Chapter 14

1573 Words
That morning, Jessie and Taylor had arrived home at eleven-thirty. They'd set aside their differences, and Taylor had clung to Jessie's promise. She'd made a promise to herself that she would no longer sleep with her employer or any stranger from that day forward. Jessie had always been the responsible one, taking love seriously, but what about her? That's not the case. She doesn't believe in love and isn't interested in having anything to do with it. She is constantly baffled as to why individuals fall in love if it does not last. What was the point of it all, anyway? True love existed, and the man they loved would be there for them forever or be their prince charming, according to novels and movies, but they had lied because she had seen the men Jessie ended up with. They never lasted for long. They only intended to squander her time and further damage her before leaving, just like Marco Anderson. "I'll be returning to Marco's house today. I'd have to remove my possessions from his home and most likely book a hotel for the meantime." Taylor's bed was strewn with Jessie's belongings. "Can you tell me what you're talking about?" Taylor enquired. She walked up to Jessie. "This house has adequate room for you to remain. There is still a room available. You are welcome to use that space. Grandma would not return until the next season." Jesse let out a sigh. "I really don't want to cause you any inconvenience." "Are you insane? You are not bothering me in any way. In fact, I require your services right now, and you require mine as well, so this is the ideal location for you to stay. Consider it." Jessie smiled and nodded. "All well, then. If you insist on doing so. I'm staying." "Are you serious?" Taylor enquired. Jessie smiled and nodded. "I'm not going to spend any money if I stay here." Jessie listed. "I'd have a personal chef and a maid," she joked, and Taylor joined in. She motioned her hand over the room, saying, "Thank you very much." "What are sisters for?" Taylor remarked. "I believe I will be taking you to his residence to pick up your belongings." She continued. "No, you are not required to do so. You've already done enough." "Believe me, I do. You require security. What if Marco happens to be at home? What if he intended to cause you harm? I'm coming along because you need me." Taylor made a point there but Jessie was concerned. "How about work?" Jessie asked. "I'll give you an update tonight once I'm certain you're at ease here. Okay? And don't worry, I'm not going to be fired. My boss knows the stress that comes with planning a large gathering, so relax and get some rest so we can depart." Jessie smiled and nodded. "That's fine then." She walked over to the bed and removed her slippers. Taylor made an excellent argument. What if Marco was actually present? How would she defend herself against him now that she'd seen a side of him she'd never seen before? Jessie recalled the threatening glare in his eyes the other day. If he wanted to, he could give the look that could murder, and he could get away with it without getting caught. It frightened her. She rested her head on the cushion and shut her eyes for a few moments. Around 5:30 p.m., her alarm went off, waking her up. Marco normally gets home about 9:30 to 10:00 p.m., so she assumed he'd still be at work. She'd known him for a long time. When she noticed the time on the Alarm, she gasped. Taylor was nowhere to be found as she looked about. Before Marco returned home from work, she had to get out of bed and prepare to leave Taylor's house. When Jessie was ready to depart, she grabbed up her phone and dialed Taylor's number. Taylor had told her that after she finished her task, she would meet Jessie at Marco's place. Jessie drove to Marco's apartment after picking up Taylor's car keys. She exited the vehicle and locked the door behind her. She took a few steps to the front of the house and stood there for a moment, looking around. She let out a sigh. She'd been missing her home for the previous few weeks. She approached the door and took the spare key from the mailbox's top. When Marco was gone or if he returned home and she wasn't there, he'd always find the key there. They were the only ones who knew. Jessie blew the dust off the key and slid it into the door, which she flung open. She walked into a white envelope as soon as she entered. She'd glimpsed something beneath her foot and had taken a step back. She had knelt to pick it up. Strange! She hadn't expected to receive a letter from anyone. When there is a mobile phone, who still sends a letter in an envelope? She had initially assumed it was Marco's, so she tossed it on the table and walked inside to her room, closing the door behind her. When we opened her closet, she was taken aback by what she saw. Marco's clothing was in there, not hers. Her gaze had wandered and landed on her suitcases, which were positioned at the bed's corner. Jessie approached it on foot. She groaned as she lifted the bag to the bed and flipped it open. Her belongings were kept inside. They must have been parked for her by Marco. Before leaving the room, Jessie closed her bags and lifted them. Marco had made her life simple. She didn't have to fuss with getting her dresses and rushed out before he returned. She heard Taylor's voice on her way to the living room. "That is something I will assist you with. Is there anything else you need to get?" Taylor had inquired as she helped Jessie with her belongings. She smiled and nodded. "It remains a small bag. I'll be out in a few minutes." She returned to her room to retrieve the bag in which her shoes were stored. Taylor had assisted Jessie with her bag to the car and returned to assist with the rest. She grabbed up the white envelope as she saw it. As Jessie approached her, she wondered aloud, "Who still sends envelopes when there is a cell phone?" "It's possible that it's Marco's. Let's get moving before he arrives." As she approached the open door, Jessie said. "Hold on a second," Taylor said. "Taylor, what exactly is it? We must depart. Now!" Taylor shifted her gaze to Jessie. "It's from Din Cooper," she said. She handed Jessie the letter. "What?" Jessie's face was flushed with surprise. "How is it possible?" She wondered. "I'm not sure." Taylor c****d her head. Jessie snatched the envelope from her friend's grip and opened it. She took the letter from the envelope. "How did he discover where I live? Taylor, I thought you said he was gone." "I'm not sure how he discovered where you live, but please read the letter. It could have critical information inscribed on it." Jessie opened the mail and began reading after Taylor insisted. Jessie immediately yelled. "Are you okay?" Taylor asked. She returned her attention to the letter. "Taylor, I'm doomed. I'm doomed." "What could have been written there to cause you to utter those hurtful words?" "Take a look for yourself," she said, handing Taylor the letter to read. Taylor let out a gasp and looked across at her pal. She laughed nervously. "At the very least, something nice came out of our trip to Vegas." "How could you say that right now?"Jessie was the one who inquired. "Taylor, I'm married. That letter has my signature scrawled on it. That confirms I'm Din Cooper's wife. I'm his wife!" she yelled. "It can't be that horrible, can it? Relax, Jessie; we'll call him and have a pleasant talk with him." "I'm going to file for divorce. Immediately." She took her phone from her pocket. Taylor inquired, "What are you doing?" "I'm going to call my lawyer." "Stop it, Jess," Taylor said. She took the phone from her. "You do not have legal representation." "I've got your brother. He is my legal counsel." She sighed and rolled her eyes. "Let's put Liam aside for a moment. Simply phone Din and request a meeting." Jessie let out a sigh. "The letter does not include his phone number. I'm not sure how I would call him." Taylor re-addressed the envelope to her. "His phone number is scribbled on this layer. Now is the time to call him." Jessie hesitated, but she couldn't resist Taylor's stare. What could possibly go wrong if she dialed the number? She only needed to ask for a divorce and she was confident he would accept. He'd told her he was in love with a lady the day they drank at the club together, and she wasn't in love with him, so it would be simple for them to part and he could return to his life while she did the same. Din's phone number was entered into her phone, and she dialed it. The third ring was when Din picked up. "You've reached Din Cooper; What may I help you with?" Din stated over the phone.
