CHAPTER 12: Back at It

The last day at the cabin went by in a breeze. We chilled by the water for the most part. I barely saw Kai at all. It was like he was avoiding me all together. I decided once we got back to the school I'd try to start interacting with him more. Of course if he's interested. But I wanted to know before I decided to just leave the matter alone.

I've never dated a guy before. I did have 1 crush on a guy but Rachel ended up liking and dating him his name was Rowan Hell. He was the sexiest boy you'd ever imagine. His chocolate skin, hazel eyes, at the time he just started his locs so I can imagine how long they are now.

It was 8th grade " hey Rowan do you want to go to the library with me" I asked him in a low tone with my head down.

"Sure Jade I love the library we can read manga together" Rowan said with excitement.

We arrived at the library started reading One P. We literally was in the library for 4 hours just reading and laughing. That's when I knew I had the biggest crush on him. He was so nice, sincere, not to mention handsome especially for a 12 year old.

When he got with Rachel he didn't change he just became unavailable. So we hung out less and less. They dated for a year then he had to move. All he told me was he had to move because of his family's heritage but that was all. I was sad because my only friend I've ever had aside from Castelle who left me in 6th grade was gone which left me alone. Once he left the bullying started heavy.

I still don't know who gave me the necklace. Could it have been Leo? Was I the girl he was talking about? But he didn't even react to me wearing the necklace. I'll just ask him when we get back to school.

"Hey guys I found this old map of the school right before we came to the cabin" Mia said while walking towards me with Leo in tow.

"Ok let's take a look" I say grabbing it from her and place it out on the bed

Examining the map everything looks to check up but at the very bottom there's a quote. "ما حدث في الظلام سوف يظهر للنور"

What does that say? I asked to either of them "oh it means 'what's done in the dark will come to light' Leo says casually.

Me and Mia looking at him in slight shock

" What it's Arabic...since the first dragons were originally born in Mesopotamia" he says looking at us as if we should already know this.

"Ok so now that we have new information why do you think the quote is there?" I asked

"Maybe the map holds secrets" Leo said taking a closer look

"But it looks like a normal map, what secrets, how do we find said secrets" I asked

"Well in most movies or shows I've watched they tend to hold things against a candle or light" Leo said

"What I watch a lot of mystery shows can't blame a guy" he said shrugging

"Ok just create a light so we can see" mia said

Mia flicking a flame at the top of her finger which never ceases to amaze me, holds it behind the map.

Nothing

"Damn I thought that was going to work" Leo said with disappointment behind his tongue

So what do " ما حدث في الظلام سوف يظهر للنور " hold a significance too. I asked

And as soon as I was done speaking the map caught on fire.

But the map was still whole it just was a completely different map of the castle

Like everything was the same but there was secret rooms, tunnel, stairs. it was the same shape but everything was different.

"Ok so when we get back to the school we're going to test and see if this map is real" Mia said with excitement

"ok deal we're leaving in 30 mins so let's finish up quick." I said rolling the map up.

After loading the cars up my jeep mainly consists of my bday gifts. We got back on the road headed back to school.

The drive was definitely a sight to see. Since I'm seeing it for the first time. I wish we had more time out here with just us but school was important especially for me becoming a great Dragon Queen.

Thinking of my parents I pulled out the dragon pendant that belonged to my father that my mother gave me before I left through the portal. It was a small dragon. I remember seeing this once on my father's desk in his office. I added a chain to it. But I don't wear it. I just keep it in my pocket at all times for good luck.

Thinking back my mother called Elemental a camp, I see it more so as a school. We go to class even though we're learning about magic and fire. We have physical activities which I haven't signed up for yet. The cafeteria is huge even though Leo, Mia, and I opt out and eat in our rooms.

I'm loving it so far. I wish I could tell them all about it. But cellphones don't work in the school barrier. The only way to use my phone is to drive outside the barrier 45 mins. And the only way to see mom is to go through the portal. Which I can only do quarterly. Each Quarter we're able to return home for 3 days only.

I have to be in training for 4 years. So I'll be here for 3 and my last year will be somewhere else they won't disclose to me yet. Which will be the diplomatic part of my training. My last year I won't be with Mia or Leo they have their own journeys... I think I'll tell them who I really am once this year is over.

I just left my old school 3 weeks ago. And Graduation and Prom is this week. Back in the Human world it's June 1st. Graduation is the 4th and prom is the 7th. Here at Elemental the days, months, and years are different. And I'm still learning.

We're finally back at the school. Alex and Kai unpack my jeep and I go find Leo and Mia. we head up to my room so we can figure out what we're doing first.

"So once everyone is asleep we're going to first check the stairwell down the hall" Mia said pointing at the map

"Ok we need to make sure we don't get lost so find some chalk so we can make small marks.... if the map is real" I say turning to Leo

"Ok and I'll go pack a bag real quick with essentials just in case something happens and grab chalk"

" Something like what Leo?" Mia asked

"IDK if we get stuck.. or captured by a powerful creature... who knows" he says before running off to his room.

"ok once he gets back we will wait until 12 then go" Mia says

"ok" I say getting under my blanket

Leo came back 30 mins later with 3 bags instead of 1 with essentials (duck tape, water, rope, knife, bandages, pain relief, toilet paper, sandwiches, have sanitizer, and lip balm) I thought it was too much but according to him "too much is never enough"

"Ok lets gets this over with because in the morning we have classes and training" I say

Now we wait!
