Chapter 13

Leah POV Ugh, why did I make training start at 6 am again? It’s 5:30 am and I’m staring up at the ceiling of my room willing my body to get up and ready for training. After the council left yesterday, Silas and I just spent the rest of the day getting to know each other. I gave him a tour of the territory and an official tour of the pack house, and then we just hung out. We knew we had a lot of heavy stuff to talk about, but for this one night, we kept it light and had fun. But, one thing led to another, and it was suddenly 3 am before we attempted to fall asleep. Silas wanted to meet the warriors before meeting the rest of the pack, and I agreed. Aside from the ranked members, the most vital members of the pack were our warriors and guards. If Silas could prove himself to them and gain their respect, it would be an easier transition with integrating our lives. When I left for Fallen Oak in a few days, I would do the same thing, participate in their training session first thing.  The plan for the day was a training session with the warriors where I would also introduce Silas, and then  my regular work day . It would then end with a Bonfire to introduce the whole pack to my mate. Silas groaned and rolled over next to me on bed, “I’m starting to regret agreeing to go to training with you, Moyo. I’d much rather just spend the day in bed with you.” I give him a dirty look as I sit up, “How often do you get to spend the whole day in bed Alpha?” I joked. Silas chuckled as he forced himself to get out of bed, “That’s besides the point. I don’t typically stay up to 3 am either. Totally worth it though,” he replied as he wrapped me in his arms and gave me a kiss. I laughed but pushed him away, “Come on, we can’t be late. That won’t look good.” We quickly got dressed and headed down to the training grounds. Luckily, Silas had brought workout gear with him so he was able to wear appropriate attire. Down on the main floor of the packhouse we met up with Brett and Gabe, and we all made our way outside. Our lead warrior Tristan jogged up to us as we joined the field. He had been working all weekend with Silas’ head warrior to design a training regimen for all of the packs, so I was pretty sure he must’ve had at least an idea what was going on. Besides, it seems that rumors about what we told the council yesterday had spread quickly, and I wouldn’t be surprised if the whole pack already knew I was mated.  “Good Morning Alpha,” Tristan says to me, baring his neck slightly in respect. He gives all the guys a respectful nod as well. Tristan is a massive wolf with tan skin and dark braids close to his head. He was the lead warrior when my father was still Alpha, and still continues to kick all the poor recruits asses every day. “Good Morning, Tristan. This is Alpha Silas Davis from Fallen Oak pack. He will be joining us today. And don't go easy on him because he's a guest,. I want to see what he can do." I heard Silas chuckle from next to me as Tristan grinned. " No problem, Alpha," he looked over at Silas and extended a hand, "it's nice to meet you Alpha. I have heard great things about your army, I'm looking forward to working with your Lead Warrior Nicholas." Silas accepted his hand in a firm shake, "it's nice to meet you too. Nick and my Beta have been speaking highly of you all weekend. I'm sure both packs will learn a lot from each other." After the pleasantries were over I walked up to where all the warriors were warming up. Seeing me, they all stopped what they were doing to give me their undivided attention. "Good morning Warriors," I announced to them using my Alpha voice. "Good Morning Alpha," they said in unison. "I wanted to introduce you all to Alpha Silas Davis of Fallen Oak. I'm sure some of you heard the rumors going around yesterday and I wanted to clear them up.  On Friday when Alpha Davis arrived at our pack house, we discovered that we are Fated Mates," there were a few gasps and whispers. I could see varying looks of excitement, doubt, and concern in some of my warriors eyes. "While Silas and I have a lot to work out, one thing will remain the same. I am Alpha of this pack. Please treat Silas with the same respect you would any Alpha or any ranked member of the pack. Things will be fluid, and though changes are sure to arise, this is how we’ll be working for now. Now, Alpha Davis will be staying with us for the next few days, and will be training with us. Let's show him what a Crescent Moon warrior can do."  The warriors all cheered and seemed to loosen up after that. Silas stepped forward and cleared his throat. Instantly, all the talking stopped. Damn that was impressive.  "I'll be quick so we can get started with this morning's training, but I just wanted to say a few things. While I don't  know everything that happened, I know there's been a lot of people trying to come in here and mess with your pack and your Alpha.  I just want to make it clear from the jump, I'm not one of them. As warriors, one of your biggest responsibilities is to protect your Alpha at all costs. And while I know she doesn't need it, our goals are aligned. Protecting Leah and this pack are my top priorities now, along with my own pack.  