Chapter 6

I can’t believe our two weeks vacation is coming to an end tomorrow. Time flew by so fast.  After Jeremy had found me near the lake with Blake, he’s gotten a whole lot more clingy. It was getting so annoying I had a meltdown last night. “Are you freaking kidding me Jerr!? You are not coming with me this time!” I yell out, stomping my foot on the ground. I’m so pissed off at Jeremy! I need some alone time and he won't give it to me. “You are not going there alone. It’s the end of this conversation!” He grumbled. “No! You are not!!! I don’t need you next to me every second of the day! I’m sick of you hovering over me all the time! What do you think will happen to me going swimming in an indoor pool that’s being watched by 3 lifeguards!? You are not my dad, nor are you my mate! You can't tell me what to do!” I scream out, throwing my bag and towel over my shoulder and walking out the door. “I might not be your father or your mate, but I can still watch over you. Even if there are a few lifeguards over there, anything can happen.” He says with frustration. “Get lost and get over yourself, Jerr.” I snap, rolling my eyes. But before I can take more than two steps, he grabs a hold of my elbow. “If I’m not going with you, then you aren't either. Now get back inside.” He says sternly, pointing toward the opened door. “Let go of my arm... now,” I say through gritted teeth. “What's going on here?” Anthony asks, walking up the driveway with a confused expression on his face. “Nothing,” Jeremy says with another frustrated sigh, letting go of my elbow. “Nothing my ass! You won’t leave me the hell alone! Whether you like it or not, I’m going and there’s nothing you can do about it!” I snapped, running as fast as I can to get away from him. “Lana!” I hear him yell out, but at this point, I don’t care and run even faster. When I finally stop running, I’m only a few feet away from the pool. Panting like crazy, I turn around to make sure Jeremy isn’t behind me. Anthony must have stopped him from following me because no one is there. Thank Goddess! Going in, I walk over to the changing room and get put on my swimsuit. It’s a cute flowery one-piece with knots on the open side and open back. My mother hated it when I picked it out at the store. She thought it was too grown-up for me, but with my pleading pout, she gave in and got it for me anyway. Stepping out onto the side of the pool, I sit down and dip the tip of my foot in the water, testing out the temperature. It’s perfect. Getting in, I slowly start swimming. Picking up speed with every stroke, I make it to the other side in no time. Doing this a few more times, I notice my frustration leaving my body. ‘Why has Jeremy been so clingy? I get wanting to look out for me, I do. But he’s going way overboard. Did something happen that we aren't aware of?’ I ask Sacha. ‘I don’t know, but he seems a bit weird. Did you see the looks he’s been giving Blake?’ ‘You noticed it too, uh? I thought it was only my imagination. Guess not.’ I say with a sigh. ‘No, it wasn’t your imagination. What could have happened between them? Blake doesn’t seem like a bad guy. He makes me feel so at ease whenever he’s around.’ ‘I know what you mean. Whenever he shows up, all the stress, all the pent-up tension, it all goes away in a matter of seconds. It’s weird, but I think we have some sort of connection. Like, maybe we could be mates? I don’t know. What do you think?’ ‘It’s definitely a possibility.’ Leaning my head and resting it on the side of the pool, I close my eyes and let my body float in the water. ‘Is the water getting colder?’  ‘I think so, I’m starting to get goosebumps.’ “Lana?” A deep voice calls out. Opening my eyes and standing up in the water, I see Blake walking towards me in a lifeguard's uniform. ‘Damn, look at those muscles in that sleeveless shirt…’ Sacha purrs, making me blush lightly. “Hi, Blake. I didn't know you worked here.” I said, holding myself on the side of the pool.  “Yeah, I volunteer here twice a week. Part of my warrior training.” He says with a smile. “I almost ditched my suits today, but I’m glad I didn’t. I would have missed you coming here. Where’s Jeremy?” He asks, looking around for him. “He’s not here,” I grunted, rolling my eyes with a huge pout. “I sense something happened here. Wanna talk about it?” He asks, sitting next to me on the side, putting both his feet in the water. “He’s just being an ass,” I answer, crossing my arms on the poolside, laying my head on them. “What did he do?”  “He just won’t leave me alone for two seconds and I’m getting tired of it. I just wanted some alone time and swim a little, but would he let me? NNoooooooo!! He tried keeping me inside if he didn’t come with me. He even grabbed my elbow!! He’s never held me like that! And it sucks.” I whine, letting out all of my thoughts carelessly. “Did he hurt you?” Blake asked seriously, his eyes changing colors. For some reason, I feel compelled to touch him. Placing my hand on his forearms, He looks at it, his eyes turning back to their bluish-grey color.  