CHAPTER 19 IN THE NARROW hallway, Caroline heard the muted thud of well-greased deadbolts withdrawing. The low floor safety lights barely penetrated the darkness. She moved around the hallways and rooms with youthful agility. Nothing gave her fright. Not even the shelves with human parts in large glass jars. As a doctor, she had seen it all. The memories of how the parts got there were more bothersome. For a while, she stood by the high white freezer, listening. Not a sound. She opened the freezer and its strong light split the darkness.
