Chapter 9

As we pulled up to the house I had noticed a few things. One, there were a lot of people here, and two most of them were huge men that happen to be shirtless and as hott as the fire of hell itself. I tried unsuccessfully not to stare at the men as Jake helped me out of the car. They all stared at me which made me uncomfortable, but just because I am hurt I am not weak so I found myself meeting their eyes. Most of them looked away once they noticed they had gotten caught starring. Jake sat me in the wheelchair and pushed me into the house. "Who are all those guys?" I asked noticing that no one was inside. "We have made some progress with the search and Derrick and I have called in some help. There is a battle coming and we want to be prepared." We stopped at the stairs and I was surprised when Jake started to pick me up bridal style. "I can carry you the rest of the way, we will find you a room on the first floor tomorrow if you'd like." Jake said as he started up the stairs. "Thank you, for everything." I replied. His touch was like fireworks dancing across my skin and I could swear he was wearing the most intoxicating cologne. I took the opportunity of being close and in his arms to lay my head down on his shoulder and take deep breaths of his scent. Once he opened the door to my room he walked to my bed and placed me down so carefully, like he thought I was made of glass and could break with just one touch. "Okay, get some rest. I will go get you something to eat and your pain meds." He said just before turning around to walk out the door. "Hey Jake." I called him. He stopped and turned halfway towards me. "Thank you.... For everything." I wanted to say more to tell him that what he has done for me is more than anyone has done for me and it means the world to me. I wanted to apologize for how crappy and childish I was acting. But I couldn't form that many words. He smiled and replied " No problem Mar, I would do it all again in a heartbeat and more." He quickly left after that, leaving me in my shocked state. Derrick was right Jake really does care for me. It was only about 30 min later Jake came back with a tray of food for me and a small cup with two little pills in it. He had made some sandwiches and cut up some fruit with a glass of water next to it all. I smiled up at him when he placed the tray on the side table next to my bed. "That looks amazing, where did you learn to cook?" I joked with him even though I was so hungry it really did look amazing. He chuckles and shakes his head before saying, "I learned my awesome sandwich making skills from my momma." We smiled and stared at each other before he cleared his throat and handed me the small cup with the pills. "Take these, one is for pain and the other is to help you heal better." I took the cup from him and downed the pills quickly with a long swallow of water. " Oh yay, magic medicine" I laughed and he laughed with me. I picked up a sandwich and started eating. Jake went to turn to leave when I reached out with my good arm and stopped him. "Where do you think your going?" I asked him in a playful voice. The smile on his face was bright enough to blind anyone. As I ate we had some light conversations about nothing important. It was nice to just sit and talk with him.
