A dull, thudding noise woke me in the middle of the night. I sat up in bed, startled. Darkness filled my room, and the cold night breeze made my hair fly into my face. I wasn't sure if I had had a nightmare or if I had actually heard the noise that woke me, though it felt very real to me, like a gunshot. My heart began to pound hard in my chest, and fear paralyzed me for several seconds. Something was wrong; I could feel it in the air, like a sixth sense. My grandmother often talked about how sixth senses saved lives, and I felt this could be one of those times. I got out of bed, my legs a bit shaky, the blankets tangled around them, and I almost fell to the floor losing my balance. But I quickly recovered and went to my closet, grabbing the first thing I found and leaving my room to see