I know I haven't proven s**t yet, but I'd gladly lay my life down for any of you as I would my own. Not only will our packs be forever connected through our bond, but our warriors will be working very closely together over the next few months while we fight this threat hanging over all of our heads. I hope we can do this smoothly and come out together stronger in the end. Alright, it's your show. Let's see what the famous Crescent Moon warriors can do," Silas said nodding towards Tristan. I gently squeezed his hand as Tristan announced today's schedule. I looked over at my warriors, and while there was still some doubt and concern, it seemed the genuinity of Silas' speech had won over some of them at least.  Tristan finished announcing the schedule by saying, "we'll start with a 10 mile warm-up. Alpha Davis, as our guest, would you like to lead it?" I couldn't help but laugh quietly, we all knew that was Tristan's way of challenging my mate to see if he's as good as the rumors say.  Silas met the challenge with a grin, "I'd love to."  And he immediately took off running, the rest of us falling in behind him. Silas POV: Well, the rumors about the training regimen for Crescent Moon are true. They are some crazy mother fuckers. I couldn't wait to tell Garrett and Nick, they were gonna have a field day getting ideas from them. But my pack isn't exactly chopped liver, and I definitely hold my own. And the fact that more than a few of the guys came up to me afterwards and told me welcome to the Pack, I knew I must've done pretty damn good. I was also beyond impressed with Leah. I knew she was kick ass, but seeing her sparring one on one with warriors much bigger than her showed me just how bad ass she really was. And they were not going easy on her, like at all. Of course, I had to keep Kingston in check all damn day to keep him from mauling one of the poor warriors for hitting our mate, but it was worth it getting to watch her.  It turned me on more than I expected, and by the time training was over, I was horny and half way to hard.  Unfortunately both Leah and I had work to do, so I knew playtime would have to wait.  "Well we both need to shower, right Moyo? We can take a quick shower together?" Leah gave me a dirty look, "Last time we took a "quick" shower together," she did the air quotations around quick, "we took 45 minutes and I had 3 orgasms." "I'm not understanding why that's a bad thing?" Leah rolls her eyes, "Because I'm neck deep in meetings and conference calls today. As much as I hate to say it, the orgasms will have to wait." I clutched my hands to my chest like I was having a heart attack and pretended to keel over. Leah just laughed at me. "Stick to your day job babe, acting is not in your future."  I couldn't help but laugh. By the time we got up to Leah's quarters, I was able to at least convince Leah to shower with me, but I had to promise to keep my 'd**k to myself', her words not mine. As much as it pained me, I kept my word. The rest of the day flew by in a blur. While Leah was getting some things done with her pack and her businesses, I set myself up in the spare office on her floor that was probably designed to be a Luna's office, but hadn't been used in years, to get some work done. I made a mental note to make sure I got an office set up for Leah to use while she was at my pack, and to get what I needed to make this one officially mine.  Leah had planned an introduction bonfire for me at 7, so around 5:30, I packed.my s**t up and went to find Leah. The smell of snicker doodles led me down to the pack kitchen where I found Leah sticking two pies in the oven. I noticed a tray of freshly baked cookies cooling on the counter.  "Um babe, are we having a bake sale I wasn't aware of?" I ask as I wrap my arms around her from behind. She leans into me, but swats my hand away as I reach for a cookie. "Stop that, Silas, they're still cooling. And no, I'm not having a bake sale. I just had some stressful meetings and I always bake when I'm stressed. I figured I can bring them to the party tonight. I know there will be plenty of food, but you can never have enough dessert." I spun Leah around and lifted her, sitting her back down on the island counter. She pouted a bit, but didn't protest. Standing in between her legs, I wrapped my arms around her and began kissing her. "What's happened Moyo? Anything you want to talk about?"  She just shrugged as she relaxed into me, "Not really. Just a lot of bullshit. Missed deadlines, dropped contracts, that kind of stuff. Nothing major. But, especially since dad died, I needed an outlet, something that I can focus on ,concentrate only on that, not think about all the other s**t going on. That became baking for me." "A lot more beneficial for me than my outlet," I tell her. "What's yours?" "Beating the s**t out of someone. And if it can't be a person, the bag is an ok substitute." Leah laughed, "Stereotypical Alpha." She tells me. "Speaking of, I've never actually seen someone raised in a pack house, especially raised to be an Alpha, who can bake or cook, like even a little." Leah shrugged, and I could see a little sadness in her brown eyes, "Aunt Lucy, Brett's mom, taught all of us. She wasn't ranked growing up, and insisted all of us kids learned to cook and bake, at least the basics. She always said that she didn't want her kids, which included Gabe, his siblings, and me, to grow up not knowing any life skills. She said you never knew what would happen and it would be a stupid way to die if we starved to death because we didn't know how to cook," Leah laughed but I could see tears forming in her eyes, "which is probably stupid, since we're wolves. We can always hunt. Though eating raw meat