Once Upon A Full Moon

Driving through the city under the rainiest of nights the street lights aiding the moon to give light through the darkness; the digital clock reading 21:25, my wife Marisa sits by my side looking on ahead i could feel the tension in her form as she cast glances behind checking at the road as we move ahead, "He said we'd be okay...they're taking care of everything, calm down honey" I'd said as I placed my hands on her thighs reassuring while trying to keep my voice steady. I peak through the rearview mirror my girls fast asleep at the back seat of the car, my eyes rest on my little Aubree, 'she'll get over it with time' I keep convincing myself 'besides she just turned four it will soon be all forgotten with time'. It was definitely the right choice we made leaving everything behind as things had began to take a huge turn for the worst; but even as heartbreaking as it all felt, we all made the right decision. The summer that had started out just like any other turned out to be really revealing, especially of the world as we now know it; I'd come here to find a good story on the town, I'd found one, but it was a story that could not be told. Their images kept flashing through my every thought: their statuesque that had taken up the form of men, or their long bare canine teeth's even those glowing orbs like the ones seen on most dangerous predators; pure terror radiating from their sockets and then there was the howls; especially their howling sounds which left a lasting echo in my head even as it brings back the dreary actions of the former night, as for the latter reason have we found ourselves in this present state as he'd said 'something came up' like he'd always say 'but will our running away really put it all behind us'. As I'm filled with these thoughts a sudden overpowering feeling of dizziness hits me, i jerk the car to a quick stop right next to the West End exit, I begin to feel a bit panicked as i feel myself slipping out of consciousness 'whats happening__' i try closing my eyes and breathing even as I worry that my wife isn't responding to what is going on a sharp pain goes through my head and all i see is black. [Car siren sounds]. I jolt at the sounds, as i try adjusting to the blurring of red and blue lights, distant voices, my senses beginning to adjust as two cops make their way towards our car i instinctively roll down my window, their were two who'd approached, the older one with the officer badge spoke first. "Mr Chambers" he'd seemed to know me as he was surprised to see me here "everything alright in here__ where you headed by this time" How the hell did I end up waking up in my car on a side walk; the only thing I could remember at the moment was I'd covered the report on everything Portland and it's neighborhood via a wonderful summer but now we're on our way to catch our flight at Portland international jetport, so I explained exactly that to him, he seemed a little displeased with this information. “ I see... can't wait to get away from us now, can you__ well then you have a safe one then" he tap the car lightly twice motioning we were free to go, I felt a little sorry for the guy who i didn't seem to know, i take a quick glance at the name on his badge "__Officer Shaw" I call out to him as he retreats "it was a pleasure knowing you" he acknowledges me with a tap on his cap, the younger guy grins at him 'a secret conversation between themselves' before they head towards their car as i watch them drive away. I am called back to our current situation by Marisa her voice almost in a whisper "Phil... did you feel that__ " she was looking at me now her blonde hair wrapped up in a bun now almost loose, her once clear blue eyes now swirling with different emotions all at once: tiredness, confusion and surprisingly anger. "yeah...i did" I'd thought on what to say next as to make her not to feel the more anxious "hold on... the kids do you think they felt it" she kept whispering I couldn't guess if she was conscious of this fact or not, ad she kept casting involuntary glances towards the kids who where still fast asleep, I noticed her form seemed to have relaxed a bit, her shoulders no more sagged. "Every things okay" I say reassuringly placing my hands on her thighs "I don't know what that was, but what i do know right now is that the kids are okay... and so are we". I looked towards the digital clock now showing 21: 25, 'hmm... I guess we still have time on our hands then' I say to myself as I drive on leaving behind the silent night and all it's questions.
