“I’m not sad,” Cam mumbled, finding himself fighting to believe his own words. Maybe Elisa was a lot like him. Maybe people like them did have to stick together and support each other. He glanced out at the road from the picnic table that they sat on and pondered the fact that she may be right. Elisa passed him the joint that they were secretly smoking and he took a few good tokes off it, passing it back to her hidden in his palm. “Then turn that frown, upside down,” she said, causing Cam to cough out the smoke he was holding in his lungs, and smile. “See, that wasn’t so hard, was it?” “You’re a nut,” Cam said, as he took the tiny bit of joint back from her and toked off of it, handing the wee speck of burning paper back to her while he, again, held his smoke.
