Chapter Eight The dining room had soft green walls with crown molding painted a crisp shade of white. Two windows filled one wall, bringing light into the room that didn’t allow for shadows to linger in the corners. Diane was sitting across the round table from Annie, with an empty chair between them. The table was laid out with cheeses, crackers, marinated artichokes, and an appetizer that Zac had placed in between them. Annie was grateful, at least, as it kept her from toppling over drunk from one glass of wine. Diane was drinking some fruity drink. Annie wasn’t sure exactly what it was, but it was alcohol free, something she would have preferred. Zac had insisted she have some wine, though.