He takes a deep breath and a small smile appears on his lips. “No Blake, he didn’t hurt me. Sorry. I’m just so frustrated, but I think I know why he didn’t want me coming here alone.” I reply with a sad smile. “What do you mean?” He asks with a confused expression. “Does he know you are working here today?”  “Yes, he does.”  Still looking at me confused, he suddenly clues into what I’m thinking. “He didn’t want you alone near me.” He states, laughing bitterly, shaking his head. “Can I ask you something?”  “Go ahead”  “Why is Jeremy trying so hard to keep me away from you? Did something happen between you two?”  “Nothing specific happened. I believe he thinks of you as his precious little sister, and he doesn't want a guy taking you away from him.”  “But he doesn't keep me away from the other guys. So why is he so adamant to keep me away from you?” I ask innocently. “He knows what type of guy I am. And he probably doesn't think I’m the right guy for you.” “But that's not for him to decide. I might still be young, but he has no right to tell me who I’m interested in or not.” I blurt out with a pout. “You're into me now, are you?” He asks teasingly, lifting his eyebrow. “No, I’m not!” I scoffed, turning crimson. “It’s ok if you are, you know. I won't be mad about that.” He says with a condescending smirk. “Shut up!” I reply, splashing him a little. “Did you just…” He says, wiping his face, looking at me with a serious expression that changes into a mischievous one quickly. Shit! What did I just do?! “Oh, now you’re gonna get it!” He blurted out, before grabbing me and plunging the both of us under the water. Coming back up for air, coughing out some water, I can hear him laughing next to me. “Why did you do that!? I only splashed a little bit of water!” I say, still trying to catch my breath. “I did it because I wanted to,” He says, holding me firmly with his very strong hands. I love the feel of his hands on me. Am I wrong to have these feelings towards him? I know he’s a few years older, but is it wrong? That I’m super attracted to him?  “What’s going on in that pretty little head of yours?” He asks, making me look up at him. “Am I weird?” I blurt out, making him chuckle. “Why would you think you’re weird?”  “Is there something wrong with me that I … I find you ...That I think…” Goddess, since when can’t I put a sentence together?! “You’re into me and you think we might be mates, am I right?”  How the hell does he know?! “And now you are wondering how I know this, right?”  What the hell?! “I’m not a mind reader, Lana. I just deducted this from what I have been thinking since you showed up here.” “What!?” I ask, strunt by his revelation. “You’ve been …” “Yes, I’ve been attracted to you too since the first time I saw you at the arcades. But you are still young and it would be wrong for me to do anything about this attraction I have for you.”  “Why?” I ask stupidly. “You are still a child, and I am an adult. Maybe not in attitude, but still. Do you see what I’m talking about?”  “Oh”  “Yeah. But it doesn’t mean I can’t get to know you and be friends with you now, does it?” He asked with a huge smirk. “I guess not.” I chimed with a grin. Making our way back to the side of the pool, he helps me out before settling himself next to me. “When are you going back to your pack?” He asks, looking at me with uneasiness. “Tomorrow,” I answer, my heart tightening at the thought of not being able to see him. “So soon.” He says with a hint of sadness in his voice. “School’s starting soon, and my father has his 3rd in command duties to get back to.”  “It’s funny, when we first got here, I wanted to leave as soon as possible, and now, I don’t even want to leave.” I chuckle bitterly. “Why don’t you want to leave now?” He asks. Seeing his knowing look and crooked smile, I don’t even bother to answer him. “Do you have a cellphone?” He suddenly asks. “I do, why?” “Can I have your phone number? We could call or text each other until the next time you visit your family here. That’s if you want me to.” He suggested with hopefulness in his eyes. How could I say no to him looking at me like that?! “Sure, why not,” I reply with a shy smile. But inside, I’m screaming and dancing like a crazy person. “Well, I think I should get you back to the packhouse before someone blows a fuse and comes searching for you like last time. “Do I have to?” I ask with a pout. “I think you should.”  “Fine,” I whine before getting up and picking up my towel from the resting area. I hope Jeremy won’t be there when we get back to the packhouse. As much as I love my cousin, I’m super mad at him and I don’t want to talk to him. At least not right now. “Ready to go?” Blake asks when I get out of the dressing room with my bag. “Yes, I am”  At least I think I am.
