The next day he woke up to the to the smell of fresh pancakes. He could see charlotte in an apron. She was baking while humming at the same time. She turned off the stove; approached the little table that was situated in the corner and told him to come eat. “wow this is really good” he said while munching on his food. “oh really” she said with a bit of depressed look. “what’s the matter” he asked with his mouth still full of pancakes. “you know the reason I am in here isn’t because I lost my way” “oh really” he said in a sarcastic tone. “I have always been on bad terms with my mother. When I was little. My mom always wanted me to be.., well let’s just say less girly. My mom thought that I should play sports and go outside play with the boys. But I wasn’t really all for sports. For a long time, my mom forced me what she thought was right and what she thought would make me stronger. Eventually she joined the elections to become the leader of the island. My dad died when I was young due to cancer so most of the time I was alone in my house. She then told me something that would later turn into a huge fight.” Charlotte then flash backed a few days earlier. The front door opened and in came a rather daunting figure for charlotte. “Oh mom your back early. Hold on let me make some tea.” She went into the kitchen and made some. “Charlotte there’s something I wanted to talk about” she said in a serious tone. “oh umm ok” she said with a confused look. “I was thinking about your future and I’ve decided on one thing”. Charlotte suddenly went rigid. She shuddered at the thought of what her mother could have thought of. She could feel a sense pf impending doom slowly coming. “this place needs a new leader after I’m gone” she said as she lit the cigar. “and that’s going to be you”. All of a sudden her expression changed from fear to hatred. She could feel a burning rage in her chest. “ive alredy informed the -” “all these years of controlling me”. She said with her head down. “you never once thought about me, always forced me to do whatever you want.” She said as her voice slowly rose up. “and now you won’t even drink the tea I made for you” she said the last sentence with a shout. “I’m sorry mom but I will not become the ruler of this empire”. She said in a low voice almost whisperingly. Her mother gave her a cold glare as if she were trying to pierce her with her rigid look. She tapped her cigarette in the smoke tray and took another long puff of her cigarette. “I didn’t come here to ask for your opinion, I came here to tell you that you will be the new ruler” she said in a clam monotone voice. Charlotte couldn’t believe it. Somewhere inside her she hoped that maybe her mom would stop being so cruel. She was too naïve to think that. Her mother would and will never change. Charolette tried to run away when her mother grabbed her hand. “Where are you going” she said. “to my room” she answered while shaking of her mother’s hand and stormed in to her room. “If I can’t have what I want then I’ll just leave this place”. She looked at her bag and without a moment of hesitation she packed a few clothes that would be enough for her trip. She didn’t know where she would go but she knew she wasn’t going to stay in this godforsaken place. Charlotte went down a few steps of the stairs and looked around to see if her mother was there. She wasn’t maybe she had gone to sleep. Whatever the reason maybe she didn’t stop to think about it. She quickly went to the kitchen and got a bunch of canned food and stuffed it in her backpack. Then as she went to the front door and wore her boots. she felt a sudden calm in herself. After all these years she was going to be free from the clutches of a bigger evil. A big burden going was going to be lifted. She hurriedly went outside through a strait path filled with beautiful flowers on each side of the porch. But as she was running with a big smile on her face she suddenly halted in her tracks. In front of her stood a merciless tyrant. A demon who would stop at nothing to get what she wants. Susan was standing in front of her like an impenetrable wall and with her two soldiers. “where do you think you’re going” she said with a straight face. “n-nowhere” charlotte said in a cracked voice. “how long do you think you can survive in the city without any care, be rational about this you i***t” she said as her voice raised a little. “um a-a” she couldn’t think straight. It was as if all her hopes and dreams were crushed there in front of her. Susan looked at her for a while. Then she ordered her troops. “Take her to the cell”. “no wait please, you can’t do this to me” she said bursting in tears. But the guards took her by force into the van. Pushed her into the van and closed the door. “and that’s how I got here” she said with a big sigh as she looked at her empty tea cup. “I see” he said as he looked into his cup. Damien remembered a simpler time with him and his mother. He was a little boy back then and he could see his mother and all his other siblings together in a room. It was a sunny day with the birds chirping. There were others with him too. He then snap backed to reality. He looked at charlotte and saw the helpless desperation in her face. And all of a sudden an idea came to him. “so you tried to escape huh, probably didn’t work because you went on your own”. He stood up looked at her and gave him his hand. “come with me”. He said. These three magical words were all she needed. She could feel a heavy burden been lift off of her. As if all the depression and anxiety had just vanished with a switch of a button. Yet at the same time she became over whelmed. Suddenly some stranger who she just spent a day with came to her and said to go with him. all these mixed emotions confused her. Yet she could see in his sea blue eyes the determination. The resolve to do something. Something that she was lacking. She felt safe with him. then very hesitantly she gave him her hand. Now if you could just stand a little to this side. “umm ok” she said with a confused look. Suddenly a huge land rover came busting inside the cell. You could see half of it inside the cell. inside you could see two people. A man in his thirties came out of the driver’s seat. “you alright me boy”. The man asked as he coughed and swung his hand around to make the dust go away He had spikey white hair and a beard much like his hair. He wore a sleek jacket with a big collar around his neck. Under the jacket was a white shirt. He wore tight black pant. He had a holster on his side for a pistol. Charollete could see a holograph on his left eye which was used for holographic purposes. “well hello there” he said as he looked at charlotte got down on his knees and kissed her hands. Charlotte looked in his eyes and felt a little bit weirded out. She hadn’t spent much time with men so thought this was something men do. She looked at her with a strange look but he looked at her as he were some saint that had done a great deed. He got up and pat the prisoners back and said. “well me lad” he said to him. “shall we go”. “wait, let me first introduce you” the prisoner said.” “charlotte, this is Zane he’s my best friend and commander of tactics”. “so are we ready to go” the prisoner looked at charlotte as he said that. He walked towards the van and was about to get in. “there’s just one more thing” she said to him. He looked back at her. “who are you”. “oh me”. I guess I never introduced myself “first order in command of the rebellion” he said. “draken” he said with a smirk.
