The young people walked three blocks. “Here ‘tis,” Jacob bowed, sweeping his arm across the front of a narrow, purple Queen Anne. “Thirty-four seventy Chicago Avenue South. Home sweet home.” He hopped up the steps and saluted. Dread swept over Sher. As Kris stepped onto the stairs, Sher touched her arm to stop her. Focused on the thought of food and drink on big tables inside, Kris continued up the stairs. Sher’s stomach growled. She acquiesced. They’d just get some food. Then find a park to sleep in.
