Nicole said, her voice cutting through the hum of machinery.
Dex glanced up, his face lighting up when he saw Nicole. “Hey, Nic! What’s up? You guys here to see my latest project? I’m working on a drone that can—”
“Dex,” Nicole interrupted, stepping closer. “This is serious. We need your help with something… big.”
Dex raised an eyebrow, setting down his tools. “Okay, shoot. What’s going on?”
Nicole took a deep breath, then gestured to Tatsuya. “This is Tatsuya. He’s… not from around here. Like, *really* not from around here.”
Dex blinked, looking Tatsuya up and down. “Uh… okay. What do you mean?”
“He’s from another dimension,” Zara said flatly, crossing her arms. “And apparently, our worlds are about to collide. Fun, right?”
Dex’s eyes widened, and he let out a low whistle. “Whoa. That’s… intense. So, what, you need me to build a portal or something?”
Nicole nodded. “Basically, yeah. Tatsuya says there’s a way to merge the realities safely, but we need to build a device to do it. And we need to do it fast.”
Dex scratched his head, a grin spreading across his face. “Okay, this is officially the coolest thing I’ve ever been asked to do. But… uh, where do we even start?”
Tatsuya stepped forward, holding out a piece of paper with a detailed sketch of a strange, glowing device. “This… machine. Need parts. Energy. Time.”
Dex took the paper, his eyes scanning the intricate design. “Whoa. This is… advanced. Like, way beyond anything I’ve ever seen. But… I think I can do it. If you guys can get me the parts, I can build it.”
Nicole smiled, relief flooding through her. “Thank you, Dex. I knew we could count on you.”
Zara groaned, throwing her hands up. “Great. So now we’re all in on this crazy plan. What’s next? A road trip to steal alien tech?”
Nicole turned to her, her expression serious. “Actually… yeah. Tatsuya says there’s a place nearby where we can find the energy source we need. But it’s not going to be easy.”
Zara sighed, shaking her head. “Of course it’s not. Why would anything ever be easy?”

The Next Day: The Abandoned Facility
The group stood at the edge of an abandoned industrial facility, its rusted gates and crumbling buildings looming ominously in the distance. Nicole adjusted the strap of her backpack, her heart pounding as she glanced at Tatsuya.
“Are you sure this is the place?” she asked.
Tatsuya nodded, his eyes scanning the facility. “Yes. Energy… here. But dangerous. Must be careful.”
Zara crossed her arms, glaring at the facility. “Oh, great. So not only are we breaking into a creepy abandoned building, but it’s also *dangerous*. What could possibly go wrong?”
Dex grinned, hoisting his toolkit onto his shoulder. “Relax, Zara. Where’s your sense of adventure?”
“I left it at home, next to my common sense,” Zara muttered.
Nicole ignored the banter, her focus on Tatsuya. “What kind of danger are we talking about?”
Tatsuya hesitated, then pointed to the facility. “Security… automated. And… others.”
“Others?” Nicole asked, her stomach tightening. “What others?”
Before Tatsuya could answer, a loud clang echoed from inside the facility, followed by the sound of heavy footsteps. The group froze, their eyes wide.
“Uh… I think we’re about to find out,” Zara whispered.
Tatsuya’s expression darkened. “We must go. Now.”
The group moved quickly, slipping through the rusted gates and into the facility. The air was thick with the smell of oil and decay, and the dim light filtering through broken windows cast long shadows across the floor. As they crept deeper into the building, the sound of footsteps grew louder, accompanied by a low, mechanical hum.
Nicole’s heart raced as she glanced at Tatsuya. “What is that?”
Tatsuya’s eyes narrowed. “Drones. Security. We must… avoid.”
“Avoid?” Zara hissed. “How are we supposed to avoid something that’s *hunting* us?”
Before anyone could answer, a bright light flooded the hallway, and a sleek, metallic drone rounded the corner, its sensors locking onto the group.
“Run!” Nicole shouted, grabbing Tatsuya’s hand and pulling him down the hallway.
The group sprinted through the facility, the drone close behind. Dex fumbled with his toolkit, pulling out a small device and tossing it behind them. The device emitted a high-pitched whine, and the drone hesitated, its sensors flickering.
“That’ll buy us a few seconds,” Dex panted. “But we need to find that energy source, fast.”
Tatsuya pointed to a door at the end of the hallway. “There. Energy… inside.”
The group burst through the door, slamming it shut behind them. The room was filled with strange, glowing crystals, their light casting an eerie glow across the walls. Nicole’s breath caught in her throat as she stared at the crystals.
“This… this is it?” she asked.
Tatsuya nodded, his expression grim. “Yes. But we must hurry. Drones… coming.”
As the group began gathering the crystals, the sound of footsteps and mechanical hums grew louder outside the door. Zara glanced at Nicole, her face pale.
“Nicole… what if we don’t make it out of here?”
Nicole met her gaze, her voice steady despite the fear in her chest. “We will. We have to.”
