Daniel
I am relaxing in the pool, lost in my own thoughts, when, all of a sudden, I get splashed by a massive wave in the pool. As I came up for air from under the water, I saw Joe.
"Dude! What the hell was that for?!?" I shouted at him in surprise and annoyance.
"Man, that was hilarious!! You should have seen your face!!!" he says between laughing breaths.
"That's not funny!"
"Hell yeah, it was. So what is the plan for today?"
"We need to talk. And I am sure as hell glad nobody is home." I said with an uneasiness in my voice.
"Well, do you just wanna chill here in the pool and talk? Whatever it is, it cannot be THAT bad, can it?" Joe responded while looking at me with uncertainty in his eyes.
"Bro, it's bad. Like, really, really bad. Like I would not become Alpha and cast out of the pack, type bad." I said with a petrified look on my face.
"What the f**k is going on? What happened?"
"So, you remember when that little orphan ran off into the woods a few days ago? And I had to go after her because of Alpha duty? Well, I don't exactly know how to say this, man."
"Yeah, I remember that day. That's the day your whole demeanor started to change. So, spit it out! What in the f**k happened in the woods, dude?"
"You have to promise me, bro, you aren't gonna say s**t to anybody about this!!" I told him in a pleadingly horrified tone.
"Daniel, dude, you know I got your back. I am not going to tell anybody about this. What is going on? Out with it already."
"Ok, well, when I found her hiding behind a tree crying, my wolf identified her, THE ORPHAN, as our MATE."
"No f***ing way, dude!! Are you serious?? Did you accept her?" he almost cried out in pure horror.
"SCREW THAT!!!!! DO YOU THINK I AM CRAZY OR WHAT????" I shouted.
"You seriously weren't joking! That is undoubtedly bad. What the f**k was the Moon Goddess thinking?"
"I honestly don't know, man. I rejected her, but ever since that day, I have noticed a strange change in her. I don't know what to do. If I confront her, people will start talking. You know that I am always in the eyes of the pack, no matter where I am, except for here at my house."
"But I am not. Even though I am to be your Beta, no one watches me. What if I talk with her?"
"Dude, she knows you report to me."
" But I am her Beta; she has to answer me if I give her my Beta command."
"No, it is too risky. We need to keep this under wraps for now. I need to figure things out and find out what she is up to." I said with finality in my voice.
Winter
As Kendra and I sit in the park under our favorite tree, I feel like I am being watched again. But now I don't have that creepy feeling. As she is talking to me, I casually look around. Everything seems normal. Until I spotted a man I had never seen before getting into a pickup. I wonder if he is a tourist? We get those from time to time. I mean, there are plenty of ordinary people who live here. Maybe he is someone's family member? Either way, he is exceptionally handsome. Unlike anyone I have seen before. That being said, I have never even been outside of this town. His eyes are an agonizingly beautiful blue. It almost seems like he has a hard time looking away from me. My wolf comes to the front of my mind and whimpers.
"What is it, girl? What's wrong?"
"I don't know. There is something about him. I want to know more." she whines.
"Hey! Winter! Earth to Winter!" Kendra snaps me away from my conversation with my wolf.
"Oh, sorry. What were we talking about?" I said in a dazed tone.
"Wow, you completely zoned out on me. What's going through that head of yours?"
"Nothing, my wolf was talking to me. It's not important." I fibbed to her.
I feel like I have to know more about that man. No, I NEED to focus on training. I don't have time for "side adventures". I have got to get stronger and become a better fighter. Granted, I do not even know how to fight. Things definitely have to change. I will not be treated like scum under people's feet anymore.
"So, about a bit about Brandon. He is unequivocally not traditional in his training methods. He can be comparatively harsh sometimes." Kendra starts to explain.
"Oh? How so? Have you trained with him before?" I asked her.
"Only a couple of times. He is not everyone's cup of tea, so to speak. From the couple of training sessions I have had with him, he will push you WAY past your limits. And then some."
"Well, that won't be too hard for him since I have never trained or anything," I say as I start to laugh a bit.
"We will need to get you some proper training clothes though, girl. The baggy clothes you wear won't work. They will only hinder you in training. Let's go shopping!"
"With what money am I supposed to go shopping with, Kendra?"
"I gotcha girl! Don't worry about it," she says with an immense smile on her face.
