Chapter 5

1003 Words
**Jake's POV** We were headed for my car when the load growl was heard. I quickly turned around ready to fight as I pushed Marlene towards my sister. I mind linked her to get Mar out of here. She instantly did as I said. Once I heard the car doors shut and the car took off I started walking towards the source of the danger. He was a weak and dirty man wearing dirty jeans and a hoodie. "What a surprise we have here." The man spoke in a raspy voice. "Let's get this over with f**k face" I responded. Luck has it that we are in an alley and it's not busy, so there isn't anyone around to witness what is about to go down. The man ran towards me with his teeth bared and fists flying. I was able to dodge his punch and turn to land a kick to the back of his leg. With him on one knee facing away from me, I turn again and land another kick to the side of his head. At this point he is now knocked out. I sigh, "That was easy" I say out loud. I find some old rope in the dumpster that is a few feet further into the alley and tie the guy up before he wakes up. I mind link my brother to have him come pick us up. **Marlene POV** I am still a bit confused as to what is going on. Sarah had just pushed me into the car and we are driving away without Jake. "Sarah! We can't leave him there with that animal! Turn around now!" I yell at her, but she doesn't stop the car. "He will be ok Mar, we just need to get you someplace safe. Everything will be fine." She said in an almost calm tone. "I can take care of myself, I am not a victim and don't need anyone's protection. The only reason I came here is to figure out who is behind these attacks and I have a feeling y'all know more than you're letting on! So stop the car and let me out or fill me in." I raised my voice just a small amount at her but my tone was clipped and angry. I am tired of feeling like I am being left in the dark and treated like some weak little thing. Sarah looks at me briefly before turning her gaze back towards the road. I saw a flash of sadness for only a minute before it turned to anger. " It's not my place to tell you, when we are ALL back home I will make sure Jake fills you in." Even though she sounded angry I didn't get the feeling she was angry at me. From that moment forward it was a silent car ride back to their house, which I am starting to regret saying yes to staying at. After we pulled into their driveway I got out and headed straight for the room I am staying in. I didn't bother getting any of the stuff I had bought earlier out, because if Jake and the rest of them didn't tell me everything that they knew then I plan on making them take me home. I don't care what is waiting for me, I have taken care of myself for so long already so I will not start relying on others now. I don't care how, but I will figure this out with or without their help. As I am packing my bags for the moment anyone tells me that they have nothing to tell me or to explain to me I hear a loud crashing noise outside. I look out my window and see a very angry and disgruntled Jake throwing things around. Sarah is standing near him with her hands crossed with a look of inpatients. I am staring out the window at Jake when I see him stop his destructive path and his shoulders stiffen. He turns towards me and our eyes meet, I see the anger slowly melt from his eyes and is replaced with concern. He closes his eyes and takes a deep breath before starting a track towards the house. **Jake's POV** As soon as Derek and I got home Sarah was sitting on the front steps with angry rolling from her. Derek took our still unconscious prisoner to the cells we have below the house, while I approached our sister. "What's wrong?" I ask her. She shakes her head, "She wants more details, I told her it wasn't my place and that when you and Derek got home you would talk to her. She isn't stupid, she knows there is something 'not normal' going on and she threatened to leave if she doesn't get answers." As soon as she said that Mar wants to leave I lost it. "How am I going to explain all this to her! For her whole life that she can remember she didn't know we existed and now the dangerous parts of our world is out to get her because she just happened to stumble into it" at this point I am throwing our lawn furniture around not caring what I broke. The beast within me wanted to take control and go to Mar and Mark her so she couldn't leave. " I can't lose her again Sarah" I said this as I felt eyes on me. I knew who was looking at me and my back stiffened. How much did she see? I asked myself. I slowly turned towards her and when our eyes met I saw confusion and determination. The anger from me melted away and was replaced with fear and concern. I was scared she would leave me and my concern for her safety was all I had when it came to our relationship. I started towards the door not sure how this will play out, but she wanted the truth and she deserved the truth.
