"If tomorrow brings hope, I hope it brings you!"
Aaron
I had been studying cake recipes all day. While Brenda was out with her sister and her mother. They were looking at dresses. My mother and father were going to be back in town soon as well.
And this gave me time look up YouTube cooking videos online. Nothing was helping. I was starting to sweat. I could not bake this cake. I was going to end up losing the bet. There was no telling what Brenda would have me doing if I did lose the bet.
I sigh as I run my fingers in my hair and go through more videos. Looking up things on Pinterest from my phone. Maybe I could pay Melody to bake me a cake. But Melody would spill the beans to her sister. I was a goner.
There was no way I could sneak around here and have her sister bake me a cake. The doorbell rings. Guests? They did not tell me guest were coming. Everyone was gone in the house. Everyone but me.

I get up out of the comfy sofa then go to answer the door. There she stands! My ex high school girlfriend Emily Borrows. I am floored she was there. "E-emily?" I stammer nervously,
"Aaron you never changed. Well a little bit! Give me a hug!" she demands.
She pulls me in her arms, and I notice she had a baby bump going. I back up. "You are having a baby?" I ask her. She nods and rubs her tummy.
"Baby number three on the way!" she brags happily.
She was still the same girl. Tall lanky. But she filled out in all the right places now. And her long black hair was curly and nice.
Not frizzy like during our high school days. I had not seen Emily since we graduated high school. Brenda had never been to found of Emily.
Or so I thought. I had only dated Emily because Brenda would not go out on a date with me back then. So, Emily was my pity date. Emily had been valedictorian at our high school. She was the smartest chick in our class. She did have a crush on me though back then.

"I can't believe you are marrying Brenda! Remember the day we graduated?" she asks me.
I nod. I smile. "I told you I had a thing for Brenda. And that I was going to tell her I had a crush on her back then. On that day" I sigh.
"But you chickened out" she says. "Otherwise you both would be married by now. With baby number three on the way" she laughs.
I sigh. "You always were to smart for your own good" I mention to her.
I allow her to come in. I shut the door behind her.
"I am supposed to meet Brenda and the others at a bridal shop. Where is it?" she wonders. "I tried texting the girls no answer" she says. "I was late with my plane arriving. Then my husband and I had to check into our hotel room" she grumbles.
"Oh yes I have the name of the shop. Let me write it down for you" I tell her.
I grab a pad of paper. Then jot down the name of the store in town. I hand it to Emily. "Hopefully I will get to see your husband. I never have got to meet him" I remind her.
Emily grins. "He is looking forward to meeting you all. I missed the one-year class reunion because I was having baby number two around that time" she giggles.
"How many babies do you plan on having?" I wonder curiously.
"Not sure. Whatever we are blessed with that is what we will have" she tells me. "Are you and Brenda planning on having kids?" she asks me.
"We have talked about it a little. We might have them. But right now, we are focused on the wedding" I tell her.
"Oh Aaron?" she says.
"Yes?" I ask.
"Better get on that cake! They take a few days to get right" she teases me. Then she winks.
I groan. "Brenda told you?" I sigh. "Women"
"She emailed all us bridesmaids" she giggles.
"Lovely!" I sigh.
"I bet it will be yummy" Emily says before she leaves out the door.
I pace the floor. "There is no way I can bake this cake. Maybe I should forfeit" I mutter out loud to myself. That was the only way to get out of this. And not ruin the wedding cake.

