CHAPTER 18 THE ANACOSTIA ASYLUM for the Criminally Insane looked like an unstaffed warehouse. She stood in the shadows on the far side of the street, keeping away from the cameras. This was not a good neighborhood. Watching the illuminated entrance, the golden green expanse of armored glass glittered in her eyes. There was no turning back. Not with her daughter in there. Trusting her safety to agent Smith and his amateurs could only be negligent although the thought was hard to purge. He had offered his own life rather than take hers.
