Grace:
Levi ate his sandwich in record time. I don’t even think he tasted it. He was now looking at his empty plate with a sad look on his face. I had eaten half of mine, but they were pretty big sandwiches and I could never get through a whole one. I handed my uneaten half over to him and he looked at me like I was an angel that descended from heaven. I glanced over at Eli who was looking at his sandwich like it was going to grow a head and bite him. I couldn’t help but blush at the thought of what had happened earlier. While the bread was toasting, and the ham was grilling he had thankfully gone to put on a shirt.
“How is this eatable?” he asked poking the bread with his finger.
“It’s not as good if you let it get cold.” I said waiting for him to take a bite. He picked it up and I nodded expectantly. He stuck his tongue out and made a face before he even took a bite.
“Just try it.” I said sternly, I probably sounded like his mom, “It won’t hurt you.”
“can’t I just put a little bit of Jelly on it?” He pleaded for the fifth time, “or nutella, or yogurt? What about peanut butter?” I crossed my arms over my chest and shook my head.
“If he doesn’t want it, I’ll eat it.” Levi said eyeing Eli’s sandwich.
“No, you won’t.” I said calmly as Eli went to hand Levi the sandwich. Levi’s hand slowly retracted, and he gave me the puppy dog face. I pointedly looked away from him. “Eli Fisher.” I said calmly, Eli flinched, “you will sit here for as long as it takes but you will eat that sandwich.”
He scoffed, “What are you? My mom?”
“Dude your mom cannot cook like this.” Levi said with a grin, “Your sister can, but not your mom!”
“Don’t insult my mother.” Eli said crossing his arms.
“No, your mom is awesome! She just can’t cook anything that isn’t sweet.” Levi said with a wistful look on his face, “I loved your house.” Eli’s phone beeped from his pocket. He pulled it out and looked at it. He sighed and placed it on the table only to pull out another phone. He smiled at the message and got up from the table.
“How many phones does he have?” I asked as He walked to his room dialing a number.
“Like four.” Levi said, “He has the one we’re using to contact each other, one for his family to contact him with, one for work that is actually permanent. And one he uses when he’s working on assignments and wants the calls recorded.” That was a ridicule amount of phones but each one seemed to have a purpose.
“What phone was that?” I asked taking a fork full of potato salad off Eli’s plate and eating it. I wasn’t completely evil.
“I don’t have them memorized; they change faster than your shoes do.” Levi said taking his and my plates into the kitchen, “I don’t know, the boy has an obsession with new phones.”
“His bill must be through the roof.” I said getting up to help Levi do dishes.
“He gets paid pretty well.” Levi said, “We both do, you wouldn’t really know because we don’t need much, we live out of our back packs. Eli puts most of his money in the bank and pays his cell phone bills. That’s about it I guess.”
“Oh.” I said blushing a little as I wiped the George Forman clean with a paper towel.
“Hey guys.” Eli came out, dressed in jeans a blue t-shirt and a leather jacket. How did he manage to look so good when he couldn’t see color? “I’ve got some business to attend to, I’ll be gone for a while so don’t wait up.” he smiled at us and grabbed his phones, jamming them in his pockets, “Call if I’m needed.” He patted his pockets and grabbed one of the keys off the end table.
“What about your sandwich?” I asked pouting a little. He gave me an apologetic smile.
“d**k can have it.” He said walking out the door.
“Wanna see who he’s going out with?’ Levi asked completely ignoring the sandwich.
“wouldn’t he be picking them up?” I asked. I couldn’t believe he would do something like give the name of the hotel we were saying into someone who wasn’t from the agency.
“Nope.” Levi said moving to the window, “He’s avoiding someone, they’ll meet here.”
In a flash I was by Levi’s side looking down at the entrance of the hotel. At first there was nothing. “Maybe they met on the other side of the hotel.” I suggested. Levi shushed me and pointed down. Eli was walking out of the hotel his hands jammed into his pockets. I saw a girl come running up to him from behind. She jumped on his back and Eli spun around trying to look surprised. The girl through her head back and laughed. I tried to make out her features but could only tell she had black hair and was really thin and tall. Finally, she got down from Eli’s back. He pulled her into a hug and kissed her cheek. With that, he threw an arm around her shoulders and walked off. He threw a smug look over his shoulder up at us. I crossed my arms and turned away from the window.
“Oooooh, you’re jealous!” Levi teased shutting the curtain and making his way over to the sandwich.
“I am not!” I whined, “I just thought maybe it was a bad idea to be standing in plain view with people out there who apparently want to do me harm.”
“Ah-huh.” Levi nodded and raised an eyebrow, “Right, okay.”
“I’m serious Levi!” I said sitting down at the table, “If he wants to go out with every b*tch he meets, that’s his business.” With that Levi fell off his chair laughing. I was starting to see why Eli called him d**k.
