Ava’s POV
Bang. Bang. Bang.
I was forced out of sleep by the sharp sound of the door being knocked upon. Waking up to the room that I should have gotten used to already but still looked really strange to me.
The sound came again, but it was stronger and louder this time around. A frown came up on my face as I tried to decipher who could be on the other end as I stood up from the bed and walked over to the door.
I opened the door to see Daniel on the other side, he was about to knock on the door again when I stepped out. Does he even chill at all?
“You’re still sleeping?” He asked me, frowning a bit.
“Well, I’m technically awake now. What do you want?” I asked him, scratching my eyes as I wasn’t fully awake yet.
“It’s eight in the morning, who sleeps till that time?” He looked pretty shocked, but I could sense the underlying tone of anger in his words.
“Are you here to tell me something or you just want to mock me for sleeping in?” I asked, getting annoyed too. Daniel is pretty annoying too, he just masks it with his coldness and quietness.
It had been two days since I got here and we’ve pretty much avoided each other. I was even shocked to see him at my door, he hadn’t acknowledged me since two days ago. What did he want then?
“Dress up, we’re going out.” He said, turning around immediately he said that. It was almost like I didn’t have a choice but to do what he just said.
“What if I say I’m not going? I don’t feel like going anywhere today.” I shrugged, making him stop and turn around again. He looked shocked. Didn’t he expect me to defy him? Well, jokes on him then.
“You do realize that you’re tied to me now, right? You’re to obey everything I tell you to do.” His voice was cold and distant, his eyes very dark too.
“No. You’re also tied to me, I’m not the only one married here. And I’m not your puppet, why should I just follow your words because you say so?” It sounded even more funny as I said it out loud, I didn’t want to believe that anyone had that kind of mentality at all.
Daniel moved closer to me, his eyes so dark and intense as he got really close to me. I wanted to move back but I couldn’t back down, I had to maintain eye contact with him so he wouldn’t think I’m weak.
“Who do you think you are to talk back at me? No one does that to me, they don’t disrespect me. Who are you?”
I leveled my breathing as he was trying so hard to evoke fear in me but I had to just let him know that I wasn’t scared of him.
“I’m not a dog or any kind of pet, you’ll talk to me like a human if at all you want to tell me something. I deserve respect too, you’re not the only one who can be disrespected.”
I couldn’t be a lawyer and be timid. I’ve stood before judges and I’ve never for once fretted. I’ve handled cases that involved me standing before hardened criminals and I’ve never felt an atom of fear from doing that. Why then would I be so scared of him?
He looked into my eyes for a while, challenging me to back down but I didn’t.
“It’s about Leo, and if you don’t feel like coming with me, you can just stay back at home.” Was all he said before breaking the stare and walking away.
“You could have just said that since though. Just give me a few minutes, I’ll be right outside.” I said, hoping he heard me because he was walking very fast.
I went back into my room and dressed up just like I had said, I went to meet him outside. I had to rush up with taking my bath and all, I had the shortest bath I’ve ever had. Daniel had started the car by the time I got out, I had to jump in.
The car moved immediately I got in and we started the journey.
“Where are we going?” I asked him but he said nothing. He just kept driving, his hold on the steering wheel so strong.
I let out a sigh when I saw that he didn’t even act like he was going to reply to me at all. He kept his eyes on the road, his face void of any emotions. He was clearly still mad that I stood up to him earlier. He better get ready for more of that, I don’t back down easily.
The rest of the ride was done in silence, I was scrolling through my social apps all through. I’ve pretty much ignored a lot of messages since the wedding day. A good number of my friends want to know what happened with Leo.
Only my best friend, Aria knows the truth for now and she might just be the only one who knows about it forever. The car stopped at a very tall building. The street was so quiet and deserted that I felt scared for some second.
Three armed men came towards the car, their appearance itself would make anyone run for their life.
“Come out.” Daniel said coldly then got out of the car, leaving me alone there.
Before I could open the door for myself, it was opened from outside by one of those men. He held the door for me to come outside.
And though I was scared of the gun, I didn’t make it show on my face. He bowed a bit for me as I walked past him, I mumbled a ‘thank you’ then followed behind Daniel who was already going into the building.
He kept walking and I really thought he wouldn’t stop anymore, he entered a room. But he didn’t stop there at all, there was staircase in the room that led to the lower part; a basement.
The room was really lit and it was cold in there. A man was tied to a chair, looking like he had been run over by a thousand trucks.
“What’s happening, Daniel?” I asked him, barely holding myself together. The room itself looked scary, it was clearly a crime scene. Daniel was really involved in criminal activities.
A ted more pain on the man, asking him who sent him. It was a very gory scene.
After much beating, the man dropped a name. Lucien.
“Who’s Lucien?” I asked loudly.
“A loose end, and maybe a link to your missing fiancé.” He answered me.
Just before we got out of the room, the sound of gunshot met my ears. My legs couldn’t move anymore, I stood rooted to the ground. I felt someone- Daniel carrying me outside.
It was when we got into the car that I came back to reality. That man was dead, they killed him themselves. I was married to a killer and a criminal.
