Grace:
Stupid, evil, black hearted, arrogant, spiteful, devils spawn! With each adjective I thought of I stabbed my chicken harder. I was pretty sure I had pulverized the Styrofoam plate they had served my food on. It wasn’t that I was mad that she had waltzed up to Eli like she own him, I was mad because she existed. I was mad because I had to breath the same air as her! I was mad that she was at the mall the same time we were. Though she probably followed us here to tell Eli and Levi something. I didn’t care that she was probably helping keep me safe, I hated her, and I wanted her fired… or dead. Dead would be good… then I wouldn’t have to breath the same air anymore. I wouldn’t have to share the same earth either! Maybe we could send her on a mission to the moon, or mars to spy on aliens. Stupid, evil, vial, rotten, disgusting, slut! The more I thought about her the more I hated her. I was really hopping Eli still had his soul by the time we got this shopping trip over with.
“Do you think there is a plate under that anymore?” Izzi asked watching me thoughtfully.
“Nope.” Cammi chirped, “I’m pretty sure she killed it.”
“She’s just mad because a girl was talking to Eli.” Levi said.
“Shut up d**k!” I hissed. I was not mad that she was talking to Eli. That was not why I was mad! He was a big boy who could spend his time with whatever evil soul sucking beings he felt like. I couldn’t care less about Eli, as long as she didn’t kill him. I didn’t want him dead. Could you kill the devil?
“I’m hurt Gracie, I thought you respected me enough to call me by my name.” He said holding his hand to his chest.
“I don’t, you’re just annoying me.” I growled. I hadn’t realized I was capable of so much hatred.
“Who was she anyway?” Cammi asked pushing food around with her fork. I growled again and stabbed a few more pieces of chicken.
“Satan’s mother.” I muttered.
“Does Satan’s mother have a name?” Izzi prompted raising an eyebrow.
“The soul sucking demon.” I muttered again sinking lower in my seat. Her name was like a curse. I wasn’t about to say it, she would appear and eat you or something.
“Yes, but you know, something her friends call her.” Izzi pressed her lips together trying not to laugh at how I was acting. Levi hadn’t said much. Clearly Eli hadn’t wanted the evil skank to meet his sisters or he wouldn’t have forced us out the door so quickly, he would have went out to meet her. Not that I blamed him, I wouldn’t want her to meet anyone I knew. I would keep her in a cage, in an underground cave…. That was secretly a portal into a black hole! Then all of her atoms would be ripped apart and she wouldn’t be my problem.
“Do evil man-eating monsters have friends?” I asked narrowing my eyes at her. Cammi burst out laughing.
“You have it bad.” she giggled. I sent her a glare and she promptly shut up.
“Amber.” Levi said with a hiss. It was good to know that he hated her as much as I did.
“Waite isn’t she the one who….” Izzi trailed off looking at Levi for the rest of the sentence.
“yup.” Levi took a long drink of his smoothie and looked up at the ceiling.
Izzi gasped and Cammi’s eyes went wide with realization, “And you left her with my Brother!” Iz shrieked causing many people to stop talking and turn to watch us.
“Go back to stuffing your faces!” Izzi said waving her hand at the people who were watching us. They turned back to their food and she gave Levi a withering stare, which I’m pretty sure he loved.
“I didn’t want to, but he doesn’t want her to know about you two.” Levi shrugged and continued to stare at the ceiling.
“Why not?” Cammi asked looking around at all of us probably feeling left out the conversation. I had to admit with her being so much younger than the rest of us it was easy to lose her in the conversation.
“She’s bad Cam.” Izzi said, “Remember when Eli came home a few months ago?” Cammi nodded, “Remember how he was hurt, and mom wouldn’t let him out of his bed for a week?” Cammi nodded again, “Well Amber is the reason for that.”
“Waite he was hurt?” I asked suddenly afraid for him. I didn’t want him hurt. I couldn’t deal with a hurt bodyguard. Who would get the plates down then?
“Yeah, shot in the leg.” Levi said, “they were working together, and she took off after she gave him the wrong information. Turns out there was a sniper on the roof behind them. She said everything was all clear for him to take the shot.” Levi’s jaw tensed and he gripped his smoothie very tightly. I felt bad for the smoothie.
“What’s she doing here anyway?” Izzi asked getting just as mad. Note to self, don’t hurt Eli, ever!
“She’s the informant, she’s giving us possible targets to watch out for.” Levi shrugged and made a face.
“That’s why he was asking me to get employ lists of people along with each employ who was in the general area.” Izzi said like everything made sense now. We stared at her in disbelief. Everyone except Cammi that is, who took the moment of everyone’s surprise to steal Levi’s smoothie. I knew Eli had asked for her help but was she really that good that she could track people’s whereabouts. Had she tracked Eli’s? Had she tracked mine? I wasn’t positive but I was sure Eli had a file on me. Did Izzi get that information.
“You… hack?” Levi said his face slowly transformed from disbelief to amazement, “You really are the perfect girl!”
“Please don’t start.” Izzi said, “When we get home tonight, we are looking this chick up. I don’t care if your boss trusts her, I don’t. But we can’t tell Eli.”
“How will we keep it from him?” Cammi asked sucking down the last of Levi’s smoothie, “He’s like all knowing.”
Izzi smiled Evilly at me and blinked, “Grace?” she asked in a really sweet voice that made me suspicious, “Would you distract my big brother? Pleeeeeeeaaaase?” I sighed. At least then I would know that he was distracted.
“I could finish shopping with him, and you guys can take the bus home.” I said thinking, “I can call you when we leave the mall.”
“We’ll say Cammi got sick.” Levi said coming up with a reason.
“No, he’ll want to go take care of her.” I said picturing it now. He would flip.
“Say Izzi has to start getting ready for her game.” Cammi said, “She needs to like run and beat things up.” I gave Izzi a questioning look.
“I’m on the lacrosse team.” she said, “and I don’t beat things up, it’s just a contact sport.”
“You got a concussion last week.” Cammi pointed out. Izzi rolled her eyes.
“That explains the stick with the net on it.” I said thoughtfully remembering her packing it into Eli’s car when I barrowed it to pick them up.
“Anyway, you should go find Eli.” Levi said, “We had better get going, the bus shows up in ten minutes.” we stood up and headed in our different directions. I had no idea where to look for Eli, so I headed back to the Abercrombie store in hopes he was still talking to the spawn.
