Chapter Nine
Annie couldn’t remember the last time she’d sat beside Sean in his truck as he drove them home. “Who’s Lizzy?” she finally asked. Whatever it was about Lizzy had pretty much put a damper on the evening, and Sean had made their excuses and ushered Annie out of Zac and Diane’s.
Sean was rubbing his hand over his jaw, and she could hear the rustle of a few days’ stubble. On Sean it didn’t look messy. It was just another thing about him that he could pull off, making him look damn sexy but still untouchable. She could tell he was thinking, maybe about whether to answer her or not.
“Zac’s girlfriend. She was pregnant with his child.” That was all he said as he sat there, driving them home to their new house, which felt strange and far from being theirs.