all the time would get old fast. I think I'm the only one who still does it at all though." I wiped a tear as it fell down her face. "What happened Moyo? Why are you crying" Leah rested her head against my chest, and I allowed her scent to calm me. "Aunt Lucy, and Gabe's mom, Aunt Maria, were the only mom's I ever really knew. But especially Lucy. She was just like that. She was always mothering all of us, plus any strays from the pack. She was the one to make sure we had enough to eat, to keep track of all our school projects, and schedules for school plays and sporting events. She was the one who first insisted I go to prom and went with me to buy my prom dress. It was her who stayed up with me all night while I cried when my high school boyfriend broke up with me." I knew there was something wrong with me when the thing that got me out of all that, was that she had a boyfriend in high school, and that the asshole hurt her. Probably not the point of the story. "Anyway, my mom left us when I was 8 months old. She wasn't my dad's true mate, it was an alliance marriage between two packs. It worked out for a while, but when she did find her true mate, she left dad and I with nothing more than a note. Neither of us has ever heard anything from her since. From that point on it was just dad and I. Thank Goddess for Brett and Gabe's parents. I loved my dad, will always love him, but he was the Alpha and always busy. They really filled in the gaps and made sure I had a great and loving childhood, especially Aunt Lucy." I was raging at her mom. Who abandons an eight month old baby? Sure I completely understood the power of the mate bond, but to abandon you child completely? But the sadness in Leah's eyes was definitely not for her deadbeat mom, they were for Brett's mom, " What happened to her?" I asked quietly as I rubbed comforting circles on her back. "The attack that killed my dad, when I was 19, it was brutal. My dad had agreed to a contract with another pack from a different state. I don't even know what for, but they would be supplying the product and we’d be finding it. But before we handed over the money, my dad learned about their shady business deals and stopped it.  To this day, I still have no idea what they were doing. But I know he was horrified. After he died we scoured his files for information, I don't even know the pack name, he would never tell me. Well, the pack couldn't run their product without us, their financiers, and were furious that my dad backed out.  One night, in the middle of an awful storm, they attacked. We were completely taken off guard. Our security wasn't as modern and updated  back then, and they were easily able to sneak in." Leah hesitated, taking a minute for herself, "Anyway, the attack was brutal. We lost a lot of lives that night. A lot of good warriors and innocents.  They didn't just go for our warriors, they sacked the village, ransacking the houses like they were f*****g vikings. They got in the pack house. Aunt Lucy and Maria were trying to protect all the young pups who had run to the pack house and hide. It all happened so quickly, they couldn't get them all to the safe house. Aunt Lucy saw two little ones trying to make a run from the village to the pack house. She ran out to grab them, but was intercepted by some of the attacking wolves. She was killed.  All of us, my dad, Brett and Gabe's dad's, the three of us, we were all out fighting and trying to protect the village. My dad died trying to go after the leader. He was ambushed and separated. He was strong as hell, but couldn't compete against 10 wolves to one. It took two days to find his body, or what was left of it. Brett's dad, Uncle Keith, he was the one who found his mate's body, mauled and still draped over the two little pups. It broke him. Losing his best friend and mate in the same day. It completely broke him. He was never the same again." I just sit there, stunned, and hold Leah closer. It's no wonder Brett's dad broke, I'm surprised they all didn't. I knew about the attack, everyone in the region knew, but I had no idea how bad it was. And while my life hasn't been all sunshine and roses I at least had time to mourn my dad before becoming Alpha. They had to step up right away, in the middle of a tragedy, and they came out on top. I couldn't even begin to express how proud I was of Leah. Of all of them.  "Moyo,"I tell her while kissing the top of her head, "I'm so, so proud of you. To go through all that. To lose your parents like that, because you lost your mom that night too, just like Brett, and to jump right in for your pack and do a damn good job too. You are amazing. All of you are." Wiping tears that were still flowing, Leah just laughed, "I think I need one of those cookies after all. And a bottle of wine." I reached over and handed her one of the still warm cookies before going to the extensive wine rack on the other side of the kitchen. "White or red?" I ask her. She's looking at me like I'm nuts, but says "white." I pour her a glass and come back to her, lift her off the counter and sit  in a chair, with her on my lap. She drinks her wine and I feel the stress starting to release from her body. "I'm sorry Silas. This is supposed to be a day to celebrate us. A happy day. I didn't mean to drop that bomb on you." I look her in the eyes. "Moyo, I want to know everything about you. The good and the bad. So drop all the bombs on me you want. I'm not going anywhere."