I plop back down on the couch. Maybe I should begin some test runs. Bake some cakes. Test myself. See where I would go. After all, I invited software for computers. And made millions. So why would baking a cake be so hard?
It should not be that bad. I go into the Vance's kitchen. I begin to search for a cookbook. I wanted to do it from scratch. I find an old Betty Crocker cookbook. Full of ideas for cakes. Even a simple wedding cake to! It was old fashioned. But nice.
I began to search for ingredients. Brenda's mother had all of them. I begin to bake. I make a mess spilling flour all over myself. And the floor. I had enough flour for the cake thankfully still.
I go to place the batter in the cake pan once I mixed it all up. Then I start the oven up. Setting the timers. The oven beeps then I stick my cake in the oven. And I set the time for it to bake. After I am done with that, I begin the prep work for the frosting.
The frosting was not as hard as the cake. Then I added pink food coloring to the frosting. I mix it all up. I help myself to a little taste. It seemed to be pretty good.
Not the greatest in the whole world. But it would do for now. Then I wait for the cake while it bakes. I check my email on my phone. I putter around in the kitchen. Then the oven dings for me.
I grab oven mitts. And put them on my hands. I take the cake out of the oven. I have to wait for the cake to cool to put the frosting on it. It looked smaller than I hoped. Maybe I did not get the recipe right. Great. Oh well. The taste was what mattered the most.
Right?!
As soon as I could I frost the little cake. Then I go upstairs after I take off the dirty apron. I hop in the shower upstairs. And I get dressed in another outfit. I did not want to look like a mess when everyone came back here.

I was in Brenda's room brushing my hair as I look in the mirror. "AARON!" I hear her yelling. "Aaron get down here right now!" she belts out.
She sounded like she was mad at me. I rush right down. The girls were all in the kitchen. Brenda's mother had her mouth wide open as she gawked at the mess I made. I wince. I forgot to clean up the mess. Though I cleaned up myself. I had not meant to make such a mess. It sort of happened.
"Aaron Winters! What the hell happened here?" wonders Brenda.
"Yes, Aaron do tell us" sighs her mother.
"Oh, look he baked a little cake!" coos Melody.
"What a dainty little cake!" says Emily,
I am blushing as they all look over my "little cake" "It was not supposed to be that small" I chuckle.
"Aaron you did not add up the quantity" warns Brenda. "Then the cake would have been bigger"
"Thanks" I sigh. "Why don't you ladies all head to the back deck. I will clean up my mess. And make tea to go with the cake. And we can all try it out?" I offer,
They all agree. Brenda though stays behind with me. "Want me to help?" she offers. She kisses me on the cheek. And hugs me tightly.
I shake my head. "No, I made the mess, I will clean it. I will be right with you all. Go enjoy being with your buddies" I tell her.
• ❤︎ •• ❤︎ •
She smiles then heads out to the back deck. I begin to clean up my mess. Then I start the tea while I do the dishes. As soon as the water whistled on the stove I was done with the dishes.
I even dried them and put them away for Mrs. Vance. I get the tea first. I bring a tray of tea out to the ladies.
And bring the sugar and cream to. Then I rush back to get plates, silverware and cake to. I cut them all a slice of cake when I was on the back deck. I hand Brenda her piece. Everyone tries it at the same time.
• ❤︎ •• ❤︎ •
I wince nervously waiting for someone to make a gagging sound as they tried my little tiny cake. "This is great!" Melody pipes up. Everyone is agreeing with her.
"You really mean that? You are not just saying that?" I ask her.
She nods. "This is so good!" she promises me.
"Aaron it really is" speaks up Brenda's mother.
"Love it" adds Emily
I had not heard from Brenda yet. I glance at her. "What about you?" I ask her.
Her thoughts on my cake were all that mattered.
She smiles "I love it! Who knew my man could bake?" she tells everyone.
I beam happily. "I am glad you like it"
"Aaron, I found the perfect baker in town for us today. And I am going to order our cake" she promises me.
"Whatever ? I do not have to bake the cake?" I stammer.
She laughs as she stands up. "Sweetheart, I was kidding around. I do not expect you to bake an entire wedding cake on your own" she vows. She kisses me. "I am sorry I worried you. I was having fun is all"
"Alright. You owe me one Vance" I tease. She giggles.
"I will huh?" she jokes. She feeds me a bite of my cake. It was pretty good.
"I can't wait to get married" I tell her as she looks me in the eyes.
"I can't wait either Aaron" she vows.
She was soon going to be my wife. Mrs. Aaron Winters. Or Brenda Winters. I loved the sound of that. Brenda Winters. It had a beautiful ring to it. As everything should be. She should have been with me along time ago. Like Emily had said as well. At least we were together now!
