Avelora Pov
.
When I finally managed to go back into the town, I looked for my mate in all the places he usually hung out.
Not long after, I found him at the cliffside we usually went to when we wanted to be alone. Just us.
I smiled as his tall, lean body came into view. My mate. My Oliver.
"Oli! I've been trying to reach out to you for so long! Where were you? Why weren't you answering your phone?" I asked his back as I trekked the short distance to the very edge of the cliff. With tall trees on the other side and a gushing river below, it made for quite a romantic spot. It was one of the reasons I'd always loved coming here with him. It seemed almost fitting that I was going to tell him about my pregnancy here of all places.
I'd expected Oliver to be ecstatic when he finally heard my voice. But there was no sign of happiness on his face when he turned around to look at me. His eyes were cold, his face expressionless, almost as if he couldn't be bothered dealing with me right then.
It felt like a punch to the gut, but I forced a smile on my lips as I walked towards him. He was probably just tired or something. But I was sure he'd forget all about it once he heard what I had to say.
"Thank God, I found you here," I began. "There's so much I need to tell you. Actually the first one is that I'm pregnant," I announced loudly, hoping that it would finally put a smile on his face. That he would pick me up and twirl me around.
But nothing of the sort happened.
His expression didn't change. Didn't become warm.
What was wrong?
Maybe he was too shocked to reply? Of course he was. Anyone would be if a news this big was sprung on them so suddenly.
Especially when we didn't planned it.
It was suddenly and unexpected. We both didn't knew our love will give this new happiness. Even I was dumbstruck when I saw the two pink lines on pregnancy test kit, but after shock the happiness I felt was beyond words.
Although I didn't get chance to celebrate that happiness... Like everytime my father decided to ruin it.
I shook my head and decided to tell him everything. I raised my head and looked back at him. He had an impassive look, making it harder for me to figure what he was thinking.
I smiled softly, changing tac. Maybe I should talk about something else first to help him get over his shock. “It’s beautiful here," I started. "Did you come here—”
Before I could complete, his hands slammed against my chest.
My breath tore from my throat in a shocked gasp. I staggered backwards, pebbles skittering off the edge.
Confusion clouded my mind. For a heartbeat, I thought I had misstepped, that maybe he had tried to catch me. But his face was still hard. Cold. Unfeeling.
I stared at him, stunned. “What are you doing?”
He didn’t answer. The silence clawed at me worse than anything he could've said. My stomach twisted. My hand flew instinctively to my belly. He couldn’t—he wouldn’t—
Finally, his voice cut through my trembling hope, sharp as a knife.
“I can’t let you trap me, Avelora. Not with a pup. Not when I already love another.”
My knees weakened, a sob tearing at my throat. Another? What was he talking about? This was just some sick joke, right?
“No. No, you don’t mean that. You're just joking, right?” I searched his eyes, desperate for a flicker of warmth, for anything to prove this was a nightmare. But there was nothing. Only ice. Tears burned my vision.
“I’m your mate,” I whispered, voice breaking. “The bond between us, doesn’t it mean anything to you?”
“The bond means nothing. In fact it was never there... I lied to you that you're my mate” His words were final, delivered without hesitation. I felt ground sleep beneath my feet.
"Wh---What?" I stuttered, looking at him in disbelief.
"You're not my mate. I lied and you're so foolish that you even believed me.... So desperate to get love," he scoffed. Not a single word came out of my mouth because of shock.
“I never wanted you... I was just using you to my pleasure," he said the words that broke my heart into a thousand pieces. He clutched his hair frustratingly. “And now that you carry my child, I will never be free.”
My chest caved as though he had struck me again. I clutched my stomach, trembling.
“Our child. You’d kill our baby too?”
He didn’t even flinch. His gaze slid past me, as though I was already gone. “I want her. Not you. Not this.”
My heart shattered into a million little pieces as tears streamed down my cheeks. All the dreams I had woven around the tiny spark of life inside me, they tore apart with each word. It hurt much, much more than everything my father had ever done to me combined. My lips quivered.
“I thought when I told you.... you’d be happy.” My voice cracked, raw. “I thought you’d hold me, that we'd be a complete family now, you me and our baby.”
“You were just a mistake.” His jaw tightened, no sympathy in his eyes.
The world spun. The cliff beneath my feet seemed to crumble. The man I had given my soul to, the man fate had bound me to, he was killing me. Killing us.
I shook my head, unable to accept the reality.
“How could you? I loved you. I loved you with everything I had. I gave you everything.” I asked, looking at him with disbelief.
For the first time, his lips curved into something like a smile, but it was cruel, and mocking, like he was making fun of me for being naive enough to believe.
“And that is why it was so easy to play with you. But I'm done now. I've had my fill, and I want you gone. I'm going to kill you and that child of yours today,” he roared, taking a threatening step forward.
I stepped back from the heartless man I wasn't sure I recognised anymore. Not only did he want to kill me, but he wanted to kill my child, too.
My mate. My bond. The one I had loved even when it hurt.
The grief burned until it could no longer hold its shape. It twisted, blackened, transforming into something hotter, sharper. Fury.
My teeth clenched, my nails digging into my palms. He was the only good thing in my otherwise s**t show of a life. Now, he wasn't just rejecting me, but he wanted to kill me and my unborn child as well? The innocent being inside of me who hadn't even entered the world yet? How dare he?
A fire I did not recognize roared inside my chest, pulsing like another heartbeat. My veins felt like molten steel, my skin prickled with a strange heat, my vision edged in black and crimson. A strange power in my blood erupted, unchecked, stronger than anything I'd ever felt before.
For a moment, it felt as if shadows writhed around me, twisting together violently. But only for a moment. I blinked and it was gone. But the strange, almost maniacal energy flowing through my veins remained.
I didn't know what was happening to me, only that the thought of my own mate, the father of my unborn kid trying to hurt him made me want to tear the world apart.
And then, suddenly, everything went black.
