Chapter One
"Hi there!" I greet, happily as a lovely old couple walks into the restaurant. I've worked at Everybody's for three years now, and I completely love it. I have Ben a server for seven years and I don't think I could have found a better place to serve.
The atmosphere here is lovely, and the scenery is somewhat of a chill vibe, the layout of all the tables sitting on the brown wood floor compliment the lovely shell chandeliers hanging from the high ceilings. My boss, the owner is a great person, always understanding of any situation. I have a lot of them with my parents, my mother always has stomach issues while my dad has an autoimmune disease.
I don't complain though, I have goals set for myself. I am going to make and save as much money as I can and buy some land, build a house with a smaller house behind it for my parents, and start a family. Vacations all year round, and enough money saved to send my children to college.
Seems kind of unrealistic working as a server these days. I will make it happen. "Yo, Aubs, order up! Quit day dreaming, don't let my food sit for too long!" my line cook Zane says, slightly annoyed that I'm just staring at him instead of taking the Fettuccini and Hot Dog with fries out to our customers.
I grin at him and do as I am told. After work, we lock up and walk to the parking lot. Sunday nights, it's just Zane and I working, we both have keys to Everybody's since he's the kitchen manager and I am the serving manager. He stares at me over the top of his mustang.
"So I went to that bar you like so much and got the drink you told me to get, wasn't bad." he says, simply. I stare at him for a moment and he glances at the water then back at me. He chuckles and says, "You okay? Need to talk?"
I smile brightly at him. "Are you trying to ask me to go to the bar with you?" I ask, my hand on the handle of my Nissan.
He clears his throat. "I.. uh..."
"Meet me at my house and we'll walk down there." I say cheerfully.
He smirks, shakes his head then gets in his car. I drive home and park in my driveway. I go inside and am greeted by the smell of Sloppy Joe's. My stomach growls and I grimace. I had forgotten to eat while I was at work, my dad looks at me and smiles. "Hungry, sport?" he asks opening the buns.
After quickly scarfing down a sloppy joe, I go back to my room to change out of my work shoes and let my hair down. I go in, kiss my mom's cheek and say goodnight then leave my house once again, I walk down the walk way and Zane hops out of his car.
At Rick's, Zane orders us a couple drinks and pretzels. He knows I love them because it's all I eat at work. "Kimmy had her baby yesterday." he tells me.
I smile. His sister was expecting a baby boy, the father ran out on her and she's currently living with Zane, who offered to help her. "Awe, I wanna meet him."
"Check it out, the baby isn't a boy though. It came out with a v****a instead."
I laugh. "Of course she did! Why would you Carmichael's do what you're told?!" I say laughing.
He scowls at me the joins in my laughter. After three more drinks, we close out and walk the opposite direction of my house. Zane lives in the apartment complex three blocks and a little bit up the road from Rick's in the other direction.
By the time we get there, I'm ready to vomit up the food I drank with the alcohol. Zane holds my hair while I empty my stomach into the garbage can. "There there, little fox." he says, rubbing my back. "I'll get you some water."
He walks away and I hear him open the refrigerator. He comes back and has me drink a few sips from a bottle of water. Then guides me to sit down.
"What's been going on?" he asks.
I wipe my eyes and look at him as he sits down at the table with me. "Just a little stress and anxiety, never killed anyone." I say, shrugging.
"I'm here if you need to talk, seriously." he says, sternly.
Truth is, I've never been good at talking to people. My own sisters have stabbed me in the back for talking to them. It's easier to keep everyone happy by putting out the happy. One day I'll be where I'm meant to be, I'm not there yet, but I will be. Then I will be happy with not a care in the world. "How about we watch that movie you like so much?" I say, smiling.
He stares at me for a long moment, the need to push the situation clear on his face, then he smiles and nods. He grabs my water then a water for himself. I go to the bathroom and look around in the cabinets and find a toothbrush.
We didn't even make it five minutes into the movie before he pulled me onto his lap and started making out with me. Everything turned into a blur then.
