The hunt in the moonlight
My lungs burned as i ran into the forest charged with pure adrenaline…..The full moon casts silver streaks through the trees but it did nothing to the empty space between my feet…..my shadow was absent.
I cursed myself repeatedly for passing through the forest instead of the street, at least it’ll be safer there, now I’m trapped in the forest with her psychopathic soon to be ex and i knows deep down in my mind that if he catches up to me then i should kiss my virginity good bye.
“Bastard,” I muttered underneath my breath and kept on running…… but of course which girl wouldn’t want to be ravished under the moon light in the forest with her lover, just that something did not always feel right when it comes to Derek.
“Keep running Lyra, just know i’ll f**k you hard and ravish you like the animal you are then choke you with my c*m” Derek’s voice boomed across the forest sounding like something straight out a horror movie.
I ran faster feeling his voice sounded too close,my core tightened from his words but here’s the thing when ever I want to indulge in these fantasies I don’t always think of him instead nameless faces…….the point is i want to be ravished like an animal but not by him.
With that thought I ran faster into the forest with twigs cutting into my skin, but that didn’t slow me down one bit if Derek caught me,there’s a high possibility he’ll forcefully try to have me and blame it on the alcohol and well,I’m not ready to be r***d or added to the long list of girls he had f****d and besides I have evidence of him cheating on me.
His footstep got closer and closer which made my heart thrum with fear and I made a silly mistake of looking back and saw him hot on my tails, eyes filled with maniac energy that made my blood turn ice cold.
Then I stumbled. He lunged foward to grab me. I twisted out of his grip, scratching my palms on the dirt and sprinted again.
With pure adrenaline I ran deeper and faster into the woods. A deep unnatural growl erupted from the darkness ahead. The forest seemed to shiver. Something snapped underfoot…..not mine. Something bigger, faster,Alive.
I froze mid step sensing it before even seeing it.
A massive black wolf leapt from the shadows and its deep blue eyes locked on Derek……its growl vibrating through the forest , echoing like thunder.
My heart pounded violently in my chest thinking this is the end but the wolf didn’t attack me, instead it locked it feral gaze on Derek, teeth bared, muscles coiled like it was going to attack any second.
Derek took a step back slowly…….fear replaced his earlier maniac look and his eyes as clear as it could ever be which made me realize the bastard wasn’t drunk and was actually pretending to be drunk.
“W what is this?!” He stammered…… gone was the almighty president of the schools board, the Prince of Cedarvale and in place was a boy who looked like he’ll pee his pants any seconds from now.
I scrambled over roots and rock but felt sudden relief. I didn’t know if i trusted this creature but at least it saved me. Being a meal for this wild animal is better than being ravaged like an animal by Derek….which shows how much my body hated the idea of submitting to him.
I collapsed against a tree gasping for breath while Derek eyes darted around like a thief looking for a way out.
Internally I rolled my eyes at Derek, feeling disgusted by his lack of IQ. The wolf would literally kill him before he’ll say ‘I’ so why is he trying to escape which is obviously a futile attempt, since i was going to die anyways,I sat down and recalled my life…you know the phrase ‘your life flashed before your eyes’ it’s true.
I recalled from my childhood and didn’t remember a single pleasant memory and ‘why’ you may ask because I was born without a shadow. Absurd right? But that was the plain truth.
My childhood memories were filled with my parents forbidding me from stepping out of the house but being a curious person by nature I sneaked off the house in a hot afternoon when my parents were out.
Wandering around the town I walked towards the town’s playground curious about the children there cause I wasn’t allowed to have friends or even step outside then a little boy walked towards me and shouted ‘where is your shadow?’ almost every pair of eyes looked at me at that moment.
Then the whispers started and my hearing was good than most people’s own.
I clearly heard parents saying I am a cursed child while some said I am a freak and pulled their children closer, warning their children to stay away from me saying I’m the devil’s child.
I felt their alienation as clear as a day then my parents appeared and tried to explain that it’s a medical condition but their eyes betrayed their skepticism.
Then after that misfortune became my closest friend,my parents died, my relatives were indifferent and I was utterly alone in the world and made no friends as well and the only person that willingly associated himself with me was Derek.
He knew that and used that to his advantage fully, literally using me and tossing me like a piece of trash and picking me whenever he wants again which I allowed because well…I’m an attention starved b***h and I’ll collect any crumb of affection I can get.
Wondering why I wasn’t dead,my gaze flickered to the wolf, it remained absolutely still fixed in some strange weird stance which made it look submissive, eyes fixed on me like it could recognize something only it could see.
Through the moonlight I discovered the wolf was staring at me intensely, looking back at the wolf I felt made safe...Call me crazy cause there was no way in hell I felt safe with a wolf…what is this? Some fantasy novel?.
Then a figure emerged from the shadows……tall, human but impossible intense blue eyes glowed in the moonlight.
He didn’t move, didn’t speak. His presence radiated control, danger, possessive power and a promise for something more. The wolf at his feet growled softly almost like it mirrored his emotions.
My stomach fluttered with a mix of fear and anticipation.
A twig snap brought me back to the real world…….that bastard Derek was escaping leaving me alone to fend for myself with a wolf and a strange man.
He could be a serial killer for God’s sake and that wimp left me all alone, I’m dumping his cheating ass tomorrow anyways that’s if I make it out of here alive.
“Um, thanks for saving me” I said while standing up and backing away slowly “I’ll be on my way now thanks”I continued while darting a cautious look at him.
“Did I give you permission to leave” the stranger finally spoke with a deep sexy voice.
Have you ever heard a man’s voice and had the strangest urge to call him daddy..want to tell him to use you…break you...punish you,as absurd as that sounds that was exactly what was running through my mind.
I cleared my throat and hoped he can’t smell my arousal in the air.
“I didn’t realize I needed your permission to leave” I had intended for it to come out as powerful and strong but it came out whiny and girly which made me cringe internally.
He didn’t speak. He just looked at me with an oppressive gaze that sent my false bravado flying through the sky
His glowing blue eyes drifted to the ground beside me.
The moonlight spilled across the forest ground
My expression changed, this was the normal procedure by now but for reason, the thought of this stranger thinking of me as a freak sent a wave of discomfort all over me.
His expression changed.
Not shock.
Not discomfort.
Recognition.
“So it’s true “ he murmured
My chest tightened “what is true?”
His gaze slowly lifted to mine
“Cedarvale really does have a shadowless girl”
His answer made my hands tighten in anger. Here I was thinking for a moment that I’m probably special.
Then a thought occurred “Could it be that he wants to dissect me like a frog or what” my eyes narrowed and I took a few step backward
“Who are you” I asked warily
He stepped closer, slow and confident. The wolf moved with him like a moving weapon.
“Someone who has been looking for you” He replied in a way that made my pulse jump.
Feeling creeped out I backed away slowly but luckily this time he didn’t try to stop me this time.
I sprinted out of the forest and felt the sudden urge to look back and our eyes clashed.
He was still looking at me with a soft creepy smile, the kind that made the hair on my neck stand in fear.
Then I stumbled, stood up and ran faster away from the forest but I could still feel his laser gaze on my back.
