Arranged Marriage to the Mafia Boss

Chapter 2

    Waking up in the morning her routine stays the same. What doesn't is what happens when she gets to school.

    A block away from school Alexis notices a black car parked on the side of the road. For some reason it grabs her attention but she brushes it off and laughs under her breath as her imagination runs wild. She's had many fantasies of someone coming to save her from the hell she lives in and at this point it has become comical to her. Something like that would never happen in real life. Almost to the front entrance, a car stops beside her bringing her attention to the side. It's the same black car. "No." She laughs a little louder this time. Her imagination is in full force today. Maybe it's because she's subconsciously dreading what is going to happen at school. She continues walking but is stoped when a man speaks behind her.

    "Alexis?" She turns around and sees a man in a black suit walking around the front of the car onto the sidewalk coming towards her.

    She laughs and looks down. Looking back up at the man again she mutters, "No I think you have the wrong person." She turns to walk back toward the school, but is stopped by another man wearing the same style black suit. She stops and looks at him closer. Black shoes, black suit and an ear piece. What is this a kidnapping?  Laughing once more, "If you will just excuse me I'm about to be late for school." School did not actually start for forty-five minutes but she was not about to stick around to wait for whatever was going to happen. As she starts walking her arm gets grabbed from behind her and a cloth gets shoved against her face.

    "I'm sorry but you need to come with us." Then Alexis blacks out.

    Comfort. Warmth. Heavy eyelids. Alexis starts to rouse from her slumber feeling very relaxed. Rolling onto her side she cuddles more into the blankets that surround her. Letting her mind slowly wake up from her slumber she starts remembering the events from earlier. She abruptly sits up eyes wide open only to be  greeted by a wave of dizziness causing her to close her eyes once more. Gaining her composure, she opens her eyes again to take in her surroundings. She is laying in a bed in a rather lavish looking bedroom. There are three doors around the room that she can only assume are a bathroom, closet and the way out. Stepping out of bed she realizes that her clothes have been changed and her hair was let down from its tight bun that she had placed this morning. Or was it this morning? How many days has it been? She is now wearing baby blue satin pajamas. A pair of shorts and a button up short sleeve top. Pushing that thought process aside her instincts kick in trying to find a way out. She walks toward the wall that only has one door assuming that is the way out. Upon opening the door she sees the back of a man in a black suit standing in front of it. As she quickly closes the door she hears him speak, "She's awake...Roger."

    Alexis backs away from the door hyperventilating. "This is a joke." She starts laughing. "A big misunderstanding. Yeah. As soon as they realize they will just let me go." She casts her eyes down to the floor. "Yeah." Her laughing dies down as the seriousness of her situation starts to overwhelm her. Alexis is still standing in the middle of the room looking down, lost in thought, when the door opens. Her head snaps up as a man in a grey suit and brown hair walks in closing the door behind him. Alexis retreats from the man walking toward her and settles herself on the other side of the bed keeping herself a good distance from him. "What do you want?!" Tears start flowing from her eyes as she starts shaking, overwhelmed by what is happening.

    The man sighs and stops walking. Standing in the middle of the room he says, "I just came to make sure you were all right." He pauses but Alexis just stares at him incredulously. "Well, seeing as you are awake and standing I'm assuming you are fine. I will be sending a doctor in to check up on you however." He pauses once more staring into Alexis' eyes wanting her to comment on the situation. Getting no response he turns around and leaves just as he came closing the door once more.

    Alexis collapses on the ground and starts crying uncontrollably. "What is happening? Why is this happening? I don't understand!" She gets out through her sobs not directing her words to anyone specifically.

    Alexis was roused awake by someone shaking her shoulder. When she looked up she sees a middle aged mans face no less than 18 inches away from her own. She lets out a gasp and scoots toward the corner away from this new presence in the room.

    Still kneeling down he laughs, "Looks like your awake now." He laughs again. It is a very deep laugh and would be comforting if she knew who this man was or why she was in this position in the first place. Seeing her still huddled in the corner he begins talking again, "Where are my manners. My name is Dr. Rajesh Hamal but I'll let the pretty lady in front of me call me Raj." He gives her a small wink. After she does not speak he says, "You must be Alexis Finely, unless I've gotten the wrong room?"

    Alexis looks more confused than before, "No." It was the first time she spoke to anyone excluding herself since arriving to this room.

    Raj stands up looking confused as well, "No? Well then who might I be talking to?"

    Taking a deep breath she says, "My name is Alexis but my last name is not Finely it's Miller." She waits to see what the Doctor is going to say about this new information.

    "Right...hmmm. Well, regardless I was sent in here to make sure the lovely lady is healthy so that is what I will be doing. If you are who you say you are and this is a misunderstanding I'm sure everything will get sorted out right quick." He smiles. "Now, why don't you have a seat on the bed I will be conducting just a routine exam and I will also draw some blood to make sure your overall health is good."

    Alexis looks at the man for a bit and decides that he is not there to hurt her so she cautiously gets onto the bed. She continues to look at him not wanted to miss any of his movements.

    "Alright so the first thing I'm going to do is take your blood pressure and heart rate. Give me your arm." Alexis hesitates not ever going to the doctor she doesn't quite understand what he is going to do. He notices her hesitation, "Don't worry, see this blue thing goes around your arm and it will get tight as if someone is holding your arm but then it will get loose again. Once it's loose that means we are all done! This thing around my neck just helps me to listen so I can hear your blood flow. Here, go ahead and touch them they don't hurt." He holds the stethoscope and blood pressure cuff out in front of him. She gingerly touches them and notices just by looking that they seem harmless enough.

    "Ok?" He asks and she nods. "Ok I'm going to place this around your arm and pump up the pressure. Like I said it will feel tight momentarily but no worries it will loosen right up." He starts to pump up the pressure and she winces when he gets to the pressure he wants to start at. "Alright now stay quiet while I listen." A few moments go by and he lets loose all the remaining air. "Great, all done. Now for your heart rate and oxygen level I am going to use this pulse oximeter. It just attaches to your finger like this and in a few seconds it will show your heart rate." He puts it on his own finger to show her it won't hurt. She nods. He places it on her finger and records the readings.

    "Ok last thing I'm going to do is draw some blood. This might hurt a little but it only feels like a bug bite or a bee sting." She looks at him and thinks that nothing else he has done has been to harm her so she puts her arm out again. "Alright, this is the needle and I just need one tube of blood so it will only take about 30 seconds. I will count to three and then I will poke you. After that initial poke the procedure is painless. One, two and three." He puts the needle into her arm and she winces then starts to relax as the pain subsides. "All done! Ok I am going to send this off to the lab to get looked at. Is there anything you want? Are you hungry or thirsty?"

    "Some water would be nice..." Alexis says sheepishly. 

    "Perfect. I will have someone bring that straight in!" Raj leaves the room and she can hear talking in the hallway.
