I’m surrounded by pieces of the large table when Mia comes into the back room, staring at me with bleary eyes.
“Huh?” She blinks, rubbing her eyes in a way that’s much too cute and makes her look more like she was at sixteen than the twenty-six she is now.
“It needed fixing. It was falling apart and really just needed to be pulled apart and put back together.” I shrug. I was up early, apparently my body just does that, no matter how late I go to sleep. Not that I went to sleep too late, we were all pretty exhausted, and I curled up at Mia’s side on the mattresses upstairs, which I don’t even think she realised, that’s how far away she was.
