Chapter 1
Beep. Beep. Beep. Alexis groans turning in bed shutting off the alarm clock sitting on the night stand. Laying onto her back she rubs her eyes clear of the crust that has formed between the lids. Opening her eyes every so slightly she looks at the ceiling waiting for her brain to wake up for the day. After a minute of laying there she stretches and lowers her bare feet to the cold floor below. Trudging over to the dresser she pulls out an ill fitted pair of jeans, a blue t-shirt and a large grey sweatshirt that is one size too large. She starts her descent from the second floor of the house to the first where the bathroom is located. She makes sure she is quiet in order not to stir her sleeping parents. Slowly shutting the bathroom door she lets out the breath she was holding.
Quickly she goes to the bathroom and brushes her teeth. She then changes out of her oversized night shirt and into the clothes she brought down. Next she starts to brush out her hair. It always was full of knots in the morning due to it's long length. She has never received a proper hair cut because her parents wouldn't pay for her to go and get one so she cuts it herself. Even though keeping it short would make it easier to manage the longer length is easier to cut. After brushing out the knots she French braids it and twists it up into a low bun to keep it out of her face at school. Once finished in the bathroom she heads back up the stairs minding the noise she is creating. She grabs her backpack and puts on her only pair of sneakers. Heading down to the kitchen she stops to grab a granola bar and an apple. Hearing her parents stir in their room she wastes no more time and heads out the door to walk to school.
Walking to school takes about thirty minutes. She didn't mind it though because she always had to wake up extra early anyway in order not to see her parents in the morning and the thirty minute walk meant she did not arrive to school at an ungodly hour. Plus she was able to eat her breakfast on the way. The only days it was annoying was when it would rain or during the winter, but even then it was better than being around her parents. She was left on her parents door step when she was an infant so she wasn't their actual child. Being constantly reminded of that fact always made her wonder why her parents did not just take her to a hospital or church. Why keep her if she was such a burden. No matter. She is 17 and soon to be 18 graduating from high school in less than a month. Once that happens she is gone, never to look back again. She has never worked but she has always been alone so she was determined. Her plan? To move out of state, get a job, and go from there. Anything was better than where she was. Abandoned by her biological parents only to have new parents who do not claim her, except on their taxes.
Once at school she heads to her locker to put her things away and grab her books for first period. Being there thirty minutes before school starts means she can head to the library first. Once there she picks up the current book she is reading and waits for first period. No one is usually in here this early in the morning so she has peace and quiet for the time being. She doesn't have any friends at school and actually prefers it that way. She keeps her head low and her hoodie up most of the day never raising her hand in classes and steering clear of the bathrooms as much as possible. The only people that talk to her do so to bully her. Being so quiet and isolated makes her an easy target that no one cares to interfere with.
At lunch she luckily gets her lunch paid for by the government since her family is poor and she heads outside to eat away from the rambunctious cafeteria. Thankfully her parents are poor enough for her to get free lunches because even if they made more money they wouldn't ever give her any of it for food. This way she can have a full meal every day during the week. Sitting on the grass she starts to open her milk when she is pushed from behind making it spill all over her. "Sit much?" Ugh, Tiffany.
Looking down Alexis sighs and puts her food tray beside her. Looking up she glares at the smirking blonde before her. "Hey Alexis how are you today?"
Getting up Alexis mumbles under her breath, "Better if you weren't here."
"What was that?" Tiffany shrieked and pushed Alexis making her fall backwards onto the grass. "I didn't quite hear you?"
Silence. Alexis looks down gritting her teeth trying to hold in her anger.
"I think we need to teach you how to respect those above you." She smirks looking at Trevor and John behind her."Well? Teach her how she should behave." She makes a hand movement gesturing towards Alexis.
Upon seeing movement out of the corner of her eye Alexis looks up. Trevor and John are stalking towards her with grins on their faces. Alexis starts trying to back up and just when she turns on the ground to get up and run, one of the boys grabs her. Tsk. Tsk. Tsk. "You shouldn't have done that Alexis. Just accept your punishment." Trevor says in a bored tone. He flips her onto her back and John goes up to her head to hold her arms down. "Now what should we do?" Trevor said while staring down at her form while straddling her waist. "Awe. No need to cry, this could be enjoyable for you." He wipes away a tear that fell from her eye with the pad of his thumb. At his touch Alexis turns her head to the side.
Trevor looks up at John and they smirk to one another before looking down at Alexis once again. Trevor trails his hand down her torso while she writhes beneath him trying to get away. When he reaches the hem of her sweatshirt he flattens his palm against her hip and starts to move it up and under her clothes. "Stop!" Alexis yells.
Trevor is quick to take his other hand to her mouth successfully covering it. "Now, now that's not very nice. I'm trying to be gentle for you." He continues his assault moving his hand further up her stomach. "Who would have known you had such a nice body underneath all of these baggy clothes? I think we are both going to enjoy this." Just as he is about to reach her sports bra Tiffany speaks up, "Teacher!" They all look up and then flee. Trevor and John high-fiving each other and laughing as they go.
Alexis pulls her shirt down and sits up looking back to her food and then toward the teacher. She takes a deep breath and grabs her food to start eating again. "What seems to be the problem over here?" Mr. Waldorf says eyes looking down at Alexis then wondering up to the retreating figures and then back down again.
"Nothing sir."
Mr. Waldorf looks at Alexis for a minute. "Hmm, alright then. Lunch is almost over you should be heading back to class soon." Mr. Waldorf turns back toward the school heading inside. Alexis sighs once more a single tear falling down her cheek. That is the first time something like that has happened. Usually it is just verbal abuse or pushing. Maybe they are just getting antsy because it is less than two months away from graduation so they figured they can get away with doing more. Well if that's the case then the last two months do not bode well for Alexis.
At the end of the day she sees Tiffany's group hanging around out front so she decides to wait until they leave to head home. Luckily the walk home was very uneventful.
Once home she sees her parents car in the driveway. She opens the side door, "I'm home!" Alexis yells. Her parents yell at her if she doesn't announce her presence to them.
"Great! Your father and I are celebrating. He received a promotion at work!" Her mother yelled from the other room. "There are steaks in the fridge we want you to cook for dinner. You can have the ramen in the pantry."
Rolling her eyes Alexis says, "Okay mom."
After dinner Alexis cleans everything up and heads to her room for the night. Luckily they were both in a good mood today so Alexis did not get yelled at. They usually always found something to be mad at, but not today. Taking off her milk covered sweatshirt and the rest of her clothes from the day she slipped on her night shirt. Laying in bed she thought about tomorrow and how she was going to have to be more cautious around Trevor and John. She could handle everything except for what they were about to do to her. She luckily falls asleep a few hours later dreading what tomorrow would bring.
