Chapter 15: The Final Battle
The air in the temple was thick with swirling darkness. The Abyssal Heart had begun to manifest fully, its vast, ethereal form radiating power that made Aeryn’s skin prickle with fear. The cultists chanted frantically, pushing their magic to its limits as the heart’s power grew.
Kaelen stepped forward, his hand outstretched, his voice filled with resolve. “We end this now.”
But Aeryn knew that to stop the Abyssal Heart, they would need more than just willpower. The artifact had been destroyed, but it had left a piece of its power behind. A piece that now resided within her, a lingering connection to the ancient forces that had once consumed her.
Kaelen turned to her, his eyes wide with understanding. “Aeryn… no.”
She nodded grimly. “It’s the only way. I can feel it, Kaelen. The power inside me—it’s the only thing that can stop this.”
The high priestess cackled from across the room. “Foolish children. You cannot stop the Heart. It is unstoppable.”
Aeryn took a step forward, her heart pounding in her chest. She reached out, calling on the magic that had once bound her to the artifact. The power surged inside her, overwhelming and familiar. It was as though the very essence of the world was at her fingertips, raw and untamed.
With a cry, Aeryn released the magic, directing it toward the Abyssal Heart. The force of her magic collided with the vortex, sending shockwaves through the temple.
But the Heart fought back. It lashed out with tendrils of shadow, wrapping around Aeryn and pulling her into the vortex. Kaelen rushed forward, his hand outstretched, but the force was too great.
“Aeryn!” he shouted.
The darkness swallowed her whole.
